My late wife and I were blessed to have Karen as our neighbor for more than ten years. I knew she had done many significant things in her life, but I had no idea how many localities she had graced, or how many causes she had enriched with her energy, creativity, and love. I do know that whenever you had a conversation with her, you felt as if you were the only “cause” on her mind. You always had her full attention: If you had a problem, you could feel her focusing all her personal resources on helping you; if you were just telling her a dog story, her face would light up like a super nova, or when sharing a good joke, her whole body radiated her delight, and her infectious laughter made you feel like the most brilliant comic in the world. All people are unique, and I believe she conveyed that to everyone she encountered. But Karen was not only unique, she was outstanding on more levels than most of us could even dream of inhabiting. Rest in peace, Karen.
