Visitation is 2-5 p.m. Thursday at Creel Funeral Home in Lewistown. Graveside services are 2 p.m. Friday in the Mayn Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs. Creel Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Survivors include her son, Howard E. "Tom" (Katherine) Spraggins of Lewistown; grandchildren Tyler Tox Spraggins of Lewistown and Kallie Rose Spraggins of Bozeman; a nephew, Jim (Kayna) Popnoe of Bulverde, Texas; and a niece, Sue Tiffin of Missoula.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ivan James "Tox" Popnoe; her mother, Ella Lohse Popnoe; her husband, Evert "Chev" O. Spraggins; a daughter, Shirley Marie Spraggins; and brother Dr. Howard (Helen) Popnoe.
Rose was born Aug. 19, 1918, at the Lohse Ranch north of Winifred and was educated in Winifred, where she graduated as valedictorian from Winifred High School. She attended the College of Great Falls and the University of Montana, receiving her business teaching degree. She was proud that she was able to work and use scholarships to pay for all her education.
In November 1945, Rose married Evert "Chev" O. Spraggins of Denton, and they were married for 53 years. Rose began her teaching career at the PN School north of Winifred, staying with her grandparents at the Lohse Ranch. Her second teaching job was at the Flax School west of Winifred. She taught at Denton and Frenchtown, before settling at White Sulphur Springs, where she taught for 38 years. She was very close to her Father Tox and loved spending times at the family ranch northwest of Winifred. After retirement, Rose and Chev spent their winters in Arizona and summers at their home north of White Sulphur Springs. After Chev's death, she moved to Lewistown and lived at the Eagles Manor to be close to her son. She was also very proud of her grandchildren: Tyler attended college and has his own business and Kallie graduated from college with a business marketing degree. A good education was very important to Rose. She loved teaching bookkeeping, typing, shorthand and being the senior class sponsor. She was very proud of the achievements her students obtained. Rose loved to travel and especially to plan her trips to the Oregon coast. She loved her poodle, Midgy, as her constant companion in her last years of life.

Tom,
I am certain I was one of the poorest typing students your mother ever had but it not of lack of trying on her part. My father also had your mother for a teacher when she first started teaching and I am certain he gave her a hard time. She was a wonderful teacher and a very fine person.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
