Cindy,I'm so sorry to hear about Steve! I just heard the news tonight from Harold's nephew who worked with Steve and was talking about him and I just couldn't believe it was your steve he was talking about. Harold's nephew was so surprised that I knew Steve. Gun Lake was a time of wonderful memories for our families! We look back on that time with such joy and fondness. We laugh often over something we remember from that special place and our neighbors there made it that way. DeKruyters were a very generous and special family and we loved them. We are just so sad for your loss!!!Harold and PATTI Verwys Ploeg

Cindy, Ben and Todd,
Rick and I are so sorry to hear about Steve. We were not able to attend the funeral because we were out of town.
May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

The unexpected passing of my sister's husband, and father to my nephews Ben and Todd, seems incomprehensible. I cannot find any words to describe the heavy grief that I feel or imagine how his family feels. This is such a tremendous loss. Steve was an outstanding father and a very wonderful brother-in-law. He was a moral, honest man who was also the even-keeled, calm, voice of reason, regardless of the situation, which was just one of his many qualities. My heart is torn for my nephews Ben and Todd who have lost such a devoted and loving father. Steves nurturing, guidance, and compassion now reflected in both of them as amazing adults. I will always be grateful for Steve giving my family countless happy memories. They invited us to a house on Lake Michigan during the summer. We would watch the time each evening and then gather at the beach to toast another sunset. He made many caravans to New York (did I mention patient?) with us to see the Stewart family, which always included long talks over the dinner table each night. Steve and Bill Stewart (Cindys dad) were the intellects of the group, and my dad very much enjoyed being in Steves company talking about literally anything and everything and watching college football. The Stewart family was so fortunate to count him as one of our own. To my dear sister Cindy, I know this loss is unfathomable and beyond heart breaking. There are no words to say or things I can do that will ease your pain, and for that I am so deeply sorry. Steve was one of the best, and I am grateful you had him as yours. All my love and sympathy.

I just heard of Steve's passing, it's saddens me so. Steve was my first boss with xpedx, and a super one at that! I really enjoyed working closely with him. He always was so understanding, and always held a smile.

May you always hold the sweet memories close to your heart. I will never forget such a great man.

Love and sympathy to you and your family.
