My deepest sympathy for Dr Rommels family. He was an amazing person. I was never able to meet him but I was blessed to get to study his life and career. I was able to visit your wonderful city more than once and to see the results of his work. His political example, his work to rebuild a better city and country profoundly influenced my own politics and life. He inspired me to teach and to support politics which improve my own nation. I was blessed with getting to know of him. God bless you all!

I wish to extend my sincere sympathies to the family of Manfred Rommel. I had the good fortune of meeting Mayor Rommel and his wife when they visited St. Louis in 1978. I was a detective with the St. Louis Police and I was assigned to escort Mayor Rommel & his wife as they visited various St. Louis dignitaries. The day started out at the Busch mansion at Grant's Farm and ended with a voyage on the Mississippi River on Harry Pope's yacht. In between I was able to have lunch with the Rommel's at the St. Louis Art Museum. What struck me at the time was how kind both of them were and how freely Mayor Rommel spoke of his father and of his days during WWII. He spoke of great hope for the future of Germany and Europe in general. While I have been fortunate to have met many "famous" people over the years, my day with Manfred Rommel & his wife was one of my fondest. May he rest in peace. He certainly made the world a better place.

My sincerest condolences to the Rommel family for your loss. The World has lost a truly great representative of the German people, a man worthy of respect. I have the greatest admiration for him and his achievements. Best wishes to you all from here in Australia.
