Buck continues to live in our hearts & the music is timeless. Anywhere theirs a smokey bar with a country flavor Bucks songs make it come to life. He raised the bar and many have tried but they have not reached it yet. My dad introduced me to Buck Owens music at a time when i was big on CCR and the Bay Area sound. Well now Im at about the age my father was when he introduced me to Bucks music & I love that Bakersfield sound. Buck is not resting he is playing the best music in heaven along with George Jones, Hank Williams and Jimmie Rogers just to name a few & I hope to hear them all up their in God's kingdom when my time to go has come!
May 07, 2013
to buck owens; buck your still one of the best ive heard since i was a young man and today i still listen to your songs. i only wish that 97.1 the radio station in houston would play all of your twenty greatest hit songs but they do not. 97.1 of houston texas plays the legdonary country western artists but these people never play any songs of yours. except with dwight yokum the streets of bakersfield ok.? so thanks for all the good singing and the very funny hee haw shows too.

A big influence on my love of Country Music. I spent 1965 in Vietnam, listening to "Buckaroo" and upon my arrival home, "Waitin' in Your Welfare Line". That red, white and blue guitar, the grin and most of all that sound - one of a kind. Buck, you're missed already.
December 03, 2012
buck owens, waylon jennings & merle haggard were just some of the great country entertainers who inspired my brother dave and i to form the WILDSIDE BAND in north seattle. We were honored to sing many of their songs on stage. we can never forget the great sounds of buck and don rich, and when we sang bucks songs people would relate it to buck and flood the dance floors. some of us were honored to have seen him perform at the crystal palace in bakersfield and to see his famous red, white & blue guitar. i know that i love and miss buck and will never forget him. how lucky we were to have lived in the same era as buck owens. don
November 14, 2012
As a young sailor from the northeast, I had no idea who Buck was in 1966 when a shipmate from Texas introduced me to the music I treasure so much now...Buck Owens was a huge part of that and I am forever grateful...I'm proud to call myself an honorary "Buckeroo"....Tom

Buck Owens is truly my favorite country singer and I have a few of his albums and compact discs. I hope to get some of his 45s if I ever find them somewhere. His music is just timeless and I enjoy it every bit of the way. The red, white and blue guitar was very famous because I saw it with him every week on Hee Haw same goes for the red, white and blue Fender Telecaster he had as well. Not only Buck Owens played one, Don Rich played one as did keyboardist Jim Shaw. Bass Play Doyle Curtsinger had either a red, white and blue Fender Jazz Bass or a Fender Precision Bass. Buck and his Buckaroos were a great act not just to listen to but to play and sing along with. I'm sure all of his fans miss him including me.

One time Buck was in a town where I was working and I had heard he was looking to get into bluegrass and wanted a banjo player. I saw him back stage and said I heard he was looking for a banjo player. He said he had one already. I asked who, and he said, "Ron Jackson". I told him I could play rings around Ron Jackson. Buck put his arm around me and said, "Yeah, old buddy you probably can, but he's working for me and you're not". That's when I learned this fellow was one shrewd buisness man. The buck stopped right there.

Buck Owens was always a man that I admired as I was growing up.
I had read that Mr. Owens grew up having to work at any early age and not having very many necessities.
Mr. Owens always remembered his humble beginnings after becoming America's No.1 Country Artist during the '60's and 70's
I had the opportunity to see Mr. Owens and the Buckaroos perform twice at the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California.
An "oustanding venue" (First-Class) in every respect. On the first visit,, Mr. Owens came down from his office upstairs and had photos made with me and my family. On the second visit, I brought those photos and Mr. Owens signed them as he was leaving the Crystal Palace (Driving his yellow Hummer)
He was an extremely kind man, shook my hand, thank me and my family for coming from North Carolina to California and said that it was a real pleasure to meet us.
Mr. Owens was America's No.1 Country Artist. He was also the individual that
I grew up admiring and finally being able to meet in person. He was the kind and generous man that I had always known.
May God Bless!

For Buck...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Just stopped by to give tribute to an old friend.
I was fortunate enough to co-write a song on the 41st Street Lonely Hearts Club album with Buck Owens and Dennis Knutson which was also a single for him. It was called Weekend Daddy.
The album placed #35 on the Billboard album charts and the single placed #19 on the Billboard Singles chart in 1975.
I am now in ministry to the soldiers of our great country and have a ministry web site with some of my music on it. If anyone would like to view, it is www.soldiersforchristministries.org.

When I was growing up my mother told me a store about my dad and Buck. When Buck was in mesa him and my dad played on radio stations. Also gas station like buildings with big glass plate windows were people would drive up and put a speaker on their car windows like drive in's and listen as they played. My dad followed Buck on the way to Calf. But along the way he found a part for a car that he had been looking for. Instead of following Buck he turned around and went back to mesa. I was told he even showed Buck some guitar licks, His name was Dale Shane he also played with Marty Robins. Just history I was told, but the music lives on with Bucks recordings. The great sounds of country!
June 22, 2009
Dickie Garland was my grandpa,I was not old enough to remember when he used to play with Buck Owens but I love to look at all the pictures and listen to all their songs. My grandpa lived a great life full of fun, music, and love. We miss him, but if it was not for Buck then he might not have been such a big hit in Bakersfield. Thank you Buck Owens you are loved and greatly missed. I hope you found my grandpa in Heaven and the two of you are singing again.

My good friend Mike Garland was Dicky Garlands nephew, 1/2 of the Sandland Brothers. We used to play the Sandland brothers song...I'm sending Red roses for a blue lady.
Remember when Dicky kept getting shocked by the microphone? HA!
I went to all the Buck Owens Toys for Tots shows. What a show! I've never seen anything to match it yet. Been many years and I still pine for those days in Bakersfield. It had a flavor and mystic all of its own.
God bless Lebec, California.
GOD BLESS BUCK!

July 19, 2007
I'm sorry this posting is so late, but I first discovered this site this week.

I've listened to and loved country music all my life. (My Mom says the first TV show I watched with interest was Jimmy Dean's daytime program). I enjoyed my folks' recordings of Jimmy Dean, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold, etc. But I'll never forget Father's Day, 1969. That was the evening "Hee Haw" debuted. I can safely say that night changed my life. Buck and the Buckaroos got me truly "hooked" on country music. From then on, my folks knew what I wanted for my birthday or Christmas--one of Buck's albums. (While other Jr. high-age kids were listening to hard rock)!

October 3, 1969, will live on in my memory forever. That was the day my Dad, Mom, and I traveled to Green Bay, WI (over 70 miles) to see Buck and his show live. Little did I know that was the only time I would ever see Buck or Don in person. And when Buddy Alan stepped on stage, I thought he was his dad!

I especially love Buck's inspirational albums--"Dust on Mother's Bible" and "Your Mother's Prayer"--they truly helped me grow in my faith.

In 1970, I wrote for information on joining Buck's fan club, but unfortunately, it was filled and could no longer accept new members. But Mike thoughtfully "autographed" my return message with his typwritten name on the label!

Buddy Alan, Mike, and John, I want you to know this--outside of my own parents--Buck was the most influential person in my life.

And because I know Buck also shared my love for animals, I'm including my cat, Buffy, as well as my Mom and me, in sending this message. God bless you all.

BUCK OWENS
You will live on in our lives forever. You are missed dearly.
April 17, 2007
Well, I guess I'm just a bit late in signing this.
I went to school with Bucks kids and lived just across the cotton field from him. I walked over to his house several times as a kid. When I grew up, I moved to the Pittsburgh, PA area and when I returned to Bakersfield, after a long absence, it made me feel good that Buck remembered me, growing up out there, along the Weedpatch Hwy, Bakersfield.
I saw the great, Don Rich and Fuzzy Owens there, several times too.
My father, Pete "Curly" DeRose use to play at the Blackboard with Buck, then Merle, Bill Woods, Cousin Herb and several others.
He was a great Entertainer and he will be missed.

