My sincere condolences to John's family and friends on his recent passing. I had the good fortune to be his classmate at Prep, work with him as a judge and appear before him as a lawyer. He was a good man and a fine judge. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Jim Stapleton

I clerked for Judge Ryan many years ago. He was very wise, very unique and very kind. I will never forget one divorce he presided over that showed Judge Ryan to be like King Solomon. The couple was arguing over who would get custody of a ceramic cat they had purchased in happier times during their honeymoon. If they were going to be ridiculous he would give them a similar decision. He ruled that each would share joint custody; each getting the ceramic cat for 2 weeks each month. I will never forget Judge Ryan. He made it a pleasure to come to work.
