Dear Jenny, The Freeman Family, and everyone who loved Richard,

I am sure you are reeling from the loss of such a wonderful and kind person. I was so lucky to have been friends with Richard when we were students at SIU. He was often the voice of kindness and gentle reasonability. He was smart, sweet, awkward, and wonderful. The world was fuller with him in it.

Much love and strength to all of you,

Tori

Richard was in the club of the Righteous people that are rare in this world. A man of peace, kindness and modesty. I knew him through all his various academic stages and jobs, and grew to respect him for the rare individual he was. What a mind, a heart, a photographic eye - Richard was so very special. We are all so very fortunate to have known him. What a blessing to his family to have someone like Richard in their lives. I hope you can find his heart in his photography and in memories of his shining soul. I wish you peace and comfort.
