Stephen Golas Obituary

SOUTHAMPTON - Stephen J. Golas, 86, of Southampton, died Feb. 7, 2013, in Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Stephen was born May 8, 1926, in Easthampton, the son of Frank and Francesca Golas.

Stephen attended Sacred Heart School and later graduated from Easthampton High School. Stephen graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1952 with a degree in civil engineering.

He was employed by the Massachusetts Highway Department, retiring in the 1990's. Stephen was a World War II Army veteran serving in Italy. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Westfield. He also was a member of the American Legion and was active as a flag bearer in the Southampton Memorial Day parades.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret (Leeming) Golas, whom he married on June 7, 1952; one son Chris Golas of Southbridge; and a sister Mary Sepko of Amherst.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 9:30 a.m. in the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Easthampton, followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Westfield. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Easthampton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Stephen's memory may be made to Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, 127 Holyoke Road, Westfield, MA 01085 or the VNA/ Hospice of Northampton, 168 Industrial Drive, Suite 1, Northampton, MA 01060.
