Sorry to hear about passing of Dr. Shumway, condolences to the family. I am one of those Drs that loved to go fishing with him and chat in the hospital. He was a very fine and respected physician. James Veen D.O.

We were some of his first patients in Middleville when the office was downstairs on Main Street. He was the last doctor we had that made housecalls. His kindness and patience will never be forgotten. He was one of the best people.

Doug was a special Brother, always there for support, encouragement, family, and, also, for fun. Winnie remembers Doug as the most kind and caring person she ever met and, the most fun! She remembers our trips with him, Christine and the family, to the flea market in Copemish and camping with the family in the trailer in the Manistee forest. Doug was generous and caring. He accepted and supported our loving relationship. He called Mom regularly and alerted us when she did not answer...helping to save her life. When he began to slip away we missed him and now we miss him so much more.

All our love and support to Christine, Julie & Christopher, Lee & Lydia, and Stacy & Frank and their families.

Sandra and Winnie

Christine, Julie, and Stacy,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Doug was a great colleague, and physician.
