I just found out that this dear man has passed away. He and I carved our names into a court bench before it was dismantled to make way for a new courthouse. He was smart, funny and adored by anyone who came in contact with him. My father-in-law got very ill while my husband was on jury duty. Judge iRyan was presiding and immediately dismissed him. I did not know him at the time so it was not a favor. It was his compassion. Working with him for more than a year side by side I really got to know him and his love for his family. He was very supportive and helped me in every way. I think of him often. My prayers and thoughts are with his family.

Love and prayers. Jack was so kind to me when I was a law student. Wonderful memories of such a warm man. Peace to his family. Carrie Quinlan (Julia's cousin)

My sincere condolences to to the Ryan family. Of the many things that could be shared about Judge Ryan's time on the bench one thing in particular stands out. Judge Ryan was always the go to Judge when you needed a Judge to talk to a group of school children. He always gave freely of his time to visiting students and always answered every question and never hurried them out of his courtroom.
He will be missed.

Judge Ryan was a one of a kind. A no nonsense Judge who was very kind, compassionate and practical in his handling of cases.
As a young lawyer from Bridgeport, I had many occasions to appear before him. During a trial and while cross examining the plaintiff in a civil action, I can still see him watching my feet walking around in his courtroom. It was a stormy snowy morning and I wore my combat boots to court with a three piece suit. His eye glasses almost fell as he kept staring at my boots, yet he never said anything about my clashing attire unti after he'd rendered a decision. He was so funny with his dry humor, but always respectful.
He will be sadly missed by the bench as well as the bar.

My deepest condolences to Judge Ryan's family. More than a decade ago, I tried a few cases before Judge Ryan. He was such a gentleman. He was fair to both parties, considerate to the jury and staff, and fatherly with his patience and advice to young lawyers. He will be truly missed.
