Angelo and Helen were friends to my parents Lorna and Gordon Osborn of Plantation Key, FL. Even though I was just a teenager then, I have many fond memories of the guys fishing and their tall "tails" of the fish they "caught" and "released," and the many dinners with lots of laughs; and, how so kind Angelo was to my Grandfather who was so thrilled to have met Angelo. I remember Dundee's "corner" at the Plantation Yacht club bar. The best of the greatest generation. They are all together now, with so many friends from the Keys. May they all RIP. My condolences and God Bless the Dundee family.

Allow me to introduce myself as MARCY ATKINS LEFTON, the daughter and only child of LARRY ATKINS, the well-known fight promoter out of Cleveland, Ohio, during the 30s, 40s, and 50s. I am sure you remembered my father who passed away many years ago because you and your brother Chris were legends around my house during the years I grew up in Cleveland. My father dragged me to so many of the great fights he promoted during that time in Cleveland and elsewhere, and then afterward to the Theatrical Grill or Hickory House (Billy Weinberg's place). I followed your career closely, particularly after moving myself to Miami in 1969, and do hope someone will reply to this rememberance. You were "Mr. Boxing" in the eyes of my father, as well as millions of others, and your passing will surely leave an irreplaceable void in the profession since you and your brother were the icons during the "Golden Age of Boxing" and absolute gentlemen. Thank you for passing through my father's life and bringing such joy and happiness to him and, through him, to me. I can only hope that your life was as fulfilled as you desired and that you now can rest in peace and maybe even stage a few matches in heaven among the great and departed legends in the world of boxing.
February 05, 2012
Early in my times as a boxing ringside physician I was blessed with the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest in the sport. If I did not say it enough, thank you Angelo. Surely God now has him in His corner. Angelo Dundee was a kind and gentle man in a very violet sport. He was truly a legend. My eight year old daughter ,who had met him was saddened when she heard the news. She came and told me "Ange died I am sorry Papi he was your friend and he was so nice". May God hold you and your wife dearly. We will miss you.
February 05, 2012
Our condolances & prayers are extended to Angelo's wonderful family. We are honored to have been involved with Angie, and his legendary good will, in the 'Sweet Science', we will miss his energy and smile. Many were called, but few were chosen, who had the talent and human skills to train/coach so many great Champions. Heaven's gain, is our loss. Another Great Guy Gone.
February 05, 2012
My deepest sympathies to the family of Angelo Dundee. I spent some time with him at the Boxing Hall of Fame, and he was such a card, a pleasure to talk to and an encyclopedia of sports knowledge.
May his soul bring laughter and knowledge in the afterlife.
February 05, 2012
Ang,
As I read your guest book and see all the people you touched along the way memories of our times together come flashing back. You took boxing from the gutter to The Garden. Thank you for touching so many people and for making a difference in their lives, and especially in mine. Give Helen a kiss for me and tell my parents I love them. A Keeper

Deepest sympathy to the Family,
February 04, 2012
My condolences to the Dundee family. Angelo was a life long inspiration to so many myself included. I first heard of Angelo when I started boxing in the late 80's. My trainer had pictures of Angelo everywhere and was always using Dundee one liners. Whenever anyone told Sam (my trainer Sam Magee) that he was the best Sam would always say "Angelo Dundee is the best the rest of us are striving for 2nd place". As a constant reminder of that Sam used to put a $2 bill in his pocket for good luck. I have continued that throughout my life. I am saddened by his death but smile knowing he lived life the right way for 90 years and touched so many people. I wonder how many boxers Chris already has lined up for Angelo to train in heaven. I smile at the thought of it. Rest in peace Mr. Dundee.

My Deepest Sympathies to Angelo's Family. While I have known Angelo for only a year he quickly became a dear friend to me and to my mother. I met Angelo while he was recovering from his hip injury last year. He had a magnetic personality. While my dad was also recovering I had a problem as I needed to move my parents into a place where they could be close to me and have care available if they needed it. My Mom did not want to move into a "home" and refused to look at any place. I asked Angelo if he would tell my mom about the place he was moving to. He said "Sure, I would be happy to help". He told her all about it. The next day my mom asked me to take her to "that place Angelo is moving to". I did and they soon both moved into the building. My mom and Angelo became fast friends. I enjoyed breakfast many saturday mornings with both of them. Listening to stories about the old italian ways and laughing at them tell jokes to each other, many times in italian.
I have a picture of Angelo in my office that is signed and says, "Thanks for being Nice!" When I thanked him for signing the picture he said: "No, Thank You for asking me to sign".
I took my mom to visit Angelo in the rehab center about a week ago. He was his typical self. Talking an joking, all while he was getting therapy and exercising. I am glad I got to hug him one last time.
I feel like I have lost a member of my own family.

God Bless You Angelo, and God Bless your family.

