There is strong confidence in the fear of Jehovah, and it will be a refuge for his children. Proverbs 14:26. Caitlin Hammaren is missed by all.

As I sit here in The Caitlin M. Hammaren Chorus room empty ready for the summer months I am reminded of the wonderful times shared with so many devoted singers over the past many years. Every note that is sung with spirit and beauty is "Caitlinesque". Every loving chord and structure of a song that shows the emotion of the phrase is sung the way Caitlin would have. I want to thank every student who has ever passed through the doors of Room 219 in Minisink Valley High School. I am here to ensure that Caitlin's memory and spirit effects every person who enters here. Caitlin was lost to us in April 2007, but lives on in all of us for eternity. I will always be her Choir Director and friend.

To John and Suzanne:
I remember Caitlin when she was just a baby, and washing the dishes on her own at age two and riding ponies. I can't imagine what you're going through since that April day when Caitlin was stolen from all of us. May God continue to bless the BOTH of you.

As a father of two beautiful little girls who I hope someday will follow in Caitlin's footsteps I was very saddened when I learned of Caitlin's story and murder at the university. She was such a good person and smart. She had such potential and was destined to be something big in her lifetime. Her light was blown out much to soon and the pain of loosing her in such a horrible fashion makes everything burn that much stronger. I pray that my two daughter's (Emily & Riley) can follow in the same steps has this fine young lady did and use her as an example. I would be honorred if they could achieve half of what Caitlin has been able to accomplish thus far in her life. Words can not express the sadness that our family has for all the victims and their families. We are so sorry for all your loses. Caitlin's loss seems to hold dear to me a bit more because of the similarities in our families. I pray that she is at peace and in her own way making the positive changes wherever she is right now. As a father, I celebrate Caitlin's life with her family but as a parent I share the pain that her parents continue to share each and every day over the loss of their beautiful daughter. May time start to heal the pain and replace the void with healthy memories and perhaps programs established in Caitlin's memory to carry her quest forward by other young accomplished women who can proudly look up to Caitlin as their role model and mentor of what is right and good in this hard world. Caitlin rest in peace and shine your heavenly light down upon us always as I am sure you are the newest angel in heaven. On behalf of the Ford Family we wish you peace and love always.

Dear Marion,

I just heard your interview yesterday on Catholic Connection with Teresa Tomeo (Ave Maria Radio - Ann Arbor, MI). I just wanted you to know how moving it was to hear your testimony concerning your beautiful daughter Caitlin. I wasn't able to jot down your email address, so I did some searching and found this Guest Book. If you aren't already speaking to other people about your experience, I strongly recommend that you do so. You have such an amazing gift of communicating what you have been through. I still don't know how you made it through your story without falling apart. The part of your story that touched me most deeply was when you related how God told you that you would see Caitlin again, but that you would have to go through Him to do so. I just sat at my computer where I happened to be listening online, tears just streaming down my face. What a beautiful gift you have received, to be able to find some peace after such a senseless tragedy.
I just wanted you to know that you and your daughter's story have touched me deeply. I immediately ordered the book "10 Prayers God Always Says Yes To". I'm also ordering a copy of your interview on CD so I can share your story with my family and friends. As the mother of three boys (one in college), I know that life can be challenging, but if you, Marion, can go through what must have been Hell, and come out on the other side with such faith, I feel I should be able to, at the very least, deal with life with a lot less complaining, and lean even more on God for everything my family and I need.
Thanks again for your powerful story.

God Bless you and your husband,
and of course, Caitlin!

Dearest Marian:
I recently read a letter you wrote about the National Day of Prayer - making mention of the book: Ten Prayers God Always Says Yes To. While I have not read it, I am a Charismatic Catholic who is in line with you about God's Awesome Character of Goodness!

I have a son who was injured a year ago (5/22/07) in a diving accident and became a quadriplegic...by the Grace and Mercy and Will of Our Lord Jesus Christ, my son has mobility again! No doubt this was God all the way!

Accept my condolences on the loss of your precious daughter. Be consoled by the fact that She is Your Angel in Heaven now and the Angel to Millions of Others!

