Dr. Muniz was the first psychiatry faculty member I met when during application interviews for residency in Gainesville. He was welcoming, interested and gave great advice to an aspiring psychiatrist. This was many years ago, and Dr. Muniz remained a steady, essential presence in the department throughout his professional life. It was always pleasure to see him, at work or about town with his wonderful wife, Sarita. His caring ways continued to enrich my life and I mourn his passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family.

Dr. Carlos Muniz was a man of honor and inspirational to know. He was dedicated to his family, his profession and loved his sports. The Muniz family is a testament to the love he shared with Sarita. He will be greatly missed. Tina Peterson Diaz

Carlos, my mentor, my very special friend. You have been a shining light and role model to generations of students and budding psychiatrists. An enthusiastic teacher and compassionate physician, you kindled the best impulses within all those whose lives you touched. Your smile and your laughter will live in the memories of those who loved you. And remembering even the favorite expletive that often punctuated your enthusiasm will always bring a smile and the gentle image of your face.

I have never known a moment when Carlos Muniz wasn't family. As a child I remember his visitas to our house and the fun and laughter he and Sarita would bring. When I grew up his encouragement and optimism made an incredible difference in my life. He built my confidence every time I spoke with him. He was clever, charming and quirky but most of all he was loved. I will never forget him and I know that part of who I am is because of who he was.

He was like a second father to me. I knew I could always go to him for advice and I often did. He was a wise, loving and caring man whom I admired very much. I will miss him and he will remain forever in my mind and in my heart.
