He was a dedicated teacher, a compassionate and challenging mentor, a brilliant researcher, and a very close friend. He will be missed by many.

Jimmie was a rare combination of scholar, gentleman, and humorist, making him a very likable and approachable person. He always had an open door and loved teaching. He was committed to construction safety as his life's work, perfectly understandable for someone whose thoughts are always of others. He will be missed but never forgotten.

To Hinze family and friends,

While I was not a direct student of Dr. Hinze, I was graciously given a spot in his office to work on my PhD.

Even as he was battling cancer,he was always a kind and considerate gentleman.

He excelled in his profession and his life as a man.

Dr. Hinze was a tremendous researcher, educator, mentor, and leader at the University of Florida. I had the privilege of working with Jimmie as a student, researcher, and administrator at the College of Design, Construction & Planning since 1998. A remarkably kind man, he always looked for the best qualities in people. I believed that his concern for the wellbeing of other people was clearly demonstrated in an applied way through his lifelong commitment to improving working conditions. Dr. Hinze had the uncanny ability to derive positive outcomes even during difficult times. This made him a joy to work with and a professor that touched students in ways that extended beyond the classroom. I will miss his delightful view on life, his analytical insights and his compassion for others.

Maxine, we are very saddened to read of Jimmy' s passing. Please know that you and " the boys" are in our thoughts and prayers. I will always remember Jacob and Justin as "the Boys" from our many visits. With love and hugs, Butch and Jean Anderson