Love in Christ, Maria DiGirolamo, Cantonment, FL

I knew Caitlin when she rode at Grey Dawn and I would see her working in Green Valley Tack. I am signing this guestbook now at this late date to let you know that Caitlin touched my life briefly but I will remember her always. She was a special person and had such compassion for people and animals. Truely a tragic loss for the world. She will remain in my thoughts and I hope you find comfort in your memories.
December 29, 2007
I want you to know that I prayed for you and loved ones of Caitlin today. It may be December 29th, but I can only imagine that how Caitlin's death must effect any of you who knew her. I pray for peace and God's guidance as you miss her.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting this lovely young lady, it is clear from everything I have heard and read as we have helped them create the Caitlin M. Hammaren Memorial Foundation from the gifts of many, that she truly was an "angel" on earth. I am humbled and honored to have met Marian and Chris (Caitlin's parents), and Joanne (Caitlin's aunt). They are three of the finest human beings I have ever met, and my thoughts and prayers for strength go out to all of Caitlin's family and friends.

With this small notice of condolence, I'd like to share with everyone a little portion of Caitlin's life that meant alot to others.

I'm Steve. I met Caitlin while at HOBY, which is the Hugh O'Brien Youth leadership conference held in upstate NY every year. We were all 10th graders aspiring to become the leaders of tomorrow's world. Caitlin was certainly on her way there at that point in her life. And one thing I will always remember is that big, bright smile of hers. Everyday, she had one, and you felt as if the smile was just for you, because in turn she would make you smile. Through brief conversations with her and things that were said, I cannot say that there was anything greater than that smile...and for that, I will never forget her.

It's taken this long since Caitlin's passing to finally offer a remembrance of her...because I guess I finally realized that it was her smile all along that could help in remembering everything about Caitlin and her life.

May God and peace be with you, Hammaren family, and I extend my most sincere condolences. God Bless.

Dear Hammaren Family,
I am sorry for your loss. God bless her and her family.
August 24, 2007
Caitlin “is”

Though she has been gone for a little over four months, we can not dwell on Caitlin “was”, but that Caitlin “is”. She is with us, is talked about, is laughed about, and yes, is cried about. Most of all she is remembered. Marian and I would like to thank you all for your kind words of encouragement, your prayers and your condolences. We believe Caitlin would be both honored and humbled, to know that so many thought this highly of her and that there is another little angel named Caitlin out there…Yes, Caitlin “is”.

God bless you,
Marian and Chris

You are the epitomy of Kappa Kappa Gamma. I suppose I still don't undestand that you are no longer with us. You will always however, be my sister. You are missed more than you will ever, ever know.

I was in my final days of pregnancy when the Virginia Tech shootings occurred. I thought about the students and individuals often on the day of the incident and after. One night, I was watching the news and they scrolled the names of the victims. I saw the name Caitlin and your daughter's picture and thought - what a beautiful name for our baby. Our daughter, Caitlin Ann, was born on April 21, 2007. I think of your daughter often and my daughter will one day hear the story of how her name came to be. The legacy of your daughter, in a small way, will live on. I am so sorry for your loss - I cannot even imagine your grief. Love - Jean and Mark L.

To the family of Caitlin

Rest in peace sweet Caitlin

My message of condolence is intentionally delayed to assure you Caitlin's memory will live on in those she touched. I had the priviledge of teaching Caitlin during her third grade school year at Pine Island Elementary School. I will always remember her warm and bubbly personality. Her smile "lit up the room". Her maturity and confidence, at such a young age, could only be the result of being so loved by her special parents. My heart goes out to you, Caitlin's parents, for the tremendous pain you must be feeling each and every second of every day. My wish is for you to somehow feel relief in between the "seconds" ahead. I came across this quote and thought that on this day, Mother's Day, it would be appropriate to send to try to console you, if it may even be for just a "second". A Greek biographer, Plutarch, who counseled his wife nearly 2000 years ago upon the death of their daughter wrote: "My dear wife, since our little daughter afforded all our senses the sweetest and most charming pleasure when she was alive, so ought we now cherish her memory...more to our joy than our grief". Caitlin "afforded my senses with charming pleasure" the year I taught her and I will never forget her. My prayers will remain with you. Sincere sympathy to you both!

