I am deeply saddened by this news. I did not know of Garnets passing until today, while looking through those who have given all for our freedom on this Memorial Day weekend 2013. I first met 2LT Derby in 1990 when he and I led the 2nd platoon of B Company 1-46 Armor in Scwheinfurt, Germany. He was the best and also the last platoon leader I had the pleasure of serving with. I still have the wine bottles and mug you gave my wife and I on our departure. The bottles are still unopened. Brenda, may you and your children know that your husband and their father was a great man and will be remembered by my family and I as one of the finest people we have had the pleasure of meeting in this life. Thank you so much for the kindness you have shown us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
