Bob and Don sought to change their vocation and created what became the number one instrumental group in the history of Rock and Roll. I am a musician and I have a complete collection of The Ventures albums. My favorite is still their first album (Walk Don't Run). Bob's unique sound is still with me as is his version of "Caravan." His passing is a loss and I extend my condolences to his family. Rest in peace Bob, your influence on music will continue.

Like so many, I learned to play guitar from listening to and playing along with The Ventures' albums. I still listen to these albums, although I have replaced them with cds. Personally I prefer the earlier work of The Ventures largely because of Bob's unique style with the wammy bar. I'm in my 60s and when I want to relax I put on the Ventures and play along with the records. Bob thank you for the music. You and Don really made a difference in this world.

This message is a little offkey but still musically inspired & loved in only a way someone who loves guitar & the impacts some of our friends, teachers, prodigies have made on our lives-- even some 50 YEARS later-- can appreciate..
I would like to say that my daddy knows Paul Kirby. And remembers the cool story P.K. relayed (with photos) about the Venturers, you see, cause my daddy was around, too ;)
My daddy (Bob Hunt) told me an awesome story TODAY about how he knew a guy named Paul Kirby and how great a guitar player he was (Called em a Prodigy) and the drummer they played with, and about how the Venturers came to see Paul bedside around the time of the surgery he had.
It inclined me to do a Google search, and wouldn't ya know it, this was the very first result that popped up with "Paul Kirby Nevada Venturers" ?? ;)
If PAUL KIRBY ever gets a chance to see this message, my daddy misses playing guitar with you and he still plays today. I heard a wonderful story about you today, some of your friends and the drives my daddy would make to visit you acrosss the desert.
If you ever see this message, please email me for him! Menstra@msn.com =)

Most people wrote that The Ventures inspired them to learn guitar. For me, it was my learning guitar that introduced me to The Ventures. My guitar teacher taught me how to play Walk Don't Run, Pipeline and Hawaii Five O. I used to bug my Mom for juke box money to play Hawaii Five-O every time we went out to eat. Finally, she bought me every Ventures album we could find at the local department store. I still play Walk Don't Run every once in a while. RIP Bob Bogle

Met Bob in 1965, when The Ventures played my college in California. I mentioned I had seen the group in Tokyo a few years earlier and he told me they were going back that Summer, as they did forever -- and likely still do. I was also going, to visit my dad, and Bob told me to come to see them. I stood on stage left and watched a great concert. Thanks for so many great musical memories.

Thanks Bob for the memories! To a great guitarist that all of Us will miss. Your guitar inspired me in 1959. I started playing because of you and The Ventures. I would like to share one photo with those here at the guestbook. When I was dying Bob and the Ventures came to my hospital room the night before brain surgery in Phoenix, Arizona. You will see him in this vintage picture with Nokie, Mel, and Don.

I just found out now. Thanks, Bob, for the never-ending pile of sweet guitar licks you've given me (and all guitar players) to mine for the rest of our lives. You made it all sound so darn easy! Rest in peace.

I am a day one fan and am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing RIP and rock on for eternity. It was great to see you on Mike Huckabee's show.

Watching the Grammy presentation this evening, I was struck by the announcement that Bob had passed away this past year. I am simply taken back by this and would just like to say that he was a kind and just person. He gave much to all of us in his music and for those who knew him he was a wonderful human being as well.

Good bye Bob and thank you for all that you gave to us. Your music is a lasting testimony and gift for generations to come. We will miss you and your kindness in this World.

Our thoughts and prayers go out the the Bogle family.

I bought my first electric guitar when I was 48 years old, because I heard an old familiar Ventures song in a movie, and decided that I had to learn to play that song as one of the things on my "Bucket List". Tonight, I am sitting in my computer room with my 19 year old son, who is playing a strange online role playing game that I don't really understand. This game (Anarchy Online) has an "In Game " radio station, and they have been playing a tribute to the Ventures for the last little while. Two generations inspired by Bob. As a fellow Bob, I salute you Bob Bogle. Walk, Don't Run into whatever lies next.

