May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
February 27, 2011
I extend my sincere condolences to the Clokey family. I watched "Davey & Goliath" in re-runs as a child in the 70's. Davey dealt with issues in two ways - first as a "real" child with selfish inclinations and then with a Bible trained conscience. So few television shows today promote this type of reasoning and respect for God. My parents raised me with the words of Proverbs 22:6 in mind, "Train up a boy {or girl - my addition} according to the way for him {or her - my addition}; even when he {or she - my addition} grows old he {or she - my addition} will not turn aside from it." I strive to live by this even in my adulthood. 1 Peter 3:16 - "Hold a good conscience, so that in the particular in which you are spoken against they may get ashamed who are speaking slightingly of your good conduct in connection with Christ." Many people would rather see a sermon than hear one. Our Christian conduct really matters to Jehovah God!

For Art...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I am saddened to know that the creator of Gumby and Davey and Goliath has passed away. I loved both shows as a child. They were two of the few that my father would allow us to watch. Being a conservative minister, Daddy would only allow us to watch things that were wholesome and taught good morals. Thank you, Art, for sharing them with the world...

I wish to convey my sincerest condolences. To lose a mind responsible for creating such moral and decent charecters such as Gumby is painful. People like him are rarer and rarer in this day and age. May you find comfort in your memories and in scripture. Job 14:14,15

One of the highlights of my adult ministry to teens was having my picture taken with a life-size Davey at a Youth Gathering a few years back. Thanks for the creation of this unique pair.

What comes next for Mr. Clokey? As Goliath would say, "I don't know Davey". Fortunately, we do know where it takes place.
January 11, 2010
Art, your first name really fit you, because that's what you created when you brought us your distinctive animated films. I used to watch Gumby on television when I was little, and I also enjoyed seeing Davey and Goliath. It was rather intriguing to see stop-motion cartoon characters moving in front of props and sets that were real rather than drawn. I could always tell when a cartoon had been made by you. It had that special style that was so different from everything else.
January 11, 2010
My prayers for your grief. I hope You find comfort knowing that what Mr Clokey did for most of us was allow us to be kids.

Mr Clokey! Thank you for hours of enjoyment!
January 11, 2010
It's to bad I did not know of you when you were alive to tell you how I treasured Davey & Golith, Gumby & Pokey. They bring back such pleasant childhood memories when things were simple and easy. Dear Clokey Family,
Please find some solace in knowing that strangers too are thinking of you during this time. A loss for one is a loss for all. May you find comfort in the words of Job 14: 14,15- assuring us of God's desire to bring back to life the work of his hands.

Gumby AND Davey & Goliath. What a wonderful legacy to leave to a family. Both creations were other-worldly but nevertheless were inspiring and enchanting. There was always a good moral message within each storyline. The current generation may have more technology defining their cartoons but Arts creations were no less works of art. Today I turn 50 and yet the memories of Gumby and sounds of "I don't know Davey" resonate like it were yesterday. God bless all who are linked to this extraordinary man. Peace.

Art Clokey was very kind to my daughter, who fifteen year ago wrote him at fan letter at five years old. He wrote her back and sent her a few Gumby items. We have been lifelong fans ever since due to his kindness. RIP Art.
