To Bob's family, please accept my deepest condolences upon the passing of a wonderful person and a true original. Bob and I were classmates at HC and BC law, and we shared many conversations and "debates". Even at a young age, Bob's intellect and curiosity were inspiring. I never understood how he found the time to be an outstanding student, to constantly be reading novels, histories and biographies, to engage in "cafeteria debates", and do his job for Professor Carroll. But he managed his time well, worked earnestly, and had a brilliant mind.
While at HC Bob went on a February retreat at the nearby Trappist Monastery. While walking through the woods, he was inspired by a Robert Frost poem, and swung out over a stream while holding onto a birch tree... and fell into the stream to much laughter. In the summer of 1969, he had returned to Boston from his basic training with the Marines. After a night spent carousing with friends, Bob proceeded to show us a newfound skill... he climbed to the top of a flag pole, whereupon the flag pole teetered and descended to the ground, with Bob attached... again, to great laughter.
He was such a wonderful, unique guy, and will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to be his friend.

Bobby and I grew up together, next door to each other on Otis St. We would meet again, over the years, always able to pick up where we had left off. Bobby was that rare person who was always willing to step in where he was needed, and would then do well, and do good, in that position. My condolences to MaryEllen, Susan, and other family members.

I remember the tall skinny kid with more energy than Tigger and a wider smile than the Cheshire cat. A bright light has been extinguished.
Sincerest condolences.

Seems only yesterday Bob, I as a young TV reporter sat in your office, the mayors office, talking the news of the day and Alice would bring our coffee. You certainly inspired me and many others, rest in peace.

We are so sorry to hear of Bobby's death. His friendship was one of the highlights of my childhood. I watched him with delight as he conquered all comers on As Schools Match Wits. And then he went on to even bigger and better things. He always remained a friend and showed great devotion to my Mom, Lillian McDowell. Bobby will be greatly missed by all who knew him or knew of him. May he rest in peace.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Robert's passing. We were in several classes together at Chicopee High and I remember him as a most friendly and ambitious person. His lifetime achievements are an inspiration to us all and should serve as a role model to future generations. God Rest His Soul! Peter Szatkowski