RIP Uncle Bob!

I still and will always savour the memories when both my wife and I met Bob and The Ventures in Japan in 1972. I'm 62 years old now, I grieve in silence for both Bob and Mel but take comfort in listening to my collection of their recordings.God Bless the Ventures and God Bless America.
October 13, 2009
Bob thank you for all your inspiration all these years. When anyone asks how I learned to play, I tell them by learning your songs. They taught me chords, leads, arrangements, and how to keep myself open to new sounds. Bob, you were fun to watch because it looked like you were having so much fun. So on behalf of guitarists everywhere, we salute you. Not only do I still listen to your records, I still perform your tunes....and people, they may now know what and where they came from, but they love them as do I. Bless you Robert Velasquez, Sacramento, Calif.

1 Corinthians 15:20-22
However, now christ has been raiseed up from the dead, the firstfrutits of those who have fallen asleep in death. for since death is through a man, resurection of the dead is also through a man. For just as in Adam all are dying, so also in the Christ all are being made alive.

I was very saddened to learn about Bob's passing . I found out about it on You Tube . To me , Bob was the greatest electric bass player , who ever lived ! It was no accident , that
he & the Ventures got together with the Mosrite guitar designer . The greatest talents , required the greatest instruments . The Ventures , have been an almost daily household word in our family , since the 60's . Thanks largely to Bob & the group's talents , today my sons play bass , keyboard , drums , & I play lead etc . I want to make cd's , & Bob's great sound & talent , are a big part of it . Thanks to Bob , The Ventures & their family members , for sharing them , with the rest of the world . After I see Jesus & a few relatives , Bob will definately be one of the first I want to meet in Heaven . God Bless Bob , & all for a matchless legacy & tremendous influence on my family & the entire World , he will be missed my many , I'm sure . He
( somehow ) seemingly did " the impossible " by providing the entire world , with some of the greatest music ever recorded !
Sincerly Jim R . Lopinto & family

Dear Bogle Family, I am so very sorry to hear about Bob's passing. I just found out by visiting the Ventures' website and it hit me hard. I am 63 years old and have been a big Ventures fan since my mid-twenties. I'm glad I got to meet him personally when the guys came to Cleveland in '98. I always wanted to play guitar but I guess never had the patience for it. Bob absolutely amazed me with his savvy on lead and bass guitar. I'll never forget him. I'm sure he's up there in heaven wowing all the angels with that whammy bar. Al Haymond

To the Memory of one founder:
And to the family, from a guitarist (non professional)that grew with the fantastic music of The Ventures, and played this kind of music forever. Receive my condolences from Guatemala, a Central America country that where many young people of sixties years , danced with this valuable music. Rest in Peace dear Bob.
June 30, 2009
Always enjoyed listening to your music while growing up in Yakima, WA. in the 60,s. Thanks so much, God be with you. Bill, Olympia, WA.

June 29, 2009
I love insrumentals and the Ventures were and will always be my favorite group. In the mid 60's my mother made mosrite guitars in Bakersfeild with some of her friends. I have their album THE BEST OF THE VENTURES with all of the various guitars on the cover. Thanks for the wonderful music.
June 29, 2009
The guitar playing by the Ventures was so clean and precise that sometimes I used to just listen for that "characteristic" in their records. The way I judge music is determining whether or not I would put money in a jukebox to hear it, and I would pay to hear that great guitar playing.
June 29, 2009
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.
June 29, 2009
The Ventures were the first band that truly inspired me. My friend was a member of their fan club, and his brother and I would listen to the vinyl in amazement. They inspired me to get into music. Today I am still drumming in bands (Thanks, Mel Taylor). Bob Bogle on the Mosrite was the BEST! Rest in Peace, Bob and Mel.
June 29, 2009
I grew up with the Ventures. As a guitar player they were my role models.
June 28, 2009
Sorry for your loss. May your memories of Mr. Bogle sustain you and may it help you to keep his music alive.
Listen to his music when you miss him the most and it may serve to keep him forever close.
His group had a wonderful, easy to listen to type of music, safe but
energetic, very alive. I used to call
it get-up-and-go music. He will be missed but not forgotten.