Mr. and Mrs. Hammaren,
I had hoped to send you a real sympathy card, but do not want to intrude, so I'll send our family's condolences here. Our daughter was on the first floor of Peddrow-Yates and misses Caitlin terribly. We pray that you will have strength to get through this sorrowful time. We have visited Caitlin's stone at Tech, she continues to have fresh flowers placed there. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest regrets go to your family after the loss of your daughter. I never met Caitlin but I am without a doubt that she was not only a wonderful person but a beautiful woman. It is with my most sincere regrets that I never met this beautiful Kappa. There are people and sisters praying for your family across the nation. May God put his hand on your family and help heal your hearts. Words are not enough, I offer my daily prayers in hopes that you find a little more peace with each passing day. "take this dream and place it in your heart. Keep it there until the time we will meet again"
April 30, 2007
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

To the Hammaren family:
I want to express my condolences in the untimely death of Caitlin. This is a "time to weep," says the Bible (Ecclesiastes 3:1,4), and surely the loss of your daughter brings such a time. Yet through prayer your family will be able to survive this with the wonderful memories of your daughter always in your hearts. Prayer simply makes us feel better and also will provide your family with "power beyond what is normal," (2 Corinthians 4:7). Please be comforted knowing that God's holy spirit, or active force is with you all.

RISE UP SLOWLY, ANGEL

Rise up, slowly, Angel.
I cannot let you go.
Just drift softly midst the faces,
In sorrow now bent low.

Ease the searing anger,
Born in harsh unyielding truth
That Death could steal my loved one
From the glowing blush of youth.

Rise up slowly, Angel.
Do not leave me here alone,
Where the warmth of mortal essence
Lies replaced by cold, hard stone.

Speak to me in breezes
Whispered through the drying leaves,
And caress my brow with raindrops
Filtered by the sheltering trees.

Rise up slowly, Angel,
For I cannot hear the song
Which calls you through the shadows
Into the light beyond.

Wrap me in your downy cape
Of sunshine, warm with love,
And kiss a tear-stained mother's face
With moonlight from above.

Then wait for me at sunset,
Beside the lily pond,
And guide me safely homeward
To your world,which lies beyond.

Just spread your wings and take me
In reunion’s sweet embrace,
And we shall soar, together,
To a different time and place.

To Caitlin's Family & Friends, our prayers are with you. I pray that God will give you strength. The youth at our church are wearing wrist bands with the names of the victims. Each student and adult worker have a different name. We are daily praying for you. Our heart is heavy, may you sense our prayers for you. Gillionville Baptist Youth, Albany, GA
April 30, 2007
To Caitlin's family and friends,
Our heavenly father promises at Isaiah 41:10-"Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not gaze about, for I am your God. I will fortify you. I will really help you. I will really keep fast hold of you with my right hand of righteousness". May you grasp hold of his hand and allow him to guide you through the coming days, months and years.
May you gain comfort from these additional scriptures:
Isaiah 25:8-"He will actually swallow up death forever."
Revelation 21:4-"And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."
My husband was lost on 9/11 and these scriptural promises comfort me greatly.
April 30, 2007
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your loss and grief. May God bless you.
April 29, 2007
To The Hammaren Family-My condolences goes out to you & your family during this difficut time. Know that you can gain strength and comfort from God's word. Almighty God Jehovah has the power to resurrect our loved ones, for John 5:28,29 tells us: "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." Please know that Jehovah God does care about you & take comfort from His word during this difficult time.

April 27, 2007
Father we entrust our sister Caitlin to your mercy. You loved her greatly in this life: now that she is freed from all its cares, give her happiness and peace forever. Welcome her now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Caitlin in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
April 27, 2007

April 26, 2007
Please accept our deepest sympathies.
April 26, 2007
We would like to express our deepest sympathy for your loss. The loss of someone close is difficult to bear. It is our hope that you know that we care. The Bible brings sure comfort for all the ones we have lost and answers such questions as: Why do people grow old and die and What happens to us when we die? God promises a time when death will be no more and this is found at Revelation 21:4 which reads: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourn nor pain anymore. The former things have passed away." I hope this brings you some comfort.

