My friend...you had
a great run.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Dear Mr. Reilly:
Thank You for a lifetime of warm memories & encouragement [albeit unbeknownst to You] to just be Myself...another stagestruck Gay boy who grew up in the gritty North End of Hartford, CT....May You rest in Peace (or is it Peas?)...written with Love and Respect for Your Talents!
San Francisco, CA [Oz]
Charles, you always made my family laugh (a lot) thanks for all the good memories.
Rest in Peace Charles...You made me laugh for many years and you will be missed.
What a great guy! I wish I could tell a personal story- I was only able to laugh hard at his antics and humor on TV. He will truly be missed by many, & I am among them.
Your glass was always full. We will miss your greatness, and sense of humor. You were one of the giants in show- biz
you were one of the funniest person
I know! Loved watching you on T. V.
Rest In Peace.
I knew Charles when he was a 24 year old supporting actor at the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City in 1955. He was a delight to be around and a darn good actor. May he rest in peace.
Thank you for being such a special part of my childhood. I can still and will always hear your laughter.
We're told laughter is the best medicine. THANK YOU for healing so many on and off the stage.
Charles was the greatest theater director who ever graced the stage and rehearsal hall of the Burt Reynolds Dinner theater in Jupiter. He helped us all to see things that we had not seen...in props,in dialogue, in relationships and theatrical space. Sitting in rehearsal with Charles was a delight. The world has not only lost a light of laughter and mirth, but a light in the theater. My prayer is that those who had the honor of sitting at his feet will coninue to carry that theatrical light forward to future generations of aspiring actors. The theater was a better place because of Charles.I never learned so much from a director.
And besides all of this, he was a very, very funny man!
My favorite story Charles told was when he was a struggling actor and so poor that all he and his dog had to eat was spagetti, so when he took the dog out for a "walk," everyone thought the dog had a horrible case of worms!
It may seem inappropriate, but it was completely Charles!
I never laughed harder than when I was with Charles...especially the time he was running late for a rehearsal and pulled up in his car wearing a baseball cap, opened the trunk and took out a toupe and a roll of duct tape, whipped off his hat, slapped a circle of tape on his head and plopped the toupe in place with a single slap!
Charles gave me great confidence, a birthday that lasted a week, my first dinner at Sardi's and enough laughter for a liftime!
May peace be with him.
Love from all the Nemec Family.
And from your 1981 "BRDT" class of Apprentices.
Thanks for you humor! (Authentic Transformation is not possible without loads of humor!)
Thanks for being real, always. YOU.
...And when things got tough backstage and jealousies loomed among the younger actors and actresses, Charles would shout with his baseball cap over his face, revealing his bald spot, and his shirt falling out the front of his baggy shorts, EVERYBODY IS FINE AND EVERYTHING IS ALL RIGHT!
Ah, Charles, Chuck, Charles! Final Act? "And that's Theater, babies!"
Love, Love, Love
I LOVED YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR,YOU WOULD MISSED ,LOTS OF LAUGHS, REST IN PEACE.
A generous teacher. A true original and a great artist. How lucky your students were and how you will be missed.
What a funny man. God Bless You !!
As a Jersey City native I shall miss Charles' wonderful Bronx humour and great mind. May his soul rest in peace.
Charles - quick witted and quirky, never missed a beat. A comedian's comedian and an all around great guy. As expressed by many, he will be missed. When they made him, they broke the mold. Godspeed.
Charles, you were the one who had me on the floor in laughter. I love and miss you and your witty ways. I will never forget some of your humorous answers on Hollywood Squares. I think you were the main reason I watched daily. When there is lightning, its your sharp wit, the thunder is the heavens rolling with laughter and the rain is our tears missing you. Rest in Peace my friend.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GREAT SHOWS ON MATCH GAME!!! YOU WERE VERY FUNNY WITH THE OTHER PANELISTS. SAY HELLO TO GENE AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE LAUGHTER!!!