June 28, 2009
May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
June 28, 2009
Bob Bogle and the rest of the Ventures inspired me get an electric guitar back in 1965...it was the best thing that ever happened to me...forty-five years later I still enjoy playing the Ventures music on my Mosrite. I also have a Mosrite bass that I will never let go of. At the Venures' 1966 concert at Glens Falls High School I had the honor of carrying Bob's amplifier to their tour station wagon after the show. Bob was a very humble musical genius and an inspiration to more people than he could ever have imagined...bless his heart and soul.

The Ventures were a major influence on my learning to play the guitar. After all, they were the top instrumental group in the 60's,and contined to influence players for more than 40 years. I hope the Ventures will continue to play. All I can say is thank you for the music, and I extend my deepest sympathy to the Bogle family. Bob was an A+ guitarist

Thank you Ventures and Bob for helping me to fulfill my dream. God bless you Bob and your family, you will live forever

Bob was one of the nicest people I have had the privelege to have known. I still can't believe that in the early 80's, Bob came to our home when The Ventures were doing a concert in Columbus,Oh. My husband that has been a fan for almost 50 yrs. drove down to his motel, picked him up. I fixed him a home cooked meal. Then we drove him back to Little Brothers for the concert. What a wonderful time. I just wanted to share this just to show what a wonderful person Bob was. God Bless all his family, friends and fans.

I wanted to let you know that I will always remember you and the Ventures in the 60's. I wore out lots of Albums and still have them. One of the best memories is when I got them chosen for my high school play at Istrouma High in 1970. It was just the right touch. Thanks Bob, Don, Mel, and Nokie. Peace be with you all.
June 19, 2009
Bob, was one of the best friends I've ever had. I was fortunate to work with the Ventures for a number of years and be produced by Don and Bob. I also worked as Tour Director for the group and I remember one grueling 4 month tour period we traveled 50,000 miles in less than 4 months. 44,000 by Motor Home with a 16 ft trailer behind us and 6000 by air to Alaska. Bob while having a extremely dry wit, was maybe the funniest men I've ever known. We would be driving thru .. oh where ever.. Ohio, Kansas, Alabama, at 3 o'clock in the morning, he or I in the driver seat and he would start telling jokes. I remember it was hard to stay on the road his jokes were so funny. He had a knack for a rubicks cube. I would take the cube and just wreck it.. and in less than a minute he would have it straightened out. He was a incredible musician on bass, on lead guitar, with a ear for what was right in the song. He was the foundation for all the Ventures music. He knew who and what the group was. He was co everything with Don Wilson who was also and is still one the most special people in the world to him and to me. Don was the heart, Bob was the Body. I last saw Bob a year and a half ago in Vancouver.. and he still.. was caring, and had a joke to tell. I will miss my friend. I will miss his humor, his quiet caring, his wisdom in his humility, Bob Bogle was and will always be through infinity one hell of a guy. Don't get much better than this. I loved Bob as a brother and a friend and will never forget his humor, his smile, his effort, his talent, his knowledge, his giving spirit, his friendship, his ability to show others what a quality human being can do in music and to help others. GOD Bless you BOB Bogle! Your friend Russ Deck