April 26, 2007
Caitlin Millar Hammaren let her voice raise high
Her powerful lungs made her sound like a charming bird from the sky
Each word she sent was wrapped in love
She’s peaceful with purity resemblance of a dove
Friends she had for she was best friends towards everyone
She trotted on horses in the midday sun
She rode them because she loved them it was something she enjoyed
Being nice was natural which made mean easy to avoid
She stood up with a powerful stance
Being a leader she helped others to advance
Caitlin was a daughter and a friend who was strong and tender
Keep in mind the things she loved and her always remember

We are heart struck over the senseless actions of one individual. Our thoughts are with you. After the tears stop flowing and the pain softens try to remember the time you shared with your loved one and the memories you made, Memories are eternal and forever and know one can take that away from you.
April 25, 2007
When we lost our 21-year-old daughter, also a college student, in a tragic car crash six years ago we never would have thought anyone would understand the pain we have been feeling. But to Caitlin's family, know that there are thousands who know what you are feeling and we know that while the pain will never ever go away, it will gradually ease and you will one day be able to smile again when you think of the times you cherished with Caitlin. This is a time when you are feeling tremendous support from people all over the world. Soon you will be alone with your grief and you will need to support each other as never before. Seek counseling; seek out others like you as I am with this message. You will find comfort and strength, and Caitlin will remain forever. I wish you all the best in this difficult journey.

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

It is so shocking what happened on that sorrowful day
In my prayers you will forever stay
Although we never met and I did not know you
This is a poem for you to say my adieu
It is a shame you can not be with us today
Due to everything that happened I am still in dismay
Now you are up in a better place
We will never forget your honor and grace
Please look over us, protect us from dangers
You are missed by your family and countless strangers
I wanted to let you know you are in the thoughts of many
Condolences and commiserations are aplenty
I bless your family hope they stay strong
In my thoughts they will always belong
I say to you and the other decease
I wish that you all rest in peace

Count as among the thousands and thousands of people who have been touched by this tragedy and who have been praying for you during this time. So many unanswered questions, so much grief but yet our hope remains in Jesus Christ. The peace, love, courage and strength you need each day will be showered upon you because of His goodness. Your daughter sounds like a wonderful person. Her life was shared with so many and even in her death, we will remember who she was and what she stood for. As the days continue and the grief and the pain intensifies on some days, just know that our prayers will continue. Our love for you and your family will not fade away and God will be glorified through it all.

I didnt know any of the people that passed, but this whole thing has gotten to me, alot. I am 15 years old and I'm a freshman at Crawford County High School in Roberta, GA. This tragedy has most definatley opened up the eyes of many people, even in other states far from Virginia. Even my school in this little town we know as Roberta are buckling down and making sure that our schools are safer. It has opened up my eyes to all the possiblities at schools, here in Georgia, Virginia, and all over the world also. My condolences go out to all the friends and family of the victims. I can't possibly begin to imagine what they must be going through. Stay strong, VT will pull through!

April 24, 2007
When I went home to visit in Vernon this past weekend Father spoke of Caitlin in his homily. He was very touched by her, this was obvious by the tone of his voice. In return this made me well up with tears, thinking of the great excrutiating loss that you are experiencing. Words cannot tell you all how very sorry that I am for you and all of those who have experienced this tragedy first hand. One of the consolations in all of this, is the grace and beauty that is offered to us by the Virgin Mary. She has experienced the same tragedy of someone (us) taking the life of her son. But after all of the sorrow and the pain, we realize the glorious reunion with our savior! Please know that my heart is linked to yours, as a mom, and I will continually ask God to give you his grace and remember all of the wonderful times that you and Caitlin and your family shared! I love her smile~
In his love~

I did not know you or your family. But I don’t believe there is a person in the world whose heart has not been touched by this tragedy. There is nothing in this life that brings us more sorrow than to lose loved ones in death. Even harder to bear is when the lives of loved ones are lost due to an unexpected tragedy. The shock can be overwhelming.
Be assured that God promises that he…”is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalms 34:18) Nothing can bring us more peace of mind than the inspired words of… the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulations. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) Take comfort and solace in the Bible's message as we all await the time when GOD…” will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3,4)

You don't me and I don't know you , but Caitlin's story has touch my life through a news reporter that was at VTech last week. Caitlin's roomate ,Rochelle, gave one of our Camera men from Huntington, WV a picture of her and Caitlin and ask him to put it in his home and when someone ask who it was..he could tell her story. Rochelle didn't want her to just me 1 of 33 because she was so special. The picture is in the home of the Newsman with other family photos. He gave me a copy and it's on my prayer wall at Sunday School. She will be remembered as more than just 1 of the 33. Our prayers are with you. I have a 17 year old daughter and can't begin to imagine what you're going through.

