Three months have gone by since Karen's death, and I just found out through a dear friend. If this is not a reminder that I am not en-tuned with life around me that what is?
I met Karen when I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2005. Karen shared her wisdom, her fears, her strengths, and her knowledge of alternative as well as conventional treatments. She was a true support and inspiration that no matter what road I took with my cancer that it would be my decision and it would be the "right" road. What a beautiful, all-giving woman. Karen always cautioned me that "...never a cancer survivor...how do you know until the end, Hedda? Always a cancer fighter. Always a cancer fighter." Tonight I will raise my glass of wine to your Karen. My heart cries tonight - cancer has taken one more beautiful, loving, all-giving remarkable person. Condolences to those very close to Karen - touched by her in life. Many will miss her for years to come. Myself included.
