I appreciated his ready helpfulness at the library and enjoyed our early morning conversations before the library opened, especially remembering those about hiking and camping in our favorite areas of the U.P. and elsewhere. I knew about his interest and talent in musical arts, but didn't know about his other art! My sympathy goes out to his family.

Mike and I go back to the 70's. I still have a drawer with many of his early drawings. He was a kindred spirit, musician, artist, and the type of person the world needs more of. We had several musical experiences together and would talk for hours about music, humanity, God, and the condition of the world. I was hoping to play live with him at a summer event as we were appreciative of each others creative directions. He is one of the very few I had any desire to do this with. Already, he is sorely missed.
Mike had written a song years ago with a memorable line: "History in a dresser drawer, in pouches paper and ink, someday someone will find it there, and know the man could think."
Adios, amigo. See you sometime soon.

Kind, understanding, hard-working, patient, funny and honest... these are the words that describe Mike. We worked together at Grand Rapids Public Library and we shared a love of music when he played guitar to my vocals. I'll always hold the precious memories of our friendship close to my heart. The world was certainly a better place with him in it. Until we meet again.... Bon Voyage my friend!