To the Hammaren family,
No words can ease the devastating grief of losing your daughter. I just wanted you to know that the people of Calvary Episcopal Church (Front Royal, Va) are praying for you and Caitlin. May the knowledge that many are praying for you bring you some measure of comfort.

To The Friends and Family of Caitlin,
As a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, I was deeply hurt by the loss of my sister. Despite never meeting Caitlin, we were still bonded through our golden key. In times like these, know every single Kappa, spread throughout the world, is praying for and thinking of Caitlin. While no words need to be said between sisters, they need to be said to you, the family of my beloved sister. Know forever that Caitlin will be remembered and loved in the Kappa community.
RIP Caitlin, and "Dream awhile... dream of her, and she will be with you."

Dear John, Marion and Marion's Mom: Now that I've seen Caitlin's mischievous eyes and disarming smile, and heard of her boundless energy and enthusiasm, I know that in time your memories of her, like my memories of you, will bring you only light, not darkness, and warmth and comfort, not sadness. You have been truly blessed, in a way that many people never are. I hope you can overcome the grief and sadness you feel now by appreciating just how lucky you were that she was with you for as long as she was.

I am deeply saddened by the lost of your loved one. At times like these it is comforting to know that the Bible tells us at Acts 24 verse 15 that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. So with that knowledge, know that there is a hope that you will see your loved one again.
April 22, 2007
My prayers are with all of Caitlin's friends and family during this very sad time. God bless you all.

Such disbelief over the loss of Caitlin. We prayed for her as we waited to hear, saddened by the news. Though we had lost touch since middle school, it is obvious how much Caitlin touched the lives of those around her. She grew into a beautiful woman and she will live on in as many ways as the people she knew. Be blessed with her life and take comfort that so many others have been blessed as well. Know that our prayers are with you.

We are so sorry on the sudden loss of your precious daughter Caitlin. Remember the neverending love of the Lord for your family and Caitlin who is now in his care.
April 21, 2007
The email I received from Jean Geary, Caitlin's paternal grandmother, was perhaps the worst I have ever received. The irrationality of this tragedy is beyond my comprehension.

Caitlin's father, John, is one of my best friends (we survived being roomates freshman year at Columbia and have remained friends and in contact since then). I have photos of my two daughters playing with Caitlin. All I have been able to think about is looking at them on the back deck of her father's house in the mid 1990s, with my daughters sitting with Caitlin in the lounge chair. As my oldest daughter is entering college in September, this tragedy on a campus, to a girl, now grown, who once played with my girls, especially makes me pause.

It is clear that Caitlin grew up to be an extraordinary individual. And therein lies the only positive note I can take from this tragedy: If Caitlin Hammaren is even remotely representative of her generation, then indeed goodness will ultimately triumph over the lunacy that took her away from us.

There can be no more test of will for John and Caitlin's mom, Marion, than to somehow rise above and beyond this lunacy and, like your daughter did for her peers, distill from us all the goodness we still possess.

To the family and friends of Caitlin,
I am saddened by the news of your loss. As I read through this guestbook, I recalled many of my former students that Caitlin knew. I am sure that everyone who knew her is now recalling fond memories of what a wonderful person she was. I had the pleasure of teaching her in chorus during her middle school career and she was truly unique in her character, energy, and genuine love for life. It is sad that your family has lost such a shining light. My best wishes and prayers are with all of the friends, relatives, and former teachers who have been touched by this tragedy.

Sorrowful tears
well up in my eyes
For those who have fallen
like rain from the skies

Each life was so precious
so many are gone
May they shine now from Heaven
like a new morning dawn

I cannot make sense
of this tragic event
I offer my heart
and my prayers have been sent

Each one had a dream
Each one had a goal
Each one had a family
Each one has a soul

Life must go on
for loved ones so shattered
Reach to their hearts
and show them it mattered

For families so lost
For friends left to cope
I greive for their hearts
I pray for their hope

In memory of those who have fallen and for those left to grieve.
For those left injured in harms way...
I pray for peace and healing of your hearts.

