I only just found out about Als' passing. I'm so sorry to hear it. I enjoyed working with him over the years. He was a wonderful man.

I was sorry to hear about Al's death. The last time I spoke to him, about a year ago, he knew he was not well. I spent 14 years with him in a marriage that had its ups and downs, but was pretty much interesting.

He was one of the best dancers I've every known, had a wicked sense of humor and played a mean game of chess. He loved Tom Lehrer songs and hoarded his "Scientific Americans" as though they were gold bars.

I"m sorry that I did not get to say a final 'good-bye' to him, but am glad he was peaceful at the end

I didn't know you were ill…I wish I did…we haven't spoken for 20 years but I have always thought of you…I am very sad to hear of your passing and will always be grateful for the things I learned from you Al as my step-father for 14 years.

You gave me a love of cuisine and taught me how to cook…something I will always cherish…you also taught me how to play poker and chess…you introduced me to the New York Times…and Jewish and New York culture and food…I had my first bagel and lox with you…and you happily shared the Berlin family with us…you helped me with my math and science homework…you taught me how to use chop sticks and eat sushi and sashimi…you introduced me to Norman Lear and Woody Allen…

I learned how to argue intelligently from you…but this often scared me when I was young but it has been a great skill to have as an adult…you taught me how to drive and gave me an appreciation of foreign cars…you paid for my undergraduate university education and my first wedding…and you walked me down the aisle proudly together with my Palestinian father…and were gracious and generous to him on that day…thank you for always being proud of me.

You weren't always easy to be with but you were one of the smartest people I have know and you were fair and my parent - who often stepped in for me and my brother as much as you could in the absence of my own will always be part of me and in my heart and memories.

Thank you Al for all you had to share and all that I have learned from you…

You are with Joe, Bea and Hasia now…give them my love…and know you were loved as well. Always your step-daughter, Kristin