What can I say? It was the late 60's, I was in high school and owned a few 8 track tapes of the Ventures. I wore them out. What an awesome legacy of work Mr. Bogle left us. My condolences to his family and fans.
June 19, 2009
Bob;
Thank you for your inspiration. The first song I learned to play was "Walk, Don't Run". After that, I learned many more Ventures instrumentals. Heaven is a better place now, and there is a hole down here left by your absence...but your spirit lives on through us...your fans. REST IN PEACE BOB BOGLE
June 18, 2009
I think the greatest tribute a musician or group can have is if, when one of their songs comes on the radio you automatically know who it is within the first bar or two.
The Ventures definitely fall into that category.
They may have been one of the trademark sounds of the '50s and '60s, but as a 44 year old guitarist I appreciate them as much as any other band.
June 18, 2009
Yeah, pretty good run for a former bricklayer! Thanks for all the classic & memorable sounds that became the personal music anthems -- & lessons -- for millions of us loyal fans of THE VENTURES worldwide for half a century. May the peace of Jesus Christ be with the Bogle family and friends.
June 18, 2009
I wish to add my condolences to Bob's family and friends, and to the Ventures as well. I honed my drumming skills with hours and hours of locking myself in my room with my drumset and crankin' up the volume to Venture albums! When my older brother brought home the 1st album in the early 60's, I just knew I had to play that kind of music. The Ventures were among the top musical influences in my life, and I just wanted to say "Thanks" for all the great music, it changed my life...

We all grew up with The Ventures -they are all truly national treasures. I met Bob once backstage after a Southern California gig and found him to not only be a rock n' roll legend but a genuinely nice guy. So are the rest of The Ventures-Don, Nokie, Bob Spalding and Leon. They are carrying on the legend. The Ventures truly will live forever. My warmest condolences to Bob's family and to the guys. They not only lost a partner, they lost a very good friend. Then, so did we all.
June 18, 2009
The Ventures music is truly an inspiration to all musicians. I have been performing on keyboards in a Surf band, and we love the music, its so timeless!-Lisa Fiorenza, Surf67 member

I'm shocked and saddened by the news. Bob never knew me, a great fan of the Ventures (ever since "Driving Guitars" knocked me out in 1962) but I feel like I've always known him and so now to me it feels like having lost a dear friend...
My condolences to his family and friends.
June 18, 2009
I became a fan because of my father. The first song I learned on guitar was the beginning of Honky Tonk, I believe was the name. Thanks for the inspiration Bob and I plan on teaching my children the music that has inspired my father and myself.

Greatest guitarist of the greatest Instrumental group of the greatest generation for music of all time. RIP Bob Bogle!
June 18, 2009
Bob, you are gone now but anybody who has ever picked up a guitar during the 60's will owe something of their playing style to you and the Ventures. Back then, one was not considered a "hot" guitarist unless they knew at least a half dozen Ventures songs. You set the bar for all to follow in your footsteps. I still have my 1965 Mosrite of California VENTURES Model guitar, and it is my most prized posession. Thanks for the great music and my condolences to the families.
June 18, 2009
I am a fan since 1960. Saw the guys perform in Hawaii in 69. Sorry for the loss. Glad they made it to RRHOF last Year. May God Bless.

I grew up in Seattle. I've lived many different places over the years. Wherever I was living and a Venture song came on I would relay to everyone that the band was from my home state.
The songs were like letters from home.
They always will be.

As a fan of The Ventures since June of 1960, their music has been a big part of my life for the past 49 years. May God's Spirit comfort the Ventures family at this most difficult time.
June 17, 2009
May the God of all comfort console and strengthen the Bogle Family at this time.
Bob was a true pioneer and innovator in the music world. The Ventures music has been playing in my house since 1964 when a friend gave me a copy of "Walk-Don't Run'64" on 45 RPM.
A chapter from my childhood that will never die because of Bob and The Ventures music that will always live in my heart.
June 17, 2009
Very saddened to hear of Bob's passing. Always enjoyed the Ventures music. Would listen at full blast on the car radio barreling down the highway. Bob may be gone but he lives on in the fantastic music he was so instrumental in making. My condolences to his family and friends.