I can remember running to your car as the rain started to pour upon us, one day at tennis practice. Thankful for the shelter your mother provided us with, we laughed and talked about the coming school year. You were about to enter Freshmen Year. As the days rolled into two years of school, I had the privilege of sharing your friendship. I am appreciative for the many memories I have of you. You will not be forgotten. Dearest Marian, Chris and extended family of our dear Caity, While I thought words would be so hard to write, I find myself writing tributes to our glorious Caity. How I had hoped to welcome into our family someday. She was a success in every turn of her life and her life touched so many. We need to wake up each morning and grab the brass ring, go for the gold and do it the way Caity would have wanted us to. She will continue to be a shining star in our lives and we will miss her forever. Our lives are truly blessed because our paths crossed. God bless you and if you ever need us, never hesitate to call. We love you. Wendy and Dave Paffenroth

Caitlin was a truly beautiful person! I had the pleasure of being in both chorus and drama with her for all of my high school career. She would always go out of her way to help anyone in need. She had the biggest heart and her smile could light up a room. Every time I saw her, that smile always made my day just a bit brighter. Caitlin, I know that you are watching over all of us and I hope that one day we will meet again, that will be a joyous day when I can see that amazing smile once again! My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. Caitlin may God Bless and keep you! We all LOVE and MISS you, you are forever in our hearts!

To the family and friends of Caitlin:

I cannot begin to imagine the pain and sorrow you are facing following the horrific events at Virginia Tech earlier this week. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and everyone touched by these events.

I learned on Tuesday that Caitlin was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. As a fellow sister (Epsilon Zeta chapter at Florida State University) I am deeply saddened to hear of one of my sister's lives being taken at such a young age. Although nothing can be done to bring her back, I only hope that Caitlin's memory can live on through her family, friends, chapter, and everyone who knew her.

Love, friendship, loyalty.
Once a sister, always a sister.
Although we never met her, Caitlin's memory will live on in our thoughts and prayers.

Loyally,
Laura O'Kane

April 20, 2007
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I didn't know you Caitlin, but your parents recently encountered my daughter Grace, who prayed with them and reminded them of you. I read that you made everyone feel like your best friend and your smile was infectious. You and Grace could have been sisters - indeed in Christ you are. Your legacy, which we will never know the full impact of in this life Caitlin, has already left its mark on Grace, our family, and everyone we share (Grace's encounter with your family) with. Your family will remain in our hearts and prayers, as we watch God work amazingly through the pain and shock of your passing.

Hammaren Family: One does not need to know a family personally to express their sincere sympathy in the loss of CAITLIN. But, one has the privilege to let a grieving family know that others feel the pain you are going through.
We are American's. People who are not ashamed to shed tears or shed feelings for your loss and let you know our hearts are grieving with your's.
Heavenly Father.....Grant each of us wisdom and understanding as so many grieve over the tragedy that has fallen in our country. Comfort each family during these heavy days of sorrow and for their life time. We know, You, are our healer. You, are our King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Our Shepherd who guides us daily. Bless the HAMMAREN FAMILY.
.........AMEN.........
On this day of mourning I will light a candle in my home for 32 families. May the Kingdom of God guide and BLESS the HAMMAREN FAMILY and all families of this tragedy.
........GOD BLESS AMERICA......

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

My Aunt Sue and Uncle Frank are friends of yours, and our family's condolences and love go out to you both at this difficult time. We are stunned, and pray for you and your loved ones. Caitlin's smile in the pictures I've seen is contagious, and from what I've read, she positively affected so, so many people. You should both be very proud!

My sister, brother, my brother-in-law, and his brother all went to VT, and truly, it's a special place. My sister and her husband even got married at the Chapel at the edge of the Drill Field. My brother-in-law's father and my brother's college roommate are both current professors at VT, and I can't imagine what you are all going through down in Blacksburg.

I do know that the Hokie Family will hug you long and deeply, and I hope you find some peace on that beautiful campus. As the poet Nikki Giovanni said the other day, "We are Virginia Tech!" I am indeed proudly wearing maroon and orange today.

God Bless you both. Words are not enough to portray our deep sympathy for you, but our family hopes you know that you are surrounded by lots of love and prayers. May Caitlin rest in peace with her beloved dog!

Love,
The Sommerlad Family

To the Family and Friends of Caitlin:
I already posted an entry not even knowing who you were but because I was deeply saddened by your story in the times herald record and the tragedy of your passing and that you came from a community that was so close to mine in Warwick. Now I find out that you are the niece of Dr. Margharita, my daughter's orthodontist. Your uncle is a true professional, a caring doctor and a good human being with a great sense of humor always there to make his patients smile and we are sure that his niece was no exception. Our hearts break for all of you. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers always.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

April 20, 2007
Our words can not begin to express what is in our hearts. Please know our thoughts & our prayers are with you during this most difficult time.

