I was so sorry to hear of Charles' passing. I became a fan of his through his work in the films of Russ Meyer. He brought those films some class & created a truly iconic character in Harry Sledge. Since then I have enjoyed his work in many things including Citizen's Band, A-Team, Knight Rider, Murder She Wrote, CHiPs, The Blues Brothers & so many other things.

I always wanted to do an interview with Charles. I have done interviews with many of the stars of Meyer films, but I guess I won't get that chance now. I can look up though & talk to him anytime I want to now. May God bless & take good care of you Charles:)
October 16, 2011
So sorry for the loss. Steve, Rebekah, Aaron, and I certainly wish we had been able to see him more frequently. He will be remembered.

Charlie, a stranger that turned to be a friend by a fluke meeting in Santo Domingo around 1991. I never would have thought I would have a small part in a film with such a fabulous actor as you. Well, I never made it all the way to the awards but, I did make the big silver screen you had mentioned. Although, I did get your dinner ordered in spanish or you would have still been there trying to order something. With all the ups and downs in everyday life, you always brought a smile to everyone you met along the way, your life was amazing to say the least and you will be missed by many, especially me. Thanks, Charlie, continue on in your finest role you have ever played, just save me a spot with a good view.

My condolences on the loss of your dad. Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. I knew your father during his high school years. He was the first in our group that had a car, so he hauled us all around. We watched him play basketball. I remember when he and his friends left for service & his entering Western on his return from service. Old friends recently told me they stayed in touch with your father through e-mail. It is nice to know he continued to be a great guy through life. God be with you at this time.

I had the honor of knowing Charlie since I was a girl. He was my fathers best friend and partner in crime for many escapades. I would describe him as more of a character than any character he ever played. Blessed with a heart even bigger than his grin. My father affectionately referred to him simply as "the chin" . I wish more people could know that he was also an incredibly talented & poetic painter. My family has been fortunate enough to be in the company of several of his most beautiful water colors. Oh you crazy darling Chuck, wherever you may roam, please know that you are forever in my dearest thoughts and fondest memories. Love You!! xxxoooVerkina Flower

I am so saddened by Mr. Napier's passing. As a young girl and first year teacher I went to see "Cherry, Harry and Raquel" on my 21st birthday. I just loved his smile and I never forgot the movie either. Years later, I was always happy to see him in films and on television. He was an honest-to-goodness fine actor and seemed to be such a genuinely nice, down-to-earth man.

He made a great contribution with his work over 4 decades, and the world will not be the same without him.

My sincere and deepest sympathy to his family. He was a fine and versatile actor and I hope your wonderful memories of him will give you comfort and in time, peace.

God bless you, Charles Napier. The world and I will miss you.

Mr. Napier,
May you rest in peace. You will be remembered and missed. We ask that your family find comfort during these times.
October 07, 2011
One of my favorite movie moments was in "Something Wild" when Jeff Daniels and Melanie Griffith are at "Mom & Dad's" roadside restaurant. As Charlie (Daniels) is leaving the restaurant, unaware that Lulu (Griffith) hasn't paid and that she's running out on the check, Mr. Napier (as the chef) comes out from the kitchen to ask the maitre d' (Kenneth Utt), "Is there a problem here... Dad?" That always cracks me up. Oh, and let's not forget him with his meat cleaver, sprinting after the couple as they're peeling away in their car.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
October 07, 2011
Our prayers and Love to Chuck's Family.
He will be deeply missed!

I'd always thought he was a good actor and played out very good every role I saw him portray. I met Mr. Napier in 1986 when he was traveling to Myrtle Beach with a female companion. He stopped by for lunch at the Barbeque Barn in Moncks Corner, SC where I worked at the time. I recognized him as soon as he smiled. I was honored to be their server. He was very polite. RIP Mr. Napier.

I first became aware of Mr. Napier in the Sleep 'n Aire TV ads on Bakersfield's Channel 17 News.
One day in the 80's I parked at the Bank of America in NE Bakersfield and prepared to go inside. But then Mr. Napier came out of the bank. He apparently had parked next to us. I couldn't help myself. I turned to him, held out my hand, and said hello. He was very gracious and returned the handshake with a smile.

October 06, 2011
May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
October 06, 2011
Was saddened by the news of the death of Charles Napier. I had the pleasure of knowing him as Chuck over the years and when he started acting in 1967.
He worked out at Valley Gym in Reseda and was a member throughout the years. He was always friendly and had a kind word to say.
I will always remember when he was trying out for the role of Doc Savage-Man Of Bronze; and was told he needed to bulk up. So he worked out relentlessly to obtain the necessary bulk but was passed over for a reknowned actor. He smiled and said he get it next time.
And over the years as I saw him in each new acting role, I smiled knowing next time finally came.
He will be sorely missed....God Bless

Several years ago, my wife and I were checking in to a Motel on the east coast of Florida one evening. I noticed a man and his family , also checking in, whom I recognized immediately.
I said, like a country bumpkin, "Hey, I know you". He smiled with that famous grin and said "Hey, Man, it's nice to see you", and he stuck out his big hand to shake mine.
I said "You look younger than you do on TV". His wife smiled and said "He loves to hear that".
He then said "It's nice to meet you, my friend".
After our chance meeting on that far-away night in Florida, I shall always treasure meeting "Charles", and remember how gracious he was to me, a stanger when we met, but friends ever since.