I enjoyed you on the games show - you brought a lot of excitement to the show. You are going to be sadly missed. May God bless and keep your family.
"I never learned so much while laughing so hard. Charles had the uncanny ability to wrap essential acting (and life) lessons in gales of laughter.
Tricky stuff, that. If you weren't listening you would miss the point and just wind up with aching ribs.
I think I miss that the most.
That and the way he was able to find the things -- the little truths -- that weren't on the page, but somehow -- if you trusted him to follow through, to play them -- they would make the play and your performance better.
Of course, I still look for free food and drinks every chance I get!
Ken Kay Class of '81
Charles you will be sadly missed. I always considered you and especially Mr. Reynolds genious of comedy. God bless!!
Charles - you knew I was a single struggling mom and you were always so friendly with my children. You always took the time to chat with them
Whenever you saw me you always yelled out "Hey New York" - the nickname you gave me
You will be missed
Charles- you will always be in our hearts... you were a great friend and you will be missed very much. We love you Charles and we will see you again someday. God Bless
I have enjoyed his entertainment throughout the years. I especially Loved him on Match Game. He will be greatly missed!
Dear Charles, You were so kind to me when I was a struggling actress working at Sardi's and studying at H.B. Studios. As you noted how kind Vincent Sardi had been to you when you were struggling you were that way to me. Sadly Vincent passed also recently so maybe you are up there with him having some Cannoloni! Years later you worked on a show with my husband and brought a Sardi's Hat for me. A gift I will cherish forever. I am so glad I was privileged to see your one man show -it was so great!
God Bless you and keep them laughing up there. You were loved and lovely and will be missed.Your fellow Bronxite and thespian, Ann Gagen
Always loved him. Didn't know he was gay; who cared. He was funny and that was the important thing. I loved Johnny Mathis before I knew he was gay and I still love him. Gay is just an adjective and not the person. I'll miss his humor and can picture some of his remarks on the game shows in my mind; those kind of game shows were a lot more fun than the stupid junk you have today. Sorry he suffered for so long. God Bless Barry
My heart goes out to Charles Nelson Reilly's family. I enjoyed his humor through the years gone by and will miss his smile. Thanks for the memories, Charles!

You brought laughter and smiles to a long chorus line of appreciative viewers on the squak box for several decades and shall continue to do so in the land of re-runs. To Mr. Hughes,
I'am sorry to hear about Charles Nelson Reilly's passing. He was so funny on Match Game and his intelligence shined right through with the humorous answers he would give. In a way he was a pioneer for gay men. He showed that it's ok to be gay and others seemed very accepting of his sexuality atleast on the Match Game. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. I am sure you have lots of lovely memories of him. May God be with you at this difficult time.
With Sincere Sympathy,
My sympathies to Mr. Hughes. Thank you Charles for your candor and wit.

My condolences to Mr. Reilly's partner, Patrick Hughes. Rest assured knowing he is not suffering.
When Charles was on Match Game, I was always envious that Brett got to sit by him everyday...I had such a silly-girl-crush on him! I believe it was his warm humor and grace that I loved. What a lovely, wonderful, funny man he was on television...I am not one who is usually "star-struck", but Charles was one personality that I would have loved to have met. Today my prayers and thoughts are with you, Patrick.
Thank you for bring so much joy into the lives of all who loved watching you over the years. You will always be remembered, and will live on in the memory of those who had so much enjoyment in the work that you preformed.
Charles: my teacher, mentor, supporter, inspiration. I always wanted to thank him for his loving spirit- now it's too late. Never will I forget the depth of his creativity and sensitivity as he guided us in Burt Reynolds' apprenticeship acting program 1981-83. He was an original who left an indelible mark on my life. He made the world better for being in it. Wherever you may be in the ether, rest in peace, dear heart.

I always enjoyed watching and hearing the "wit" of Charles Nelson Reilly. He was a very funny and talented man.
Please accept my deepest sympathies.
I remember seeing you on "Match Game" and you were one of the funniest on the show alongside Brett and Richard Dawson. You and Paul Lynde were the two funniest gay men on any game show. I still watch syndicated "Match Game" shows on GSN and they still make me laugh. You will be missed. Truly, along side Bob Barker, you were and still are a game show as well as an acting icon.
May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well-lived.
You have a larger than life personality and a very kind heart. I will never forget my conversation with you when your good friend Burt Reynolds was staying at the hotel I worked at. I liked how you were so open in speaking with me about your long time friendship with Burt and my first name.

