Wow!! What can I say! I only have fond memories of Uncle Whitey. I remember the first time I met him. He came to pick up Aunt Mil at our house on Alexander Street. That was the beginning of their dating days. He passed our approval.
Then came the beautiful wedding at Central Reformed Church. I think this is the first wedding that I ever went to. I was proud to be able to call him my uncle.
A few years later Mike and Mary came along. I was called to their house to babysit the rest of the kids when each of the kids were born. How exciting was that!! However, I also remember the sadness when Jacquelyn did not come home with them in their arms. Now Uncle Whitey is holding her in his arms. What a blessing.
Uncle Whitey and Aunt Mil would always visit my dad, Jim, on Tuesday afternoons when Dad was living in the Holland Home suffering from Parkinson's and dementia. We would have cookies and coffee together. We NEVER lacked for conversion when Uncle Whitey was there:)
The last time I talked with Uncle Whitey, I was at Mike and Lindsay's wedding. He sat with Judy and me during the reception. We had an enjoyable time together. Here again, we were not lacking for conversation! (ha,ha)
To the family, my sympathies. He will be greatly missed. I love you, Uncle Whitey.
Millie and Family,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Whitey was an amazing man and great 1st friend for my son, Ethan. I will always have fond memories of watching them pick up sticks in the yard together or watering the tomatoes. Prayers for your healing.
Express my sympathy to you.
Your old HS buddy,
Prayers continue for the family and spending time reflecting on great memories. I smile as I think about church softball at the rec. center with the Dekker family!