To the family and friends of Caitlin Hammaren,

Please accept my deepest sympathies. I can’t possibly imagine what you may be feeling,
I can only hope that in time your pain will subside a little and that your memories of Caitlin will eventually bring a smile to your faces. Until then, be as kind to yourselves as you would be to anyone else who has suffered such a heartbreaking loss. Rest now, grieve now, and allow those who know you and love you do what they can to help you through this tragic time.

My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you.
April 20, 2007

April 19, 2007
Dear Marian,
I could not comprehend seeing your beautiful daughter's face on the TV last night. I only met her briefly one time in your office, but she lit up the room with her smile as well as her heart. You also lit up the room any time you talked about her. I think she got the best of both worlds: nature and nuture. My heart breaks for your loss. I will pray for you, Chris and your entire family to find strength and peace within your hearts during this hardest time in your life.

Caitlin, may God keep you in his loving embrace.

There are no words to express our shock and sorrow. Our thoughts are with you today and will be with you in the days and weeks to come.
April 19, 2007
I sat next to your daughter in political science class and she was the warmest and most caring person I have ever met. Her smile could cheer you up no matter how bad you were feeling. She made friends with everyone who knew her and ger favorite thing to do was to help others.Thank You for raising such a wonderful daughter ,she was one of the finest human beings that has ever graced Va Tech. I was so heartbroken to find out that she was one of the victims. There is not a doubt in my mind that she is in heaven right now flashing that beautiful smile.
April 19, 2007
Caitlin was never without a smile. The smallest thing like building a wall for a set for our high school drama club made her face light up. The world has lost someone truely remarkable, and there are no words to explain the hurt we all feel. We must all celebrate her life, and never stop loving. May you look down upon us all with your beautiful smile for the rest of our time until we meet again.
April 19, 2007
I'm heartbroken for Caitlin's friends and family; she looks like a real nice, friendly girl. I don't know any of the victims, but myself and countless others feel your loss and grieve with you. God bless Caitlin's family and friends.
April 19, 2007
Caitlin, even being a year older than you, you were such an inspiration to me. Your positive outlook on life and overall positive attitude towards everything was/is such an influence to me. You were one of a handful of my friends who never had anything bad to say about anyone. You will always be an inspiration to everyone who knew you. I love you and miss you terribly.

Please know that both Stacy and I are here for you guys for anything you might need at any time.

As a 2005 graduate of Minisink I can say from the bottom of my heart that I had the chance to be in the presence of someone that I can only pray I will one day be like. She was truly a wonderful woman and with every tear I cry I pray for her family and the class of 2005 for the loss of Caitlin is one the world will be affected by forever.
Hammaren Family, my prayers are with you and know that your daughter affected me, supported me and was a girl that I will live my life remembering because of her beautiful soul. She will forever be missed.....

I'm a Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Arizona. I feel shaken to the core that one of my beautiful Kappa sisters has been taken from this world. To Caitlin's family, you are in my incessant prayers. Kappas are amazing women and I miss your daughter without even meeting her. Stay strong and move forward with radical hope. It seems unfair to write that... I guess no words are really the right words.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

This is a tragedy for all Americans. I know we are thousands of miles away, but we feel your grief and would take it from you if we could. Take one day at a time. It's not true that time will heal. I know that firsthand. But what will carry you is the grace of God and his love that he has for you. And, his strong hand that will gently lead and guide you each day if you trust him. Lean on him for he is strong as we our weak. We're praying for you all that you'll be strengthened and comforted with Gods peace.

The Harriman Family,

Thanks to the Minisink Valley Chorus, i was able to meet your wonderful daughter Caitlin. She always had a positive attitude, always had a smile on her face, and had dedication that i had never seen before. She brought so much to the chorus family and to her friends. Even though Caitlin and I were aquaintances, i never forgot her, and i never will. Kind words cannot fill the void in your hearts, but know that she was deeply loved by all those that were lucky enough to meet her and we are all better for having been in her presence. God is now blessed with his newest angel..

