Richard was a dear man and I cared for him (and Susan) deeply during my brief time as a member of the Hays family and since. I have thought of both of you often in the past nine years and finally thought to look in the obituary pages. Time has gone by since the world lost this great man, but this is new to me and my heart is broken. Susan, Laurie, David, John and Susanna, please accept my deepest condolences. Susan, I would like to see you again and will look you up.

Dick was a friend, colleague and fellow faculty member at Einstein for many years. His gentleness, charm, knowledge and creativity were accompanied by modesty, care for others and sincerity. As an accomplished physician-scientist, he was one of the vanguard in modern renal physiology and applying the results of research to clinical medicine.although he had cardiac disease for several years, I was shockee to learn of the demise of my dear friend and colleague. We will miss him and send condolence to his large family.
