Today, we laid you to rest, Dad, at the place you loved, and with the traditions you upheld all of your life. We honor you Dad, for us you defined courage and perseverance and dignity. You were never braver than when you faced this final challenge.
We loved you in life, and your children will remind our own children and grandchildren why you deserved every bit of that love and respect.
Today, at your memorial service, the Chaplain summed you up, Dad, with a phrase you would recognize. She said you had true grit. How perfect, I thought. How rare that is, today, and how abundant in that Greatest Generation.
Thank you, Dad, for everything.