Caitlin, may you Rest in Peace

A daughter, a friend, a student, and a cousin. Its hard to think that shes gone forever, but i have no doubt in my mind that we will meet once again, one day, in paradise.

I've heard so many nice things about Caitlin. Although I didn't personally know her,I know that she was a beautiful person both inside and out, whose smile made everyone smile. All my prayers and hope go out to her family and friends. It isn't easy letting someone go. Just know that it isn't a goodbye. It's a see you later! Keep your heads up and know that she would want you to smile big, just like she always did.

God Bless

And remember...There are so many people out there thinking of you!

Someone gave this to me and I pass faith on to you!

Virginia Tech Family,

"AS YOU TAKE
one step at a time,
HOLDING GOD’S HAND
And letting Him lead,
HE WILL GET YOU
Where you need
TO GO.”

Father God,
I don’t want to take one step without You. I reach up for Your hand and ask that You lead me in Your way. Thank You that no matter where I am right now… You will make a path from where I am to where I need to be, and You will lead me on it. I love that Your grace abounds to me in that way.

To Caitlin's Family:

IN MEMORY OF CAITLIN...
For everyday that passes
a new dawn will follow,
With every night you dream
you'll find it hard to swallow.
The one you lost is never gone,
for she'll stay with you in your heart,
And when you miss her the most
Just listen for her voice is like that of art.
She watches down in peace
and will guide you through your day,
Know that when you need her,
she's just a prayer away.
Although her life was short,
she wishes yours lives long.
Just remember every smile,
and think of every song.
She is an angel up above,
with her wings spread apart,
Looking down upon you all
guiding you within your hearts.
The tears soon will fade,
but the pain is always real.
Just know she would want to take
away all the pain you feel.
So live, laugh and love,
every moment of everyday...
Because dearest Caitlin would have wanted it that way.

April 18, 2007

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Hammeran Family,
A former musician and athlete from Minisink, I can relate to her hard work and dedication, which lead Caitlin to her successes. Although I am much older than Caitlin, my youngest sister was fortunate enough to be in some of her classes and could only cry when I told her about the tragedy. Kinds words and thoughts will never fill the void this loss has left in your soul, but know that the Minisink and VT families will be your strength through this terrible time. The heavens have made room for another angel. May Caitlin rest in peace.

April 18, 2007
My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Caitlin Hammaren. This is such a tragedy that we will all be reeling from for some time. As a returning adult student to a large college campus I can not imagine what the families and student of VT are dealing with. Having grown up in Pine Island, a small town, but with friends and family that have branched across the country, I can not imagine what Caitlin’s friends are going through. Senseless deaths are so difficult, and know that so many people are thinking of you and sending you their love and comfort across the many miles.

I was watching the documentary they had on MTV last night and one particular story stood out. Caitlin, your friend was on tv crying and talking about her experience that day. It was such a moving experience when she mentioned your name and described what an outstanding person you were. Your friendliness and eagerness to bring a smile to those around you. My thoughts and prayers go out to her loved ones in this time of grief and need. May God Bless Caitlin, her family as well as all the other families and friends and victims affected.

A member of my professional association, Susan Geary, is related to Caitlin's family, and our website just posted a notice.
I have three children in college and I cannot possibly imagine the loss that Caitlin's family is experiencing. My prayers are for her loved ones, who are imbued with sorrow, but we all know that Caitlin's spirit, the true spirit of a great young woman, will rise to heights we cannot imagine.
April 18, 2007
I never met Caitlin personally, but I saw a young woman full of life receiving her diploma in 2005. She hugged the man who presented her with her diploma. I was a few feet away with a video camera, recording the event for the graduation committee.
Being the parent of a college student at a large university myself, I feel a tremendous sense of loss for one I have never met.
May the family find a reason to smile when they realize how many people Caitlin has touched.
April 18, 2007
My thoughts and prayers are with Caitlin's family during this time. May you find peace and comfort. God Bless.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this difficult time.
April 18, 2007
In her mind was curiosity and questions. Her eyes danced with friendship and kindness. Her spirit soared with enthusiasm, dedication and loyalty and her old soul embraced those she knew and strangers she wanted to know. She was the child every parent could want, the student each teacher wanted and a friend to all. How she touched us is the legacy she leaves behind. Remembered with love and reverence and with the utmost sorrow for Chris and Marion. All my love.