I see, my dentist & friend
W. Kahle Johnson and my friend Byrl Johnson signed this guest book. I even got Buck to autograph a picture for Kahle.
They both really love Buck's music and they come to my little bar,
to play music, they love that Bakersfield swing.

huntersroadhouse

I have pictures of Buck at the Crystal Palace on my site too.

My husband, Gary Hunter Trautwein,
had always been a fan of Bucks, but after he met him, he was an even bigger fan.
I see my Aunt Millie DeRose signed this guest book too. She went to the Crystal Palace,, every chance she got, to see Buck and had several pictures taken with him. I'll try to get a copy of one, for my web site.
BUCK, YOU WERE THE MAN !

I love you Buck Owens and I wish that I could have met you. I play your kind of music and I liked your kind of sound. Thank You Buck. Jonah age 10
March 27, 2007
It's been slightly over a year since your passing and I wanted to take a second to thank Buck and his numerous band members for all the great music they produced from their earliest LP (Buck Owens) in 1960 to the mid 70's ( Bride Over Troubled Waters, Ruby, etc) I collected, and still have all your early LP's, and have ended up duplicating most of these off the Sundazed series CD sets. I saw three of your shows in Edmonton, Alberta in the 60's and I cannot tell you the impression you made on me. I'm telling your family how much I appreciated your music and your performances. If there is a better place, then I'm sure you are there now with your ole buddy Don Rich and the rest of the country hierarchy creating a newer version of Hee Haw. Just image: Johnny Cash, Don Gibson, John Denver, Wynn Stewart, Harlon Howard, Faron Young, Doyle Holly, Waylon, Marty Robbins, Patsy, and Jim Reeves. Would be a trip to hear, wouldn't it? I miss you Buck, but the music lives on! Thanks so much for the memories. You were a class act!
March 25, 2007
It is hard to beileve that it has been 1 year since you died. We will always remember you for putting Bakersfield on the country music map. When we here "Streets of Bakersfield" we think of you and Dwight Yockum singing. Rest in Peace Buck.
March 14, 2007
You will always in my mind.
Rest is peace. I hope you will play now with Don Rich and many others in hilbilly heaven.
Thanks for the music.

Buck Owens changed my life. I had the priveledge to work for Buck, Buddy and Michael Owens for 8 years on the air at BUCKS radio station, KNIX,Phoenix from 1979 to 1987. I will forever cherish the ways he ran his radio stations. He really took care of his people and was always grateful for our hard work. I will miss his smile, wisdom and how proud I was to work at his very successful and special radio station. It is Certainly the highlight of 33 years in country radio. Buck, I will miss you. Thank you for all you did for us.

I was to express my sympathy as well from the Adams Family. Many years ago my Aunt sang with Buck in fact she toured with him in the late 60's. I think Dad said for 7 years. Her name is Kay Adams. I also know that Great Grandma Adams wrote some songs that he recorded that we are now looking for. I can also remember meeting Buddy Allen when he was very young they came through Amarillo in the bus and that is where we met him. My Father was also close to Don Rich who is in Heaven guiding Buck along now. Don's death hit Dad hard to so Buck he shared in your grief in loss a great friend.

always remember Buck
August 12, 2006
I remember meeting Mr. Owens at his uncle's funeral. My family is good friends with his cousins Margie, Ruth, June, etc. My mom was his secretary in the late 60's. She told us stories about when she worked for Buck. At his uncle's funeral he walked over to talk to my mom and I. He looked mom over and said "the years have been good to you Shirley." He was very kind and talked with us for awhile.

I just found out tonight that he had passed away. It is so sad.
August 03, 2006
I was shocked to hear about Buck's passing by Dwight Yoakam last night during his performance in Amsterdam. Dwight contributed a medley of Buck's songs which was very touching. His music will always live on and I feel blessed to have met Buck once. I'm sure he's looking down upon us with a big smile.

I watched Buck Owens and his show for years. I can remember Buck saying, "I want to introduce you to a Country Musician. If he comes to your area, go out and see him. He's great!"

He introduces The Hag.

I'm not impressed. How could this guy make it in Country Music? His voice is soft and tight; no Hank Thompson, for sure.

Then I bought Merle's first album in 1969 and was blown away by the man. Merle and his guitar man were an awesome duo.

Like Buck, I was slaughtered when Don Ritch died. I loved the high harmonies and his incredible leads. No doubt, Buck and Don, were responsible for some of the greatest music ever recorded in Country Music.

I spent a lot of time listening to "Tender Love and Care." And, ... "Sweet Rosie Jones."

My dream would be to play a mean "harp" to a Buck and Don reunion!

My father thought of Buck Owens as a hero and listened to his music religiously. Me and my brothers grew up listening to his music and watching him on Hee Haw and becoming instant fans. I can honestly say that I think I was born knowing all the words to his songs already. Buck Owens was a great influence to not only my fathers life but to all of our lives coming up and I know that he is now in God's loving hands. May he rest in peace.

April 06, 2006
What a sad time for Bakersfield. This is an end of a great era. I grew up around so many of the musicians. Buck being one of them. I'll never forget the stories Daddy and Uncle George use to sit around and tell...one of Buck coming to Granny Bess' house for chicken and dumplings in his bib overalls, rolled up to his ankles. Buck, Merle, Bill Woods, Cousin Herb all were such a great influence on my brother Billy. They're music (that good ole "Bakersfield Sound") is what inspired Billy to become a musician. Rest in Heavenly Peace Buck - God Bless you and your Family.

As a nobody and lousy musician I am, I was blessed and fortunate enough to have had the chance to perform with my hero, Buck Owens, and his great band, The Buckaroos!

I was in the Air Force Band at the time stationed in Washington, DC. Buck Owens and the Buckaroos were invited to be our guest artist and perform with us at DAR Constitution Hall. They played one set on their own and then came back on to perform Johnny B Goode with the full USAF band backing them.

That was almost 30 years ago but I can remember we rehearsed on Bolling AF Base with them before the actual concert. For some reason, a tape was made of the rehearsal session and long story short, the tape somehow ended up with me. On it, Buck sings all his hits and also forgets the words to Johnny B. Goode. However, he fills the gap by ad-libbing a couple of lines in rhyming fashion which were hilarious!

I was very intimidated meeting them let alone having to perform with them. They were my idols, and believe it or not, my influence! It was a special show for me because I was a huge fan of Buck Owens…long before being a fan of his was cool!

Back then I was too shy to introduce myself and did not take the opportunity to shake hands nor ask for a photo or autograph! About 10 years ago I was able to get the courage to stop Doyle during a break at the Crystal Palace to ask him if he remembered the gig the USAF Band, which he did, although he would have no idea who I was since I was part of an 80 piece orchestra!

I am happy to learn that the Buckaroos will continue on. By doing so, the spirit of Buck will live on for us. Buck Owens is the Buckaroos and vice-versa. You just know that Buck will be right there on stage with them whenever they play - keeping watch and keeping them in line!

Love to you all and God Bless.

