My earliest memorys of Ken was up at the Winter Games of Special Olympics where he is known and loved by thousands of athletes as the Starter for the Snowshoe Competition. Every heat he would make his way from lane to lane greeting and encouraging each athlete, impartially cheering each and every one on. As a member of the Medical Staff I have attended to many a athlete at that event, and while the Athlete might not have known me or been able to answer my questions, when Ken popped over and asked the athlete how they were, the answer was always something like, "I'm ready to do this again Ken" or "Ken I want to race". The same smile I see here on the picture is the same smile I witnessed over and over again regardless if it was 90+ Degrees at CMU during Summer Games, or bundled up in -5 Windchills up in Traverse City. Thousands of Athletes, Volunteers, and Coaches of Special Olympics Michigan have been touched by Ken's life and spirit... I know I will never be able to forget those memory's. Rest in Peace my friend, there are new races to start waiting for you!