God keep you, Charles. 1970's television cannot be discussed without your name being mentioned. The game show circuit in heaven is glad to see you! Thanks for the laughs....
Acting is true work of service to one's fellow community and the world. There is nothing more difficult or more satisfying than self expression. However, when the work doesn't come, it is also one of the deepest rejections. You become very strong or fall apart. It is a test to ride out the huge ups and downs in the business.
I love the essence of Charles Nelson Reilly. When I was a teenager, there he was and I actually got his jokes...all the time. But, most of all, I could feel love across the TV to my house which wasn't filled with love.
I am an actor and singer and I am ever reminded that I have something to contribute to life that is bigger than I could ever have known.
I can see Charles now, this moment, in his Square or on the Match Game and I am smiling, laughing.
Bravery and Courage come in all different forms.
Thank you to you, Charles, for that warmth in my life that I can never forget even to this moment.
In the end, when all the STUFF is sorted through and talked about, the only real thing is Love, so why not let Love be the beginning.
WE WILL TRULY MISS THIS LEGENDARY OVER THE TOP COMEDIAN. HE WAS HIMSELF AT ALL TIMES AND DID IT WITH HUMOR AND DIGNITY AND A LITTLE WILDNESS. MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS PARTNER AND FAMILY.
Was sorry to hear this news. I have always liked Charles Nelson Reilly! May God rest his soul.
I had only seen you on Match Game, but you were the reason i watched. You and Bret made the show what it was. Reading your biography i wish i could have seen more. I cryed when i heard, and i found out from Gameshow Network. I hope your in heaven, makeing God laugh.. and one day i hope you make me laugh in person.
Patrick and other members of family: You have my deepest condolences. Charles was one in a million who brought more joy to more people in one week than most do in a lifetime. He was pure delight on TV and will be remembered fondly by many as well as myself. He's playing for the Master now, with his biggest audience ever. I am sure he is resting in peace.

Charles, you were one terrifically funny guy. I was shocked to learn of your all-too-early departure. To Charles Nelson's family our heart goes out to you for your loss. We still watch re-runs and Charles Nelson is the funniest! He lights up the entire room. We'll see you Later Charles Nelson on Match Game.
Gene Rayburn may have been the host but Charles, Brett Somers & "Dickie" Dawson MADE Matchgame. We still love the reruns on GSN. Even my 6 yr old asks about "that funny guy with the glasses" when they show the episodes he wasn't on.
The Game shows may have ruined the career he wanted but they introduced him to a whole 'nother audience & we will miss him.
Grateful for the gift of Charles in our world and our consciousness forever.
You were very funny and you will be missed by many.
How well I remember Charles Nelson Reilly walking up and down the aisles of the Bushnell Memorial where he ushered. As a member of the Weaver High School class one year ahead of me, our paths might have crossed when on that August afternoon in 1944 we both attended, witnessed and survived the burning of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus on Barbour Street in Hartford. An event not to be forgotten, nor will he be.
A wonderfully funny man, we will miss you.
I thought he was so funny on those game shows but I loved the last things I saw him in on the X Files as Jose Chung....RIP!
Charles was a lovely and HILARIOUS man! A truly unique gem of a person -- we were all so blessed to have "known" him.

Dearest Charles, I will always remember the first time we met...you walked into my shop (Love's Flower Shop) and one of my designers came back & said, "I know that person out there but I can't quite put my finger on it". As I walked out, I knew immediatley it was you, especially when you asked me a question. That unmistakable voice of the Match Game gave you away. You had us in stitches for hours!! Thank you for all the memories as you introduced us as "my own personal florists, the famous Todd & Tammy". We loved attending your plays at The Caldwell & The Lyric, especially The Gin Game. Fairwell my friend & as you always said to us, "I love you" right back at ya!! Our condolences to you Patrick, Charles