My deepest thoughts go to the family of the great Buck Owens
April 05, 2006
I never had the priviledge of meeting Buck personally. However, I do have childhood memories of visiting with his mother at her home after school. At the time that I met Mrs. Owens I was in grade school. I don't remember the exact events that took place when I first met her but I do remember that I didn't even know who she really was until I had been visiting her for some time. I happened to mention to her that my parents and I were going to the "Toys for Tots" show. She told me to bring an autograph book to her and she would have Buck get some signatures for me. I must have looked very confused, because she explained to me that she was Buck's mother and showed me some pictures she had of Buck and his boys. The next day I did bring that autograph book to her. A few days after the show when I returned to her home she handed me my book and inside were pictures of Buck and Buddy along with their autographs. I still have this book to this day. These were some amazing memories and it is not hard to understand how Buck and his family remained so grounded with a woman like this in their lives. Some years later I met Buck's grandson Brent. Like his grandmother he did not brag about his relation. In fact I had no idea for several months until I noticed him wearing a KNIX (Bucks Arizona station)duster and he explained who he was. I wish I had had the opportunity to meet Buck and get to know him for the person he was. He did a lot of wonderful things for our community outside of the music. What a wonderful man and he will be greatly missed. My prayers go out to the entire Owens family.
April 04, 2006
I, like many will miss Buck very much. He is and always will be a hero to me. I grew up watching him on Hee Haw and I used to pretend that Buck was my husband when we played "house". Some years later, I wrote to Buck and told him that, and in return, he sent my an autographed picture personalized for me. I'll treasure that picture forever. Thank you Buck for everything that you've given to me over the years. I'll never, ever forget you. I love you Buck! Rest in peace my friend.
April 04, 2006
My deepest sympathy to Buck's family

Buck was a very good counrty sinder an a real good actor on Hee Haw.
April 03, 2006
Rest in Heaven and enjoy the singing with the God's Angels. My condolences to the family and all his friends that gave him honor at the Valley Baptist Church services. It was a meaningful and a blessing to see the Celebration of Life that was given to him. I remember as a teenager sneaking into the Blackboard to hear him play with Bill Woods. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Woods later in my life and installing some ceiling fans in his home. He showed me all his record collection and told some good stories about his band playing days. Buck will be missed and Bakersfield was honored to have him as a "native" son. Buck, enjoy singing in heaven and being with all your family that has gone on before and are now enjoying the "reunion" that all us believers look forward to.

i never personally met buck, but whenever i saw him whether it was on t.v or in person I could see that he had a smile on his face. He touched many peoples lives.I guess it was a good thing that he was laid to rest. It was probably a blessing in disguise. I didn't get to go to the funeral but I watched it on t.v. I t was cool to see everybody that came for his passing. I lived right across the street from the funeral. it was one of the saddest funerals I have ever been to. BUCK WAS A GREAT MAN!! HIS MUSIC WAS PLAYED DAILY IN OUR HOME. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED AND WE WILL ONE DAY SEE HIM AGAIN!! MAY HE REST IN PEACE...
April 02, 2006
I met Buck many years ago through my wife’s dearest friend, Jennifer Owens, Buck’s former wife. Through the friendship, we had many memorable opportunities like being their guests at Buck’s New Years Parties, the grand opening of the Crystal Palace, Buck’s Birthday Parties and many others. I’ll always remember being at the Palace with Buck singing and me dancing with my wife (who loves to dance) and Jennifer right in front of the stage. Whenever we would start to set down, Buck would always say; “Ken, you sure got a wild thing there” and I would always look back, smile and wave; acknowledging the fact I understood my wife was a little wild on the dance floor. One of our nights at the Palace, we had all our family there for a birthday and my granddaughter, Jordan, who loves to dance, was dancing with me on the dance floor. It was very crowded as usual and all of a sudden we had a large clear area around us. I then noticed that we had five security guards around us clearing an area for us to dance. I looked at Buck and he was smiling and nodded his head to let me know he had taken care of it, I later thanked him.

But my favorite store does not involve the “famous” Buck Owens; but rather, just the man he was. My wife showed horses with Jennifer and once in a while Buck would stop by for a short time to watch. On one such occasion, I was standing along the railing watching when Buck walked up about 20 feet from me, he stayed about 30 minutes and then left. Later that evening, my home phone range and it was Buck. He said he was sorry he hadn’t said hi or come over to talk, but his mind was on something else and he wanted to say he was sorry. Naturally I said it was no big deal and he said goodbye and hung up. I was in shock that he had bothered to call!

My wife and I were talking about Buck’s passing and the fact we had lost two friends. My wife lost her best friend Jennifer when her and Buck separated and Jennifer moved away and now Buck, who had entertained us on so many occasions. God Bless you Buck and your family.

Being a lifetime resident of the midwest, I never made it to Bakersfield but thanks to Buck I was transported there and to the clubs and "got to know him and the area". He was not only a great ambassador for pure country music but for Bakersfield and California itself. I fell under the spell of his music in 1963 and he never fell out of favor with me. For all of that and more I'm grateful to him and extend my best to his family and at this time feel as though I was a part of his "extended family". Thanks Buck.
April 02, 2006

Buck Owens was my boss 20 years ago when I sold advertising for the Kern Shopper. He was my favorie employer because he was the most fair person I have ever met. He always worked very hard and only expected the same from the people who worked for him. You could never show up late because he was always on time. Sometimes I would think, Buck don't you have a meeting somewhere. I have thought of him often throughout the years. "Little Buck A Roo" which I used to call him, I will miss you soo. My personal condolences to Johnny your son and Mel your nephew, who I worked with personally. My heart goes out to everyone who loved you. You will be greatly missed. I will never forget you Buck.

April 01, 2006
Buck's family and my family lived down the street from each other as we were growing up in Mesa. He was always walking down the street singing and picking his old guitar. He would compete on a amatuer show on the old KTYL radio station and my Mom would always vote for him as he had asked her to. He was a tall, sandy-haired, good-looking boy and everyone loved to hear him singing as he walked up and down the street. He didn't care who heard him as long as he could sing! I am glad to have those memories of Buck Owens....he is truly a country legend.
My condolences to his family from a childhood friend.

My co-workers and I from Daniells Phillips Vaughan & Bock, CPAs, were on a scavenger hunt last May and one of the many things we needed was a picture taken with a famous person. Guess what? Our stop at the Crystal Palace, in the middle of the afternoon, was that winning shot. He graciously posed with our group and said "take another one, in case it didn't come out". Needless to say our group won the scavenger hunt. The article showed up in the Fresno Bee on May 22, 2005. Thank you and you will be missed, Mr. Owens.

WE'LL MISS YOU BUCK.
March 31, 2006
I was raised in Mesa, Arizona and when Buck,s first record came out I learned from my parents that he had lived there. My folks said they use to sit in the car and watch Buck and Bonnie broadcast live at a radio station in Mesa.
In Vegas I met my wife and she told me she was from Bakersfield. I told her Buck lived in Mesa first. She topped that by telling me she personally knew Buck. A few years ago we lived in Bakersfield and Im sorry I never drove the few miles to his Crystal Palace and had my own chance to experience Buck. I always felt I would see him before I died. Buck, we will meet someday. Rest in peace.

Like millions of others, I was a big, big fan of Buck Owens. He sang country music like no other; and his presence on the music scene will long be enjoyed and never forgotten. While I loved all of his music, "Together Again" will always be a favorite of ALL country songs. He sang it with such emotion.

Some of my most treasured memories of childhood visits to Gramma and Grampa's little farm off of Gosford Road, were churning butter in front of the TV while watching Hee Haw with Grampa Jesse. And now my granddaughter Sierra (who isn't even 2 years old) loves to dance to the "Streets of Bakersfield". Buck Owens has touched the lives of generations with his music. God Bless you, Buck Owens. You will be remembered...