I worked with Angelo Dundee at 2 Olympics, in Seoul and in Atlanta, covering boxing for ABC Radio Sports. I learned so much from him, and loved every minute of it. We sat in the stands at the Coloseum in Atlanta, watching the bouts. He could always tell when a fighter was about to get rocked. People would come up and ask to have their tickets signed by Angelo. Fighters saw him on the concourse between bouts and would stop to chat....in English and Spanish. As the Atlanta Olympics wound down, he wanted to go to the Hard Rock Cafe. The crowd outside was 10 or 12 deep, but he noticed the big security guy at the door & said, "Hey, that guy used to come to my gym!" The bouncer saw Angelo, waved us in, and we sat in the VIP area for a great night of feasting and storytelling. He was the BEST, and I keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Working with great legands such as those definetly shows that your loved one had special might, not to mention he lived to be 90yrs. Psalms 90:10 says 70 or eighty special might. Soon your loved one will live again with perfect health on a paradise earth. You can have confidence in the Almighty promise, because his word is faithful and true.

One day 28 years ago I stopped by unannounced at Angelo's office in North Miami with the hope he might be there. He was, and he spent the next two hours chatting with me as though I were an old friend instead of a complete stranger. He was the nicest human being I've ever met in my life. He will be dearly missed.

So sad to bid farewell to Angelo Dundee. Such a joy to be around. So utterly unpretentious and generous of spirit. Always a warm greeting, a kind word and a great story to share. Tough as ring leather, yet soft as a smile. Not many ever lived a better, fuller, more complete life. And left footprints in the sands of time.

On the flip-side of my melancholy is the otherworldly image of old friend Chris Dundee, standing arms open, with that classic Cheshire Cat grin, welcoming Angelo to Round Two with a loving, brotherly hug. If there's a next life, it just got better for everyone.

Heartfelt condolences to the Dundee family, Angelo's ringside family and to those he loved in the global boxing diaspora.

To Angelo's Family, My inlaws lived next door to Angelo's inlaws in Miami. I met Angelo there as I took his book over there for him to sign for my father. My father, Kid Chaples in his boxing years, was the state champion boxer in Vermont and retired with title!! Daddy eventually ended up living in Miami working as the well known "Fastest block layer in So. Fla." He was working on a job in Miami Beach and went to have a burger at a little restaurant near the 5ths street gym. Angelo stopped in for lunch, sat beside my dad, they struck up a memorable conversation (I'm sure about boxing and my dad's part in it; Angelo's part my dad already knew.) Dad had to get back to work and started to pay for his burgerl but Angelo insisted on paying for it. My dad told me, "Nice man." He thought the world of Angelo before meeting him and told me how lucky Mohamad Ali was to have Angelo in his corner. I have many wonderful memories of sitting with dad, watching the fights. I had to smile at the couple who seemed to be so unlikely "a couple" if you heard them talk; Angelo with his Phili sound and Helen with her very strong southern drawl. My mother-in-law was a painter and gave Helen and Angelo (as well as Mildred and George) some of her oil paintings, so if you see the name Wilhelmina Wells, or Billie Wells, you'll know who painted them and that she was a next door neighbor. Our condolances, Jan and Ray Wells, Melbourne, FL 32901

In 1971, I met Angelo in Houston when he was with Muhammad who was training to fight Jimmy Ellis. We became friends, and that led to a friendship with Angelo and Muhammad that I will cherish forever. Angelo was the warmest, kindest, most sincere, unselfish example of a man one could ever find. It is with sadness I learn of his passing. Dr. Larry Rose, Houston.

I met you at Harrah's in New Orleans about 10 years ago . I had to say hello and you made me sit with you on a sofa and you talked to me for an hour like you had known me for years. I have told so many people that story. I wished in retrospect I had gotten you mailing address so i could have kept in touch. What a truly wonderful man you were. I know God has a special place for you.

I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Angelo Dundee this morning. For those of you unfamiliar, he traing numerous great boxers, perhaps most famously Muhammed Ali.

But he was SO much more. He was a true gentleman.

I first met him when my buddy Jamie and I went to the 2000 Olympic Boxing trials. He wasn't ringside with the rest of the VIP's (including Sugar Ray Leonard - whom he also trained), but sitting back in the bleachers with us 'regular folk' and his family. We almost didn't recognize him because of that. I quick ran and bought a poster and he graciously signed it while chatting it up with us.

I then sat in front of him on a flight back from Philly, where I entertained myself listening to his stories while he happily chatted with the early 20's girl seated next to him. (As we walked down the jetway, she and I talked and she asmitted that she had no idea who he travel buddy was...so I explained it...she was crackin up laughing and said she couldn't WAIT to tell her brothers - but was quick to add that she would NOT be admitting to her ignorance of who he was!)

I then brought my poster back to him last year when he appeared at a book signing (btw - "My View from the Corner" is a GREAT read) because the poster was signed in pen and hard to read. When i got to him, he laughed and said "What the hell was I thinking?" as he happily signed away - talking all the while.

The poster now hangs in my office. Reminds us of what trainers are supposed to be.

So yeah...while I may be rambling here a bit - it feels like more than just 'another somewhat famous guy" passing away. He was a GREAT Trainer. In a lot of ways.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Dundee.

Thank You so much for the time you blessed us with. Like those you trained and helped through life, You are The Greatest, sir. Rest in the arms of the Lord.
