Sherry - I just learned of Lee's home going. I have such fond memories of Lee, he was so very kind to me in so many ways. I look forward to spending eternity with him. I pray you feel the tangible comfort of the Lord during this time.

I worked with Lee at IBM for about 11 years. He was certainly a class act.

Jr/Sr Prom,1960,I gave my boyfriend's ring back, which left me with a new dress but no date! My mother was not happy. But there was a new senior boy in the halls of BHS. He was tall, handsome and had a smile that could melt ice cream in the Arctic! He'd make the perfect date.
Word got around quickly that I'd like him to ask me to prom. I was on "pins and needles" wondering if I would get to go to prom. To my disbelief, the call came. Lee asked me to prom! It was awkward, to have prom night as a first date, however, I found Lee to be a delightful person! We chatted and danced, with my "X" looking on from the sidelines. Embarrassing? It could have been, but Lee made me feel comfortable.
We never dated after that night. I think it's because the love of Lee's life lived in Algona, Ia. Her name was Sherry. I can't help but thinking that Sherry knew Lee would remain true to her. I made up with my boyfriend and life went on.
I heard later that Lee and Sherry married. I'm sure that was how it was meant to be, however, I could never thank Lee enough for rescuing me that one night.
The next time I heard Lee's name was in an email from Sandra Crandall in 2012. It alerted all of Lee's BHS classmates that he had been taken seriously ill. I felt a need to reconnect one last time with Lee so I sent him a copy of my favoite book, Live Your Dash, by Linda Ellis. It's a book about making every moment in your life - the dash in the years between when you are born and when you die, count. It inspires you to live your life with all you've got... to appreciate the blessings and the time you've been given. She moves you to do everything possible to make your time on earth meaningful..in other words... to live your dash.
In response, Lee wrote a beautiful thank you note in which he said, "I'm going to beat this. The book made my day." I felt good inside because Lee had "made my day" at the prom back in 1960. Thanks again, Lee.