To the Buck Owen's Family, personal and business. What can I say that hasn't already been said about such a wonderful man. I cant think of a better human being that was so caring and giving. I am blessed to have been born and raised here in Bakersfield and have seen all the wonderful things Buck has done for our town. One of my fondest memories was going to Casa Moore furniture as a child with my mom and seeing Buck there, wow I thought, a real star !!! Thats the man from Hee Haw !!! The greatest thing about him is he would never miss a chance to say hello to anyone and was so kind to us. If one doesn't know him all they have to do is read over all the wonderful entries into this guest book and you can see what a truely wonderful man he was. Bless all of you and keep the Crystal Palace alive and singing just as he would want.
Born & Raised in Bakerspatch !!!
March 31, 2006
Even though we have been to several concerts at the Crystal Palace to see Buck and other country stars play, we will always remember our very first visit to the Palace. It was our 20th wedding anniversary (8 years ago). We requested a song to be played, and when Buck when on stage that night it was so exciting to see him, "The Legend" himself. But, we were caught off guard when we heard him say our names and that we were celebrating our anniversary and he thanked us for spending it with him ... we really thought he would just sing the song we requested, but, it was more of a surprise to us, when he thanked us personally for celebrating our anniversary with him and he made our night more special ... that is our memory we will always cherish.
March 31, 2006
I have been a Buck Owens fan since his first early recordings. I just LOVED Buck's music. I have all the old records and CDs of the greatest hits of Buck Owens. His death is a great loss to all country music fans. My sympathy goes out to his entire family.

March 31, 2006
Buck was an idol to me before he hired me to join the Buckaroos. Buck became even more an idol after standing on the stage beside him, feeling the power, the energy, the electricity and the harmony. The music was much more alive than your country music shows and the man behind it was everything and more what had ever been reported around the world. I had the highest respect for Buck. He never needed a drink or drugs to go on stage, do a television show, do a rehearsal or a recording session. The only time I ever saw the man in pain was the death of Don Rich, guitarist and leader of the Buckaroos. Buck loved his fans and he gave his all in a performance whether it was a hundred people or 10,000.
Buck made me part of his music that is an era in history. I just want to say good-by and say thanks Buck for making my dream a reality.
So long my friend. I will miss you.

I remember Buck Owens on the radio. I bought my mom and dad several records when I was growing up. When we moved to Bakersfield in the late 60's, we were so happy to find out that Buck Owens lived there, too. Toys for Tots, the Rodeo, Kuzz Radio. All have a place in the hearts, of my mother, my grown children, and I. We send our heart felt sympathy to the Owens family.
March 30, 2006
My thoughts and prayers go out to Buck's family. I know we can all take comfort in kowing that he is in a better place. But we will sure miss him down here. Buck was a man to be looked up to and I admired him immensely.
March 30, 2006
My first memory of Buck Owens was sitting on the floor of my grandmother's house watching Hee-Haw with her. I was only 11 years old...but even at that young age, I knew he was the star of the show! His persona and warm smile left a lifelong impression with me. He will truly be missed. I pray that peace and love overflow your home and families during this time. God Bless you all.

To the Owens Family:

Deepest Sympathy for your loss. He will be missed by the country music listeners all over the country but especially by those in Bakersfield. We are glad that we got to hear him at the Crystal Palace for an early anniversary celebration in 2001. You have your memories and may they help you as you grieve for your loved one.
March 30, 2006
Buck,
I want to thank you for all of the memories as a child "so long ago." Our families would always go to Hart Park when you played on the bandstand out there. Us kids would dance and sing and you and the band would wink at us and we would get so giddy. It's a shame we can't do those things anymore without trouble. You will be greatly missed but you left us with such great memories over the years. May you rest in peace and get the music started and the dance floor cleared for our visit when the time comes. God Bless You!
March 30, 2006
Born and raised in Kern County, I am now a resident of Colorado. I can't remember NOT remembering Buck Owens and his music while living in Kern County. He was such a fixture of Bakersfield. He brought respect to our hometown. I last saw Buck on the evening of June 16, 1995, at the Kern County Fairgrounds when he and Merle did their "reunion concert". It was billed "Together Again". What a night for country music. I will never forget.
March 30, 2006
I was raised on Bucks music, my favorite one was Tiger by the tail. Our sympathy and prayers go out to the family. Buck you are gone but will never be forgotten. Ken and Lori Lowe
March 30, 2006
Buck was the man! I still remember the Buck Owens Rodeo in the early 80's and seeing Buck, Merle, and Bonnie onstage at the Rodeo Dance afterwards. What great times the rodeo and dances were! Unlike many celebrities who make it big and leave, Buck never forgot his adopted hometown. He helped bring music (and radio) to our town and let the world know that, "You say you care less how I feel...how many of you have ever walked the Streets of Bakersfield!"
Thanks for the memories, Buck; we'll all miss you!
March 30, 2006
Bucks the man forever!

The contributions Buck Owens has made to country music are remembered. Over the years when people would ask where is Bakersfield, (my birthplace) I would give locational information and then would ask if they knew Buck Owens. That helped a lot! Thanks Buck for helping put Bakersfield on the map and for your contriubtions to helping African-Americans (like me) appreciate country-western music. YES - we listened to KUZZ, and watched Hee Haw in Bakersfield while growing up. At 57, I continue to be a country music Fan.

I grew up listening to and loving all Buck Owens music. I can't believe he is gone. Sympathy and best wishes to the family of a Legend.
March 29, 2006
I FIRST MET BUCK AND BONNIE WHEN THEY WERE PLAYING AND SINGING WITH FUZZY OWENS AT THE SAD SAK ON EDISON HWY. IN 1953. I ALWAYS ENJOYED DANCING TO THEIR MUSIC. IT SEEMED LIKE BAKERSFIELD HAD LOST ITS' TRUE MEANING OF COUNTRY WHEN THE BLACKBOARD, LUCKY SPOT AND SAD SAK CLOSED THEIR DOORS. BUCK AND HIS COUSIN, FUZZY OWENS WERE SUCH A LARGE PART OF THESE PLACES. BUCK WILL BE MISSED BY MANY. HE DID SO MUCH FOR OUR COMMUNITY OVER THE YEARS. HE TRULY EARNED A STREET NAMED FOR HIM (BUCK OWENS BLVD.)TO MY KNOWLEDGE HE WAS THE ONLY ENTERTAINER FROM BAKERSFIELD WHO REALLY WORKED FOR HIS TOWN.
TO THE FAMILY OF BUCK, I SEND MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND BUCK, YOU WERE, IN MY BOOKS, "ONE OF A KIND" IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE.
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.

The past two Octobers (2004 & 2005), our family celebrated my dad's 86th & 87th birthdays listening to Buck sing and joke at The Crystal Palace. What a treat that was! Just last month my dad was asking "When are we going to go see Buck again?" It was with great sadness and a heavy heart that I called my dad early last Saturday morning to say that Buck had passed on. My husband and I listened to KUZZ radio all day Saturday and Sunday, enjoying Buck's music and listening to peoples' stories about him. What a character! And what a talented and gracious man he was! God bless you, Buck, and God bless your family and friends as they mourn. You were truly One-Of-A-Kind and I will treasure your music forever!
March 29, 2006

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the Owens family and staff. Buck Owens is truly a legend and he will be missed by a countless number of lives he's touched. I am one of the fortunate to have grown-up listening to his music and watching him on TV as well as watching him perform live. His pride and generosity for his community is something we can all emulate. Thanks Buck for all the memories and for giving us KUZZ and the Krystal Palace for all of us to enjoy and I will remember you always!

The Bakersfield Sound. I didn't know what that meant growing up listening to rock. I didn't appreciate it until I saw Buck Owens live at The Crystal Palace. Not a fan untill then and I became one in an instant. The Bakersfield Sound had to be experienced live.We will miss Him and his live music.God Bless his family and friends in this time of sorrow, and God bless Buck Owens.
March 29, 2006
For several years my office was next to Buck's on Cheter Avenue. I remember the music I use to hear through the walls when they were practicing. One day a lady ran though the parking lot outside my office heading for Buck's office and I realized it was Susan Ray (Wiggins). At Meadows Field Buck had a small airplane that had his logo on the tail.