June 17, 2009
I met Bob after I joined the Olympia local of the American Federation of Musicians. Every year, the union had a Christmas party and free-for-all jam session. Bob and other full-time road musicians, such as Don Ulrich (Don Rich), who played for Buck Owens, would show up. They inspired me to be a full-time musician, which is exactly what I did. God has another great guitarist in his heavenly band.

I grew up listening to the VENTURES. I got my first guitar @14 and shortly thereafter got all the PLAY GUITAR WITH THE VENTURES ALBUMS (as they were released). These albums were my first guitar teacher and gave me the foundation I needed to get into my first band, The Penetrations (late sixties-Toledo Ohio). The play guitar w/ the VENTURES instructional albums were cool because you could fill in the lead - rhythm & bass parts yourself while you played along with the VENTURES! I'm sure everyone that reads this picked up on the fact we named our band after a VENTURES song also! -- Penetration --. When I first heard the VENTURES unique sound I new that I wanted to play like that. With the help of the VENTURES I did! Thank you for your music and inspiration!

thanks for all the great songs

This is such a heartbreak. I heard Bob leading The Ventures on Walk-Don't Run just as I was learning to play guitar. I never dreamed we would eventually become good friends and that I would write the band's biography and have it published the day of their Hall of Fame induction. My heart goes out to Bob's wife, Yumi, who made Bob a happy man.
Ventures Forever!
June 17, 2009
Our band was, because of the Ventures. I did get to see them play in El Paso years ago, and still as friendly and joyful as they were years before that.
I'll miss the guy that is the reason I just bought a new guitar (with a tremelo)
June 17, 2009
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Bogle family. Bob Bogle and The Ventures was my inspiration in the early 1960s. I played in a rock band in Toledo, Ohio and we played many Ventures songs. I am 63 now and still play Walk, Don't Run almost every day! The Ventures will never be forgotten.
June 17, 2009
Such a great loss. I grew up in the Venture era. Learned to play guitar and patterned myself after the Ventures. Played in bands using Venture music. Bob will be missed by all.
June 17, 2009
Bob, you created a monster in my family. My brother was an idle of yours, and you inspired him to play and play his quitar for hrs. every day. He ended up playing with Elvis Presley for years. Thank you for the gift you gave to us who love music, and you. Condolences to your family.

I am so sad to hear this news. My brother loved the Ventures and learned all of their music to perfection. He was a wonderful musician and learned so much from this group. I still love to listen to them to this day. My brother died at a young age of 28.

Very sad day for the music world. Bob Bogle truly was a legend. Whenever I'm listening to the radio in the car and the song Walk Don't Run comes on, I immediately know it's the Ventures. Thanks for giving the world some great tunes.
June 17, 2009
No obituary of a Venture is truly complete without a picture of a Mosrite guitar.
June 17, 2009
You probably didn't realize what you started Bob, but there is a whole generation that will say "Thank You" for doing it.
June 17, 2009
I started buying Venture albums in 1966. The professionalism of their craft, became the standard of today's musician. THE MUSIC THEY CREATED WILL ENDURE THE TEST OF TIME
June 17, 2009
This is a very sad day. Bob Bogle was the man who got me started on guitar, and although Nokie Edwards was great, it was Bob's guitar work that really hit me when I was younger, the way he played chords with his leads. I am very very sorry and my condolences to the Bogle family. I will never forget him.
June 17, 2009
Thanks for the fun. I have such happy memories of your music and my youth. Bless you my friend.
June 17, 2009
The world of music has truly lost one of the best. My condolences to the Bogle and Ventures Families. Bob, you will be missed but never forgotten.
Thanks for teaching me everything I know about the guitar!
June 17, 2009
I am very sorry to hear about Bob Bogle's death. Bob, you will certainly be missed. The Ventures is the greatest instrumental group of all time, no doubt about that. There is a great line posted here that goes, "You provided the soundtract to my youth!" Hear, hear.
June 17, 2009
I still have my first Venures album which is Walk Don't Run and I'm 60 years old and still Rockin' because of Bob Bogle and his great guitar playing!
Bob and his contribution to the art of music will live on. We'll miss him and Mel Taylor. Those two will be waiting for "The guys" to join them in heaven no doubt. What a party that will be!

