I didn't have the honor to meet Ryan but heard through our family what an amazing person he was....God Bless him and those who loved him....
Ann Freel Ball
I enjoyed watching Ryan Freel's all out play so much that when I purchased a Red's jersey I chose his name for the back. I could've done like so many others at that time and had Griffey on the back but I wanted Freel. He demonstrated how to not only play the game of baseball but how to live life. Give 110% or go home. I coach little league baseball and have passed that on to them. Thanks for the lesson Ryan.
the Bemis family enjoyed the career of Ryan Freel Rest in peace brother
only now heard of Ryan;s death and am so sorry for the family's loss. I enjoyed his playing for the Reds. May God be with all of the family as they are at a loss yet over his untimely death
I am adding this message long after Ryan's passing in order to express my condolences to his family and in the hope what I write will be forward ed to them. My small collection of Ryan memorabilia consists of a nice salection of cards from Ryan's early career AND the Reds wind shirt Ryan wore when he played in Cincinnati. If Ryan's family would like to have these items free I would be glad to ship them to Florida directly to the family or in care of the funeral home. kkfoster@Columbus.rr.com
Ryan Freel was my favorite Reds player of all time
Thinking about you tonight. Thank you for being such a great friend to Chris.
I only got to know him for a short time, my thoughts and prayers are with Chris and the girls, for who I know he had a deep love. I will miss you my friend.
Norma, Clark and Family,
Our thoughts and prayers go out to you at this difficult time. May God bless you and comfort you in your sorrow.
I will miss those kind, haunting blue eyes that always held a mischievous little twinkle. Ryan loved baseball with an over the top compassion that was second only to his lovely three daughters. His zest for life and love for his family, especially, his mother, was profound and contagious to be associated with. Ryan always made everyone feel comfortable and accepted to be around. Ryan was amusing and more often than not made me laugh. He was never too busy to help others, even visiting my father in the hospital signing a bat for him and many autographs for the doctors and nurses who attended him. During our "Real Men Read" project, Ryan came to our school and read to our students instilling in them not only the importance of reading, but also of being disciplined and always doing their absolute best. Even though the immense hurt Ryan's early departure has left us all with, he has also left us with many memories of amazing plays, amusing anecdotes and what an absolutely loving and devoted father and giving individual he was. May God provide strength and comfort to his family.
My deepest sympathy to the family of Ryan. Loss of a child is always a tragedy and difficult to understand and accept. I was a classmate (1962) of his father Pat and also lost one of my sons this past year. I could tell that Ryan's family was proud of his accomplishments through Pat's postings on classmates. Ryan and his family will be in my prayers throughout these difficult times.
My love, thoughts and prayers are with Ryan and his family. God bless you all.
We are sending our love, prayers and condolences to all his family and friends. This is Such a tragic loss.
I would like to wish the Freel Family our Prayers and Condolences. Pat Freel was a resident of ours and would visit the rental office, and we saw how proud he was of his sons and what a lucky father he was. We felt that the boys would play sports and enjoy them as much as their father did. This occurred back in the 1981 era. I know that the family feels as if their hearts will never heal from Ryan's sudden death. I pray that time will help the healing process, but I also believe that when we lose someone, we hold on to a special place in our hearts that we always held them in and will always keep for them. Over time you will find that memories of Ryan, will make you smile and cry. But Ryan will not be forgotten due to them. May God Bless your family, and help you through this difficult time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our son loved watching Ryan play and he was thrilled to have finally met him last year. Ryan will always be remembered and truly missed.
One of my all-time favorite Reds...he played the game the way it should be played. My condolences to his family on their loss.
Ms. Norma, Mr. Pat, Patrick and the Freel family. I haven't seen any of you in years but my dad, Ralph, always would talk about your family when he had info or talked to Mr. Pat. He would tell me about Patrick and Ryan and how well Ryan was doing in baseball. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
I am from Ohio and went to see the Reds with my children and grand children. The question was always the same. Is Freel playing tonight. We did love Freel's dirty shirt night. My oldest grandson wants to play ball as well as Ryan. My heart is broken.
Ryan was so exciting to watch play the game of baseball. I loved his hustle. There was no ball that couldn't be caught in his mind, no base that couldn't be stolen!!! You were one of my all time favorites Ryan. May God grant your family peace.
My heart goes out to you all
I pray Gods Peace and Comfort over each of you during this time of broken hearts . He was very loved and admired by so many and how proud that has to make you and comfort you
Ryan, you touched many lives and will always be remembered, and deeply missed. I'll never forget your generosity to my son Peter, who shares your birthday. So sorry I couldn't attend the services but I'll keep my promise and make sure your family has the photos I'd taken. Rest in peace, my friend. Blessings and strength to Christie and your family.
I will miss Ryan so much. He was like another family member to me for the past 20 years. His passing is so tragic for so many. I love him dearly & look forward to the day I get to spend eternity with him in heaven.

Norma, Pat and Freel family...I'm so sorry to hear of Ryan's passing. May you find peace and comfort in the days ahead. Sharon and I are saddened to hear of your loss. Our hearts are with you and your family.
Today a little piece of my heart was laid to rest. Ryan you had my heart from the first time I met you. We have laughed, cried, joked, smiled and had good times and bad times together. I would never go back and change any of it. You taught me how to live my life for today and not look back at yesterday, to have hope for tomorrow and to NEVER SAY NEVER!. I am truly blessed to have had you in my life. You were an amzing friend that will remain near and dear to my heart. Thank you for the amazing memories you hve given me. I will cherish them forever. One of my fondest memories is when the you and the girls came to visit me at work and we played dress up and played like we were manneuines in the window. We had the best time acting like we were little kids just like the girls. My heart goes out to your mom, Clark and the girls. You were such an amazing father and your eyes just lit up any time you were with them. I am truly blessed to have been introduced to them and have such an amazing friendship with your mom now as a result. Thank you for that. You will never be forgotten Ryan Freel. I look forward to the day that we will all see you again in Heaven. You will always have a special place in my heart!

I remember your first day as a Red, I heckled ya, saying "Freel Dawg, who the heck are you!" You shrugged it off. For the past two years I've worn your number on my back in my after work league, reminding me to try hard. Freel Dawg, thanks for teaching me to hustle. RIP
I have a very heavy heart after attending the visitation for Ryan this evening. Ryan touched so many lives and meant so much to my family, "The Sams". My fondest memory of Ryan is leaving the keys to my car in my locker during school hours so him and my cousin, Kevin could take my car off campus. :) My heart breaks for his three beautiful girls which I had the honor to meet this evening. Rest in peace my friend. You will truly be missed.
Ryan was a genuinely caring person and he had such a great connection with his players; he really loved "his boys."

About 10 years ago, my grandfather watched Ryan play at a Syracuse Chief's game. Ryan fouled off a pitch and it ended up hitting my grandfather as he sat in the stands, completely unaware he was right in the path of the baseball. He was dazed, but was just fine. Someone brought the ball to my grandpa as a souvenir. After the game, Ryan approached my grandfather after hearing his foul ball had hit him, checked to make sure he was ok, and signed the ball with a personalized message. That ball still sits on the dresser of my grandfather's room, and is one of the few things that hasn't disappeared over the years. I just want to express my sympathies for the Freel family, and express a thank you to Ryan, for being a stand up guy that day.
To the family of Ryan Freel - May God give you peace and comfort through his word and the Lord Jesus Christ during this time of sorrow, I know that he will be missed by many.