Buck use to run his Toy for Tots every Christmas, one unwrapped toy, one admission to his concerts. Buck was really dedicated to the city.

I no longer live in Bakersfield, but the loss of: The Blackboard, The Bakersfield Outlook Conference, Mesa Marin, and Buck Owens reinforces the adage, You Can Never Go Back.

Goodbye Buck, I enjoyed your performances at The Crystal Palace and the Kern County Fair.

Buck, I first got to see you and the Buckaroos in Chicago and grew to love your work. You and the Buckaroos worked as one. In 2001 I was blessed with meeting you at the Crystal Palace and giving you an autographed picture of Don and an album where all the Buckaroos had signed it. You were gracious enough to meet me and my family and take pictures with us. Thanks Buck for great memories and you and Don are surley rippin it up on those telecasters now.

Prayers to the Owens family they have lost a great person. But have happy memories which they will treasure.

BUCK YOU ARE THE GREATEST
You inspired me to go into radio. In 1968 I went to The Buck Owens concert in Fresno put on by KMAKe 1340 AM, I became hooked on Country Music.

I became a radio owner in 1990. I was able to acquire KMAK call letters. I called your sister Dorothy Owens often, who was very helpful and I enjoyed The Family Very Much.

Your Beautiful Songs Will Live On. You Will Be Greatly MISSED.

GOD BLESS YOU

I was so saddened to hear about the loss of Buck Owens. I was born and raised in Bakersfield until after graduating from Standard School which was across the street from Buck's recording studio. I moved to Atascadero about 7 yrs. ago but still have family and friends in Bakersfield. After the Crystal Palace was opened I went there whenever possible for some of the best "chicken fried steak" I've ever eaten. A few of those times were on a Friday night when Buck was doing his show. I had it in my head that all "stars" were probably stand-offish but to my delight and surprise Buck was the most down to earth man you'd ever want to meet and his shows were great. He will be missed greatly.
March 28, 2006
I first met Buck Owens when I was about 6 yrs old. Buck and his band were playing at the Windmill Grange in Puyallup, WA.
My father would visit with Buck Owens at KAYE Radio station where Buck was once a DJ. As I was growing up I would listen to Buck's music with my Dad. It was a BIG loss when Don Rich was taken from us in 1974.
My Father passed away in 1994, I know he will be there when Don & Buck are.."Together Again".
March 28, 2006

Don was there to meet you wasn't he. You're playing together again. We both equally missed Don and now I will miss both of you. Thanks for the memories.
March 28, 2006
I grew up listening to country music because of my parents. When rock & roll came along that's what I listened to. I got my first guitar when I was 8. I tried to play rock & roll, but the first time I heard Buck Owens I fell in love with his sound. It was the best of the rockabilly sound. I spent hours & hours trying to play the Buck Owens sound.Buck Owens influenced my music as well as thousands of others. Buck was one of the pioneers of American music as we know it today. When I'm asked where I learned to play those hot licks, I always tell them, listen to a Buck Owens song. I think the Lord wanted to hear Buck and Don Rich sing and play together again. God Bless Buck Owens! An American original!

March 28, 2006
Buck Owens? Bakersfield? SYNONYMOUS! I grew up in Bakersfield in the 1950's and remember the days when Buck lived in the neighborhood and could regularly be seen at the corner grocery store. I recall the days when he was a beginner in the country music profession. I have learned in later years to appreciate his music. People in other locales always associate Buck Owens with Bakersfield. He loved the town and was a great asset. He will be greatly missed.
March 28, 2006
Buck, it was YOU and The Buckaroos that turned me on to country music in a big way in the late 60's. Your "Live At Carnegie Hall" album was the first country music I bought as a teenager. Before that I was a Beatles & Stones fan. Your music hit a nerve in me that still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up to this day. You and Don Rich sang some of the sweetest harmonies on earth. Now the two of you are finally "Together Again". I saw you LIVE one time, at The Reo Palm Isle in Longview, Texas in the early 70's. I'll never forget you or your music..because we'll always have your music.

I am sending my prayers to your family & other loved ones. I, like so many, grew up watching Cousin Herb Henson's show, listening to your "real" music, and always loving Hee Haw. You are already missed, but your songs, the Crystal Palace, and your legacy will always be here for all to enjoy. Hope you are hangin' with Waylon, Johnny, Bob Wills, Buddy, and all of the other great musicians there in Heaven.

March 28, 2006
Country Music has lost a true pioneer and a truly gifted singer and songwriter. If it hadn't been for Buck and Merle Haggard, alot of these up and coming country artist would still be doing things "Nashville's way". Instead of doing their own music, their own way. The way Buck and Merle did by creating the "Bakersfield Sound." God saw that he was tired and needed a rest, he broke our hearts to prove He only takes the best.

Thank you Buck for all you've given to country music. Thank you for bringing two of the best female singers along with you, Bonnie Owens and Susan Raye.

God keep you safe in His Tender Loving Care :..(
March 28, 2006
May God comfort your family as you grieve the loss of one so loved, by so many. Your husband, father, confidant, side-kick; acquaintance to many, and friend of more, has left an indelible mark that cannot be forgotten. He was generous, cordial, humorous, and knew first-hand how it felt to start from scratch. Through his nephew, Mel, I met Buck only a couple of times. While he was in Nashville, Mel asked me to go hang a ceiling fan in his office at KUZZ as a surprise for Buck. When he returned, I was not present for his reaction, but did receive a call. He said, “You two pulled a fast one, didn’t ya? I ‘ppreciate it.” The last time I saw Buck was at the Marketplace when we were there to support Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor. As I stood with the baby on my shoulders, Buck stood about 3 feet away. I said hello to him, and to my surprise, he recognized me, called me by name, and made a gracious comment about my appearance, and how not much had changed in the last 20 years- Now how great is that? (I knew he was lying, but appreciated it nonetheless.) Buck had a love of the community that should be an example for all of us to follow. No matter how much you have, or how much you haven’t got- there is always something you can do for your fellow man. He entertained us, he helped us, and he cared about us. We appreciate his contributions while he walked his path- he didn’t just talk it- he walked it well. We will miss him a bunch.
March 28, 2006
Thank you Buck Owens for the music may your soul rest in peace. God bless you.

It was sad to hear of Buck's passing. I've been a fan for a long time. When I was in the Air Force stationed at Vandenberg AFB, California, back in the very early sixties wherever Buck was playing. Buck played at the Vandenberg AFB NCO club several times and brough a great deal of enjoyment to all the Airman at Vandenburg (it was always a packed house). I still have a copy of "Loves Gonna Live Here" that Buck singed for me. I will treasure this record and all the great times I had watching and listening to Buck in those younger years and then again much later in life as he lead the Hee Haw TV show. Buck you and your unique style will be forever missed. Thanks for your huge contribution to the country music field and for all the great social things you did for the world.
March 28, 2006
Thank you Buck for putting Bakersfield on the map and making it a respectable place to call home. You will be missed but never forgotten...
March 28, 2006
I just want to thank Buck for taking my grandmother with him. My grandmother, Thelma Robinson, passed away Saturday morning as well. She was born in Texas and moved to Kern County 40+ years ago and truly loved Buck. She was 94 and ready to join her family. Thank you Buck, for riding that great train to heaven with my grandma. I know that she is so excited to be entering the gates of heaven with none other than the "Great Buck Owens". You were and always will be the heart of Bakersfield as my grandmother will always be the heart of our family. Thank you for the many years of entertainment you gave everyone. You'll be forever missed and for my family, we will always be greatful that you accompanied our grandmother to heaven.

