Delores Elaine Strandberg
Helena —Delores Elaine Strandberg, 79, of Helena, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.
Mom was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc., on August 12, 1934, to Alfred and Verna (Dormandy) Schmolke. Mom spent her early years in Wisconsin until the family moved to Montana. Upon graduating from Conrad High, Mom attended nursing school in Los Angeles, California. After completing her schooling, she returned to Conrad. Mom knew she was back home when she could smell the sagebrush. While working in Conrad she met her future husband, Fred.
Delores and Fred L. Strandberg were married August 26, 1952 in Bozeman, Montana. They settled in Helena where they raised their six children. Mom was a dedicated homemaker and bookkeeper for Dad's Construction Company.
Mom loved to read, go bowling, taking Sunday rides with Dad, cake decorating and spending time with her family. She was involved with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Jobs Daughters. Delores enjoyed following her children's academic and sports activities. While wintering in Arizona, Mom took up painting and learned to play bridge and pinochle.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred, her parents, and her sisters, Margaret Joyce and Della Mae. She is survived by her children, Robin (Joe) Britt, Jean (Gary) Schiller, David (Tammy) Strandberg, Janet, Beth and Bruce Strandberg; grandchildren, Tyler Schiller (Brittany Herzog), Nichole (Laine) Erickson, Ashley, Kylie and David Jordan Strandberg, Andrew and Ethan Britt, Joel (Berenice) McNees, and great- grandchildren, Aryana and Tryp Schiller, Karyhana Britt, Karlee and Myah Erickson and Jordyn Tryna McNees.
Mom is also survived by her sister Donna Mae (John) Lay and brother Donald (Geri) Schmolke and sister-in-laws Sylvia Connick, and Trudi Martin.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
