Alfred Daniel Munson Jr., M.D.

Alfred Daniel Munson Jr., M.D., passed away peacefully on September 6 at home in Long Beach with his daughter Priscilla, son Bill and beloved dogs at his side. He was 91.
Born at home on April 17, 1923 in Huntington Park, CA, to a musician father and homemaker mother, Al was the eldest of two siblings; his brother Don predeceased him by 50 years. Always the brightest kid, Al skipped several grades in his dual hometowns of Huntington Park and San Francisco, graduating high school at barely 16, and the USC School of Medicine at 24. As Army Captain & Medical Doctor, Al was stationed in Japan for 2 years immediately following WWII to fulfill his military obligation. Married to the love of his life for 63 years, Dorothy, who predeceased him in 2008, Al enjoyed a private psychiatric medical practice in the Downey-Lynwood-Long Beach areas for over 50 years; raising a family; weekends in Laguna at their beach house; travelling abroad; and contributing to local civic and cultural associations.
As a treasured soul, Al will be remembered as a gentle, humorous, generous, steadfast intellect and healer who rose from humble beginnings to affluence and influence, and who loved books, cars, music, the ocean, his family, his friends, his patients, and the life-long pursuit of enlightenment through metaphysics long before it was coined "the new age." Private services will be held. Friends may make donations to the literary, musical or medical philanthropy of their choice.