Early Saturday morning, I looked out my west-facing living room window and saw that we were having a light rain. But between me and the Sierra Nevada mountains, there was a bright, beautiful rainbow! It was only there for a short time, but I realize now that it was probably your path to Heaven I saw that morning. Rest in everlasting peace, my friend. Thanks for the music of my life.
March 28, 2006
My condolences to Buck Owens family and friends. I remember the first time I saw him in a ballroom in Oklahoma City, OK. It was in the early 70's. My father took me. I was so excited. March 28, 2006
I have many memories of Buck. Growing up my parents were always playing his music and had many times watched him at the Blackboard. My dad was a huge Hee Haw fan. I remember the first time I saw Buck at the Palace boy that brought back memories. My mom and dad have also passed. I was also there at the Palace on Friday night I had brought my Aunt and Uncle to see Buck. I wanted to cry when he came out on stage you could tell he was not well but that didn't matter to him he wanted to please all the people that had come to see him. I will forever remember that night.

Tony and I are so sad. Buck sang "Happy Birthday" to Tony on his 50th at 6 am at Seven Oaks Country Club, a memory that will stay with him forever, I walked by Buck while working at the Tam O' Shanter, years ago and said, "Hey, Any one ever tell you, you look like BUCK OWENS??" He grabbed my hand and said, NO, (with a twinkle in his eye), but you look like Margaret Lemucchi...LOVE that man. SO GIVING AND NEVER ASKED FOR ANYTHING IN RETURN. REST IN PEACE, OUR FRIEND, You will be part of the GREAT CHOIR NOW!! XX

We will miss Buck a lot,we drove to Bakersfield to see him a couple of times. We will always cherish the memories. My sister was a close friend of Buck.
March 28, 2006
I first remember Buck Owens when he was doing live broadcasts on TV back in the mid-fifties; all three local TV stations had live country-western shows on in the early evening: Buck, Cousin Herb Henson, that new kid Merle Haggard, Jimmy Thomason, Billy Mize and many others. Too bad I didn't appreciate how good they were and how privileged we Bakersfield TV viewers were to have them all on LIVE. I next ran across Buck in 1967 when I was living in Reno and he and the Buckaroos played Centennial Coliseum. I was amazed at what a great sound they had and how much showmanship they displayed. I'll always be a kid from Bakersfield and I'll always be proud that Buck and I came from the same place. He was a class act!
March 28, 2006
I lived in Bakersfield and Oildale from the mid 50's to the early 90's and every evening in our house the "Country Cousin Herb" show was on our television. There was Buck singing like only he could. Buck was Bakersfield and Bakersfield was Buck. Thank you Buck - you will be missed.
March 28, 2006
Lived in bakersfield all my life, recently moved to texas and the first thing people ask me when they find out I'm from bakersfield is
Do you know Buck? He will be greatly missed.
March 28, 2006
I remember meeting Mr Owens many years ago when his studio was in the old River Theatre building. My Dad and Mom owned the Fosters Freeze on No. Chester and many times I had the privledge of making a burger for him or his staff. What a kind man he was, a real asset to this town and will be dearly missed by all.

We will probably still visit, but it won't feel the same the same without Buck. Our prayers are with his family.

I am so deeply saddened by our loss of this legend. Having grown up in Taft and watching Buck on The Ranch and then Hee Hawe every Sat evening was a great part of my childhood. Then when I grew up I was so very fortunate to be in Kern Co where I could hit the honky tonks in Bkfld and enjoy every bit of the Bakersfield Sound. Thank you for that gift Buck. Sure wish I could have been at Trouts last night to share the memories and tell stories with all of your friends. Get Well soon RED.

Our family listened and watched Buck for many years. I was honored to meet him after he got his honorary diploma at Bakersfield College. I was "Band Mom" for 20 years for the kids there and remember Buck's surprise when they played "Tiger by the Tail" for him. Our friend Jim Young introduced me to Buck and he was very kind to me. My daughter Ann and I worked on the signs for the Crystal Palace with Jill Thayer and others. What a fun time. And Steve Gradowitz and I had a good laugh over the "Buckmobile" during our show at the Potato Bowl. Buck was a good friend to the music kids at BC and those of us who worked with them will always be greatful for his help. Thanks Buck for all the years of music you gave to this world, may you keep on playing and singing in the "Great Beyond".

Buck Owens has been a huge part of my life for many years. I grew up with his music and with Hee Haw. I can't remember not knowing many of his songs. I remember when he started building the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, and thinking that I would have to get there someday. Well, that someday came a few years back for me. I got to see Buck Owens live in concert just once, but I will always remember the show. His music showplace (The Crystal Palace) has been a favorite place to go for good food and great entertainment, and I've been lucky enough to see Brad Paisley there twice and Ricky Skaggs once. I've been there for countless Sunday Brunches! I'll always remember Buck Owens and his Crystal Palace with the fondest of memories. He made such wonderful contributions to Bakersfield and all of Kern County, as well as many other parts of the world through his radio stations, and through his live broadcast of his weekend shows. I have been fortunate to live close enough to hear his program on the radio many times. I will miss hearing Buck and the Buckaroos on Friday and Saturday nights. God Bless Buck's family, friends and those who worked with and for him. We miss you, Buck!

When ever you said the word Bakersfield 2 words always seemed to follow, Buck Owens.I grew up in Bakersfield and one of my most treasured memories that i have as a child was the smell of coffee brewing, cigarette smoke, and the radio on to KUZZ.Every morning my parents would be sitting at the kitchen table listening to country music while we got ready for school.I will always cherish those day's when we would drive down north chester ave. and see this big white cadillac sitting outside Buck's studio with these big horns on the front of this car. That car to me was something else and i was so happy when i saw it in displayed in the wall behind the bar at the Crystal Palace.I'm so touched that this man brought joy to my family sitting in front of the television watching HEE HAW with my beloved parents...THANKS BUCK WE WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU

The world has lost wonderful person in the passing of Buck Owens. I've lived in Bakersfield for the past 20 years and I could go on and on about all of the charitable, generous contributions he has made.
I ran into Buck one day about 10 years ago at a golf driving range just outside of town. It was a warm day and he and I were the only people hitting balls. Of course I recognized him, said hello, and continued to hit balls. We finished about the same time and as we were loading our golf bags into our cars I made a point of letting him know how much I appreciated the way he ran his radio stations. A week or so earlier one of his disc jockeys was let go for using foul language on the air. We must have stood there for an hour at the trunks of our cars and talked about a alot of different things. He was so genuine and nice. I will always remember and cherish our shared hour together. Thanks Buck, may you rest in peace.

Buck was my favorite Country Star. Many years ago, 1971, my daughter - who was a baby - and I would listen to his records in the middle of the night when it was my turn to take care of her. Often they would find us in the morning, sitting on the rocker both asleep and Buck still singing for us. Recently, we had the opportunity to visit Bakersfield and The Crystal Palace was high on our list to visit. We spent Mother's Day, 2005, there with our daughter - now married to a fine young man from Bakersfield - and his parents and some of their relatives. Thanks for the memory, Buck
March 27, 2006

Both my parents and grandparents were residents of Bakersfield, I lived there as a child until 1945. I returned to Bakersfield in 1962, teaching in the public schools until 1968...part of my best memories of that period was Buck Owens and his band. Seems Buck Owens was Bakersfield for so many years. His contributions to country music and to his adopted hometown of Bakersfield will always be remembered.
March 27, 2006

I will never forget when Buck allowed my Dad a "personal" meeting at the Crystal Palace, just before he went completely blind. My Dad was overjoyed. Buck looked at my Dad and I and said to me "you have your Dad's eyes". I will cherish that special Moment forever. Thank you BUCK! God Bless you!

