I just saw this today. I am so very saddened to know about Coach Stewart's passing and very disappointed that I missed the service. My deepest condolences to Connie and their children. I ran track and Cross Country under Coach Stewart's mentorship at P.K. Yonge from 1967 to 1971, after earlier watching him coach my brother Jamie to winning a state championship in the 880 yard run. PKY was (and is) a family, and we all looked up to Coach Stewart. He knew how to be an effective leader without ever being harsh or unfair. I'll never feel that I fulfilled my end of the bargain, so to speak, never having reached my potential as a runner, but I learned a great deal about life from Coach Stewart and will never forget the inspiring teacher/student, coach/athlete relationship we had. Thanks, Coach.

Sorry to hear of his death, but more grateful for his life. A good guy, and a coach who could get the best out of his athletes quietly and calmly.

I just saw this when I was looking for a different obituary. I'm so sad for you, Connie! I'm glad Doug and I stopped to see you and Kirby when we were in Gainesville this summer. I'm incredibly sorry for your loss and I pray that God can cover your loneliness a little bit. I'm sad for Chip and Jennifer, too. It's very hard to lose your dad! Love, Kathleen

A beautiful memorial, presented by a beautiful family for a beautiful person. May your family be wrapped in God's warmth and love until you are all together again in God's promise land. Coach Kirby will surely be missed by this Taylor family and we will always fondly remember our meetings at The Clock. PHS class of '64.