Your "picking" still amazes me today every bit as much as it did in 1960. Rest in peace and play some riffs with Jimi, Chet, and Luther; what a jam you're in now!

Walk, Don't Run was one of the best instrumentals of the Summer of 1960. I'll always remember that Summer and that song as part of it.

When I was a boy of 12, I already had become enamored with the acoustic guitar.
At that time in musical history, folk music was very prominent in our country, and I soon found myself wanting a guitar more than anything else in this life.
THEN...... along came "Walk, Don't Run", the best 2 minutes in Rock & Roll,PERIOD!!! CASE CLOSED!!
It was then time to plug in!!!!
At the age of 13, I was in a band playing alot of instrumentals that we learned from Ventures records.
We were pretty ambitious for a bunch of 13-year old kids, but it gave us all a lasting appreciation for the guitar instrumental.
Among the tunes we played were "Honky Tonk", "Pipeline", "Windy And Warm", and "Morgen".
From the extended family of guitarists that exist the world over, we send our collective hearts to the family of our lost brother and mentor.
I am particularly glad that he lived long enough to be honored by the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame.
The Ventures' induction took too many years, considering their profound influence, and it wasn't until they were inducted that I made a trip to see this most amazing museum.
Rest In Peace, Bob. Heaven just got another fantastic guitarist.
June 17, 2009
Thanks you Bob for all the joy you gave everyone with your guitar playing. What a hero and what an inspiration. I will miss you.
June 17, 2009

Celebrating a life well lived. We will cherish the memories forever.

Igrew up in the hippie era, but the ventures remained a favorite always, and even now on my Ipod, may God Bless his friends and family, in this time of sorrow.
June 16, 2009
I have followed The Ventures since 1962 and ran their U.S. fan club for 10 years (1982-1992). Bob Bogle, along with all The Ventures are all dear friends of mine. I felt totally numb when I found out about Bob's death this past Sunday (6/14). M. Kuhn, Camden, NJ
June 16, 2009
All guitarist learned something from the Ventures... Bob was one of my guitar heros. He will be surely missed. I constantly listen to my Ventures CDs. They are timeless!!

My heart goes out to the family.
June 16, 2009
There will never be another guitarist like Bob Bogle. Like thousands of other teenagers in the early sixties, I took up guitar because of The Ventures and Bob's unique sound. Almost 50 years later, I'm still trying to get it. I'm going to miss you, Bob.
June 16, 2009
I grew up listening to The Ventures back in the 60's and I still listen to them today and now I'm 60 years old tooI send my hope and paryers to his family in this time of sorrow. WALK DON.T RUN FOREVER
June 16, 2009
I play "Slaughter on 10th Avenue" and "Hawaii 5-0" every day. "Slaughter" was the DJ's sign-off song, heard it every afternoon after school on Okinawa back in 68. I have never tired of hearing it or playing it in the years since, that is your true legacy. What other band inspires young players worldwide like the nine year old girl in Japan who plays your stuff so well. You and Mel have left the building, and the others will follow in time, but The Ventures will never die. Rest in peace, Bob.
June 16, 2009
We have enjoyed the Ventures for many years. We have three generations in our home that loves the Ventures. We will miss Bob Bogle. We send out heart felt sorrow to the family. He is now playing for God.

My inspiration to play guitar came from Bob Bogel and the Ventures. I play their recordings to this day and I am in awe still of their talents. I played with a few bands and I could not begin to estimate the number of times we had requests for Walk, Don't Run, Perfidia and Slaughter on tenthe Avenue, or anything by the Ventures.. God bless Bob and his family. I'm sure he is in heaven playing for the Lord.