I AM THINKING BIG WHITE CADILLAC CONVERTIBLE WITH HORNS ON THE FRONT OF THE HOOD AND ONE OF THE FINEST MEN IN TOWN (BUCK OWENS) DRIVING THE EYE CATCHER THROUGH THE STREETS OF BAKERSFIELD (THIS BACK IN THE LATE 60'S EARLY 70'S) ALWAYS SMILING AND ALWAYS JUST AS FRIENDLY HAS HE COULD BE.

LOVE THE CRYSTAL PALACE - THE ENTERTAINMENT AND DELICIOUS FOOD.

BUCK YOU DONE GOOD.

YOU WILL BE MISSED.

March 27, 2006
I last saw Buck when he came into a gallery where I worked as assistant director in Los Olivos, CA. We had celebs drop in from time to time, but this was very special for me as I was born, raised, and lived in Bakersfield until my early 20s.

As Buck strolled through the door accompanied by a female friend, I felt my usual composure dwindle as I said hello in some state of awe. I knew he could tell that I had recognized him, as I felt a blush from my somewhat lack of professionalism. He seemed pleased though as his voice boomed in the space and he said, " Oh, it looks like we have found another one." I smiled & welcomed them.

He walked up to my desk and said something like, " You know who I am don't you." I said I did & proceeded to tell him that I remembered our family ritual of watching Cousin Herb's Trading Post each evening, just as Dad had finished reading his paper & that of course that was in the days of Black & White TV.

He smiled his wide grin & asked how long it had been since I had left Bakersfield. We chatted about how much it had changed, that I still visited family from time to time.

I also shared how much KUZZ AM had meant in my caretaking of my mom who had since passed, although she had alzheimers, when I tuned into the his Fri or Sat. nite performances she would tap her fingers to the music that was so very familiar to her.

He smiled and asked if I had ever been to one of his performances. I explained that I worked most weekends so I had not. Then somehow we started to chat about Los Olivos and the Santa Ynez Valley, the horses, that brought a twinkle to his eye. He said he loved the cutting horses. I said I loved the competitions they had locally from time to time and as well the wild horse competitions. At that point I felt I had taken enough of his time and told him I hoped he would enjoy the gallery. He thanked me for the visit and went to view the space with his lady friend.

When he was ready to leave he approached my desk once again. He said, "What is your name?" I said, "Chaney". He said, "Chaney, you be listening tonite when I do my performance back in Bakersfield and I will play a song just for you. Next time I am back in town, I will come to see you and you tell me whose song it was and the name, ok?" I was grinning one of those silly, I can't believe this is happening grins & thanked him. Wishing them safe travels, I watched them walk down the sidewalk.

Yes I listened that night at a BBQ in the gallery garden, on a radio belonging to the town's resident silversmith. I said," Vern, I could go to my car to listen for this, but do you have a radio? After requesting that he not say anything to the guests, he tuned it in for me. Naturally, cowboy Vern couldn't resist and blurted out, "Buck Owens just dedicated this song to Chaney!" Yes, my face was red, but in this sureal moment, I gathered my wits enough to know it was a George Jones song, but I couldn't hear nor remember the title. But I loved this incredible gesture from a man who loved pleasing his public,no matter who you were. Sorry I didn't get the title Buck, but many many thanks. I pray God has you in his band.

This is a sad time for true traditional country music fans. Buck was one of the best. I am so glad that we made a trip to see Buck for the first time June of last year at his Palace. I do hope that Buddy A. will keep his fathers memory going
I know that the day he died was a glorious day for Don Rich. They are making good country music in Heaven now!!!! To bad we won't hear it.

Saturday, the Honky Tonk genre lost a great piece of its soul. Thank you Dwight Yoakam for helping me to learn more about Buck Owens than just Hee Haw which I grew up on. I hope you sang Dixie as he died! In honor of Buck, I've listened to your music all day today. Deepest sympathies!
March 27, 2006
Buck was one of the greatest influences of my childhood. In 1962, Buck played the grand opening of my local TG&Y in Oklahoma City and had me interested in his music. I tell people he was the first celebrity I ever met in person. He was a really great guy that I enjoy listening to even today.

My heart grieves. To all the Owens family, I express my sympathy. A great entertainer and a man who had a lasting impact is gone, but not forgotten.
March 27, 2006
From the good days at Kingsburg on Sunday afternoons when I was just a litte girl listening and watching all of the gang singing and wanting to someday be a singer too.I did too..But Buck made it really big. Always a down to earth man of Bakersfield.
Beautiful and fun Crystal Palace.
My Thoughts and Prayers to all of the family will continue,
God Bless,
Carolyn

I grew up listening to Buck Owens and Hank Sr. They were a couple of my dad's favorites. I grew up country when country wasn't cool for us teenagers but I didn't care. Buck is in a better place now. May the Lord bless his family and friends as they deal with this loss.
March 27, 2006
I can't believe Buck has passed away, just let's me know how old I really am.

Believe it or not, my mom was on Hee Haw a couple of times, but her first appearance was on "Marty Robbins" first square dance show that came on every sunday morning around here where I grew up: Smyrna, TN.

Of course, I lost my mom to cancer back in 1986, you'd think by now, they would have better success in containing the cancer completely. Maybe, by the time my 3 boys are grown, they will.

GOD BLESS THE OWENS FAMILY - YOU ALL WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART AND GOD'S EYES AND LOVING ARMS!

EAW

I am a black man who became a fan of Mr. Owens in 1966 while stationed at Oxnard AFB, Ca. My co-worker, a white man in his fifties, had his radio permanently tuned to Mr. Owens' radio station in Bakersfield. I remember hearing songs by Mr. Owens which stuck in my head long after the record finished playing. There is something about those songs which reminded me of the ones I grew up listening to during the fifties by artists like Little Jimmie Dickens, Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Earnest Tubb, and others whose music has stood the test of time.

One thing about the music of Mr. Owens is the sincerity and honesty that are present in all their recordings. These are qualities which can't be faked. It comes from the heart, and, it is consistent. Above all, Mr. Owens was a stylist. In the world of entertainment, stylists will always be the main factor to separate the followers from the leaders.

Like George Jones, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and, Louis Armstrong, Mr. Owens laid down some footprints which no one can ever step into and fill.

As Ray Charles, once said, “There is only two kinds of music; Good and Bad.”

Mr. “Buck” Owens’ music is all good!
March 26, 2006
I send the deepest feelings of remorse to Mr. Owens family. The world is at a lost with the passing of Buck Owens. He was such a part of my younger years. Anytime I would go into my father's repair shop, he would always have one of Buck Owens' 45 playing while he was fixing the record players. He was a big hit for my family and kinda a sore thumb for my Uncle J.B.; back in the '60's my Uncle could have passed for Buck Owens' double. He was all the time being hit on for autographs and even slapped for being with my Aunt instead of 'Buck's wife'. He was called a two timer. My uncle had to take his wallet out to show his I.D. to her so she would leave him alone. We all thought it was funny, except him and a very embarress lady.
Buck Owens will truly be missed in the entertainment field and for all his loyal fans. He was truly an Icon in the Country Music field.
with heartfelt feelings, J.Dixon

Dear Owens Family,
My two olders brothers knew Buck when he was a young boy went to school with him and played ball on the street, his family lived down the street from us on potomic st, way back in the 1940's here in Bakersfield, Ca. I Penny M. Potter, use to work for Buck Owens there in Bakersfield, CA., back in the year of 89 to 90. I had just got out of High School there at North High. :) I've always loved country music and was born there in Bakersfield. Yes I've met Buck Owens at least a couple of times. :) I've always thought he was very nice and very down to earth kind of guy. I also know and been to the Buck Owens Crystal Palace, and I've been in the Buck Owens Production Office many times as well. I've been living up here in Washington, now for about 13 years. However though I do go down there every chance I get to see family and friends.

