Maurita Gleffe Obituary

Maurita "Mootz" (Heimerl) Gleffe

Green Bay - Maurita "Mootz" (Heimerl) Gleffe passed away peacefully at home (which she affectionately referred to as her little cottage) in the presence of her loving family on Saturday, January 13, 2018. The youngest of five children, she was born on February 21, 1934, in Green Bay to the late John Matthew and Cecelia Catherine (McVey) Heimerl. On May 1, 1953, she married Merlin Gleffe who preceded her in death in 1991.

Maurita graduated from Green Bay East High School with the class of 1952. She was instrumental in planning their 50th class reunion, a project she thoroughly enjoyed. Maurita had a strong work ethic and took pleasure in helping everyone she met through her employment and community involvement. She was employed as a switchboard operator at the telephone company, as a CNA at Bellin Hospital, was the front desk receptionist at the Valley Motel and retired in 1994 as a Clerk Receptionist from HSHS St. Vincent Hospital. She often said that retiring to take care of her grandchildren was the best thing she ever did. Throughout the years, she was involved in her daughters' activities, volunteering with the school PTA, as well as serving as a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She enjoyed many trips and cruises with her family and dear high school friends, jigsaw and word puzzles, fishing, a good Bloody Mary, family gatherings, board and card games, the Packers and the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx. A loving and generous Nana, she delighted in attending her grandchildren's various activities (except Will's rugby games for fear of seeing him get hurt), and excursions to their college towns for concerts and graduations. She enjoyed fishing with Michael when he was little, she instilled the love of tennis in Morgan, she was elated to attend the wedding of Marissa and Nathan this past October, she relished a competitive game of Canasta with Kim (where the money in the swear jar multiplied with every game), and could spend hours with Will engrossed in conversation.

Maurita is survived by her daughters and their families: Melintha Faltynski, her son Michael, Green Bay; Heidi Bos, De Pere; Coe Gleffe, Green Bay and her daughter Kimberly Maurita, St. Louis Park, MN; Amy (Gerald) Wallace and her daughter Marissa (Nathan) Heim, Green Bay; Alecia (Joseph) Kobylarczyk, Sobieski, and their children Morgan, Scottsdale, AZ, and William, Sobieski; stepsister Sandy (Van Lieshout) Capriotti, Racine; her treasured friends Joan Arves and Joan Vickman, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Maurita was preceded in death by her parents, John Heimerl and Cecelia Heimerl Van Lieshout, her stepfather Herman Van Lieshout, a son-in-law, Kenneth Bos; and siblings and their spouses, Robert and Marie Heimerl, Elaine and Merlin Younk, Eunice and Joseph Kazik, Mary Helen and James Schneider.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. There will be a Funeral Service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Deacon Paul Umentum officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. To send online condolences visit www.prokowall.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Maurita's name.

The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Pritchard and his staff for their attentive and compassionate care, HSHS St. Vincent Hospital ER, IMCU, Pastoral Care, 7th and 9th floor staff and everyone else who had the opportunity to care for Maurita and her family; your kind, compassionate, joyful care was evident in everything you did for us.

Our sympathy and prayers for the repose of the soul of Maurita..

My sister, Glendoris (Gussert) Barbera and I, Carol (Gussert) Ertl are first cousins of Maurita. Our mother, Estelle (McVey) Gussert and her mother, Ceil, were sisters. We lived in Milwaukee, but often visited Maurita's sister Elaine in Green Bay, on our yearly visits 'up north.'

I will always remember working on puzzles with her for hours at a time. Even if she was tired or not feeling good, our phone conversations were never less than 60 minutes!! I will cherish my fond memories forever......