You brought so much laughter into our lives. Your wit and your antics made the game shows big hits.May you sparkle in heaven, too
Sympathy. He was sooo......funny !! Love "Match Game" He was great on "The Ghost & Mrs Muir." Wonderful on "The Tonite Show" (Johnny Carson).Lidsville was incredible !!
Charles - I never could decide if I loved you more in the yachting cap or the cowboy hat. But love you, I did. I was in my 20s when I first saw you on the match game sometime in the 1970's. If it weren't for you and Gene, there wouldn't have been a Match Game. No matter how bad things were going for me at the time, you could always make me smile and many times LOL. My favorite was when you would say something naughty and then stare at the camera with one eyebrow raised. I always hated it when you were away doing something else.
I just want everyone in Hollywood to know how much you were loved all over America. You were our Charles. Tell Gene I loved him too and miss him. Have fun.
My greatest sorrow is all the regrets that come after a favorite has passed ... why isn't there some way of passing our accolade's on BEFORE they are gone??? He gave us year's of such great entertainment!!! He will definately be missed by ALL...!!!
Charles will be forever cherished as the great entertainer that he was and you are the luckiest person to have such a great Guardian Angel to watch over you. Charles is now pain free and may your happy memories help you through this difficult time.
With my deepest sympathy;
I have adored Charles Nelson Reilly since I first saw him on Match Game when I was very young. The laughter and joy he gave to us will forever be remembered. May he rest in peace. Then, again, he's probable already standing next to Gene and having all of heaven chuckling.

I spent Sunday looking at old Match Game clips on Charles Nelson Reilly, after watching him on the game show, it's so ironic when I read that he had passed away today. The world has lost a true gem. There is not enough laughter in the world these days, but Charles Nelson Reilly always makes my day! I continue to watch him on the Game Show Network. It's like watching your best friend. Rest well, good friend.
Charles was clever, sincere, funny, intelligent and talented. Most people have no idea what a brilliant theatrical performer and producer he was. It always pained me he was most widely known for game show appearances, but Charles could live with that, so I did too.
Charles and Paul Lynde were in a class all their own, and the world no longer knows men of their kind.
I feel very sad and somber today because the world is diminished by the loss of one who brought such joy and smiles to the lives others.
You will be miss I didnot care if you were gay you were a great actor and becaues of you there will be more young men and women out there wating in the back stages, I love you humor and your funny laugh. God speed in you way home to our Father.

My heart is saddened today. A funy funny man has left us. I'm 27 years old and I think I've seen every episode of the "Match Game." You made that show no doubt and I laugh everytime I watch it. I still get bummed when I see an episode where someone filled in for you! May you keep the heavens laughing, and keep filling in the "blanks" with Gene and Nipsey.
I never much liked game shows, but Charles Nelson Reilly's humor made "Match Game" and other shows he was on extremely funny...Thank You, Mr. Reilly, may you rest in peace.
Charles was a natural for sure that made him a magnet for viewers. I could always count on Charles to make me laugh. For entertainers like Charles it didnt matter to any sensible person what his sexual orientaion was about
i really enjoyed your sense of humor throughout the years in various tv shows a kid i was then rest in peace and may your humor ring throughout the clouds
Thanks for putting a smile on our faces
He brought great laughter to all but let's not forget his directing of the "Bell of Amherst" with Julie Harris. A wonderful play.
No rest in Heaven...everyone will be laughing too much!
Sympathies to his partner, family and friends. As a young girl I watched Charles Nelson Reilly on TV and was afraid for him, and for Paul Lynde, for being so out in a time when that was unheard of. I didn't know the name for what I was, or what they were, or even what it meant, but I knew they were my brothers. I'll always be grateful to the heroes and icons who, said in essence, "I am who I am."
Now he can share his fabulous sense of humor with the angels not of this earth anymore. Rest, brother. We'll miss you here.
A talented, gifted funny man ...... Rest in Peace.
I used to watch you on "Match Game" & as far as I'm concerned, you were the SHOW!!! Hilarious! Your wit & humor made me laugh so hard! There will never be another C.N.R. LOVED YOU!

My sincere condolences to you Patrick! My first memories of Charles date back to 1971. I was but nine ot ten years old. The program was called Lidsville. Charles was Horatio J. Hoodoo. What a time he had with that Witchiepoo! Of course then came Rowen and Martin's Laugh-In and the Match Game. I used to immitate that laugh of his. He will truly be missed by all who grew up with him.

It is sad to say I grew up watching Mr. Reilly but it is close to true I did have a start before he made it to TV.
I always enjoyed his work and thought he a very smart and gentle soul.
Strangely I had been thinking about him lately having not heard anything of him in a while.
I wish his partner all of God's love and comfort at this time and always.
You most of all will miss his smiling face.