Buck you are now with God, and in peace. Hope to meet you again in a much better place. God Bless you and your family.

Sincerely: Penny M. Potter

My favorlite story about Buck Owens was when he visited our little city and performed a benefit for some worthy cause.

My Friend Nova Nash, A PR man for the local bank, was given the job of driving Buck from and to the airport. After the show they were to ride back to the airport with hizzoner the mayor. Others would drive the band and equipment in different vehicles.

Buck gave his usual great performance and when he finished, he beat it to the car. My friend said that he had to wait on the Mayor. Buck said go, go, go!!! They did and the Mayor didn't. He learned a lesson. Ole Buck was not impressed with nobility.
March 26, 2006

March 26, 2006
It is nice to see so many people signing Bucks legacy just from Bakersfield. He touched so many local lives here with his singing and his special contabutions to so many charities. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of Buck's family and also to all his very close friends which were many. Buck was such a down to earth person that cared about all people everywhere in the world and especially in his hometown here in Bakersfield.
Keep that "PICKING AND A GRINNING" going up there, Buck.
REST IN PEACE!
March 26, 2006
What can you say but one of our own made it big and never forgot of the people that put him there. Buck was as humble a man as you could expect. A story of that includes my best friend's dad, locally famous Foothil High Track coach Ted Oliver, and just as locally famous Foothill High Football coach Ned Permenter which happened about 18 years ago. Both Ned and Ted are big country music fans and are quite capable guitar players with Ned's favorite country musician being, of course, Buck Owens. The two of them were entered in a Foothill High talent show where they played Buck Owen's songs. The two of them started playing and all of the sudden the crowd started cheering widely. The two of them thought, "Hey! We're actually doing pretty good here!" Unbeknowst to them Buck Owens himself was on stage behind them enticing the crowd to cheer them on! Ted happened to see Buck and did a double-take and when Ned turned to see what was going on it was like a kid meeting Santa Claus for the first time, he was speechless, which is really saying something with Ned. Buck then led them in some of his hits and left everyone with some great memories. Every thing Buck has done locally has been with a heart of gold always with the concern of the common folks that he once was and really never stopped being. From checking in on his neighbors in Famoso near his Poso Creek ranch to donating his time to raise money for local baseball fields, he always was one of us. Thank God for people like Buck Owens.
March 26, 2006
Buck Owen,s was alway,s a favorite of mine from the opery and Hee Haw.
March 26, 2006
Nay you always be pickin' and grinnin'
March 26, 2006
I watched Buck as a child on Hee-Haw and to this day miss having a show like that to watch as an adult. In the summer we would snap green beans and watch Buck and Roy and Hee-Hae gang. I listen to his earlier music on my grandmother's records. I may be a baby but I love the old style of country and Buck you were apart of my family too and will be deeply missed.
March 26, 2006

Buck, Thanks for being a part of my life...You will be missed. Thanks for the music...Al
March 26, 2006
Rest in Peace
March 26, 2006
I remember my first Buck Owens album, and the raw electric sound and energy that the man and his band projected. It inspired us to go on in the music business with our own band and try and duplicate that energy. Sometimes it worked for us and we even got close a few times. But there is only one "Buck Owens", and only one "Don Rich". The class in their act, and their dress, and their music has often been imitated, but never duplicated. "Buck", we will miss you, and your great music, but we will always remember you and your brother "Don Rich". Maybe now, you are "Together Again",..Adios, Farewell, Good Luck, So Long,..with all our love,..Your fans and friends,..Bob & Larry.
March 26, 2006
I grew up watching Hee Haw and remember enjoying every show.I can still see him sitting next to Roy Clark singing "im'a pickin and im'a grinnin".His passing will be greatly missed,he was surely one of a kind.

Of all the nice memories I have of Buck and family my favorite was watching Buck cook a live lobster, which grossed me out and it still amazes me that I let him talk me into eating it. Sweet Dreams Buck.
March 26, 2006
Buck was one of a kind. I remember growing up and watching him on Hee Haw. But I think the best memory of him I have is that of a few years ago now when he was at We Fest in Detorit Lakes, MN, and though the crowd was young they loved him, and then later that night him & Dwight sang "Streets of Bakerfield", it was a crowd pleaser and a memory I will always have. Thanks for the memories !!

I remember as a child in the early sixties; Mom & Dad would have friends over on Friday nights to play cards. Buck Owens, Johnny Cash & Marty Robins played all night long on the stereo. He was a wonderful talent of true country.
And a cherished memory of my childhood. God be with his family.

Years ago when we only had three television channels available, my TV was tuned to the local affilate that carried Hee Haw. I had been watching the show broadcast before it, not really being interested in Hee Haw since I was more of a rock music fan. Buck came on singing one of his many hits, and I was hooked by accident. More recently, Dwight Yoakam's cds reminded me how much I liked Buck Owens' music. I recently bought the 4 cd box set. Thanks for the music, Buck.
March 26, 2006

Buck and all he's done for Bakersfield, has made me proud to be a Kern County resident. He was a generous, talented man and he will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and the staff of KUZZ and the Crystal Palace. Rest in Peace Buck!
March 26, 2006
I was one of the on-air personalities for Buck's K-TIE radio stations in the mid 1990's. I loved how he would hang out with me in the studio and tell me stories and jokes while I was on the air. It was surreal. Here I am, essentially nobody, and here he is BUCK OWENS telling me stories like I was his best pal. I couldn't believe I got paid to work for him. What an honor. You will be missed, but the memories will live on.
March 26, 2006

March 26, 2006
I was born in 1951. My mother always had the radio on the Delano station. That's where we first heard Buck. I can remember Buck as far back as I can remember. Then came HEE HAW, my Dad always tuned it in on the tube and we all loved the show, and on to KUZZ. I used to work out by Bucks Ranch home in the 70's. One day there was a big party going on with a lot of Limos, a friend and I tried going in and the guard turned us around and told us we'd have a better chance, if we didn't have Robert's on our pick up doors, we just laughed and went on. Sure would have liked to have seen to inside of that party.
Sorry to say my wife and I have only been to the Crystal Palace once to see Buck and his party. Wish we had gone more.

Rest in peace Mr. Buck Owens

Deepest sympathy to Buck's family, friends and business associates. Prayers' and thoughts' are with the family, friends', and loved ones' in this season of your, lives'. Such wonderful memories of Buck we all share. I fetch from my memories the TOYS FOR TOTS, show. I recall; Buck, Don Rich, Wayne Newton, and Wayne being a very young man, at that time. Such an inspiration; the show was that night, at the Civic Auditorium. My mom bought each of our family a new toy that we presented upon entrance to be a part of that wonderful charity: "Thank's to Buck," and his colleagues'. What a life and he certainly did have one ... "God Bless His," families.

I (Karen) grew up watching Hee Haw on tv with my family, hearing Buck play music and have fun with the rest of the cast. When my dad visited us from out of state, my husband and I made arrangements to take him and our 80 something year old neighbor lady to the Crystal Palace for dinner. We had a truly memorable time that night, because Buck came to our table and visited with my dad about the good ole days. Buck also met us by the entrance and talked with us a bit longer and took a picture with us..a special picture where my dad was truly smiling (a rare thing), because he was happy. I was able to make copies of the picture (from our camera), so my dad, our neighbor and we could all have pictures. Later, I left my pictures at the Crystal Palace and Buck was kind enough to autograph them for me. My dad has been gone for 2 years now and we are thankful for the precious memories we have of the night at Buck's place (as many refer to the Crystal Palace). We are truly sorry for your loss.
We know you must have countless special memories of Buck to keep in your hearts. May our GOD of Comfort hold you in this difficult time and bring you peace and healing. Love in CHRIST,
