I remember going to the Laudermilk farm in Henager Ala with my grandfather to get our mules shoed. Didnt know for many yrs that Mr Laudermilk was Ira and Charlies Dad.
After moving to Wisconsin i didnt get back to Henager for a number of yrs. By then Charlie had moved his Museum to Manchester Murfreesboro area. I never got to meet either of the boys, But, Mr Laudermilk was a true Southern Gentleman.
I still enjoy listening to The Louvin Brothers songs and watching Charlie sing and interview on you tube. would have loved to have met him. The Music industry , friends family and fans will miss him , dearly.

I knew of the Louvin brother's harmonizing sound from our family trips south, once we escaped the NYC radio stations that we got locally - we went "country" the whole vacation. I just wanted the family to know that Mr. Charlie Louvin & earlier, his brother Ira "touched" city slickers too. May Jehovah the God of comfort, grant you comfort in your great loss.

February 01, 2011
I was singing Louvin Brothers' songs back in the fifties with my band on radio and personal venues.
I was in Bell Buckle, TN about eight years ago guesting with the "Front Porch Pickers" on their Saturday radio program from the Bell Buckle Cafe. To close out the show I was asked to do an inspiration song. I chose a song titled "Who At The Door Is Standing." Mr. Louvin was in his museum across the street listening to the radio. He rushed over to the cafe to see who was singing that song. After the show he came to me and asked if I had a recording of that song. I told him "No." He asked if I would record it for him; I said "Yes I will if you will sing a Louvin Brothes' song with me." He did and I did.
I had been in the museum before, but never talked with him. I often reflect on that day and his request for that song, and thinking, Mr. Louvin surely was a religious person. And, of course I wonder if he ever used the song.
My deepest sympathies to the families and to all who loved his music.

The music business has now lost the other half of a renowed duet...the Louvin's.Although both are now gone their music and singing will continue to influence other musicians just as they have influenced musicians down through the ages. What a duo Ira and Charlie made! What songs they wrote(well,Charlie did say that Ira wrote the songs and graciously added Charlie's name as a writer also. I believe like Charlie has said that had Ira not died they would have gotten together as a duo again. But what a legacy of extraordinary music they gave us before they broke up. I can listen to those over and over...in my car going to work, etc. The music is that electrifying to me. So it was so very nice to see Charlie Louvin on Marty Stuart'show just last night. It was taped December 2,2010.How wonderful that he went out doing what he loved...singing. I just think the Country Hall of Fame should have chosen the Louvin Bros. several decades ago. But at least they now are in. RIP Charlie and Ira.
January 30, 2011
I ask Gods Blessings upon all of Charlie,s Family, and I feel with all of my heart that Charlie Louvin will live forever through his music, I love You Charlie and I watched your last performance on the Marty Stuart Show Saturday night, Rest in Peace and sang with God,s Angels! Martha Jackson Danville Alabama
January 30, 2011
The passing of Charlie has left the music industry without a great man and his music with Ira. I have loved the Louvin Bros.music for many decades. No one can take their place. The closet thing to them is the Osborne Bros.I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing Charlie on the Country Reunions. I feel sad for the people who don't know the Louvin Bros. music. They just don't know what they are missing out on. I was so proud to see Charlie on the Marty Stuart show just last night. It was taped on this past Dec. 2. My regret about the Louvin Bros. was that Ira died so young. But Charlie kept the music going. May he and Ira RIP. You both made such an impression all over...not just the States.

Music, when soft voices die

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory—
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.

Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heaped for the beloved's bed;
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.

We are so very sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. I know how much he was loved. We had dinner with Betty and Charlie in Peddler's Village, Pa. after the birth of Cade. We all are grandparents of Cassidy and Cade, Chris and Glenn's children. They talked of Charlie so much, Dick and I felt we knew Charlie very well. Wish we all had lived closer. To the Louvin Family and Friends,

So sorry for the loss of such a talented and compassioned singer like Charlie. The beautiful song "Ira" which was dedicated to his late brother, shows his deep love for others.

Please find comfort from the many wonderful memories he must have shared through the years.
The following thoughts brought me a measure of peace when my dear brother passed: Psalms 34:18_"God is near to those broken at heart..."

You can feel that Death can leave a heartache that nothing can heal, just know that Love can leave a memory that no one can steal.

The Grant Family

My Mom taught me to love country music. She loved the Louvin Brothers and when Charlie and Ira would sing, "I Don't Believe You've Met My Baby", we would both put our ears up against the big radio to hear every word. When I turned 18 and went to work, the first album we purchased was the Louvin Brothers. We saw Charlie in person many times both in Norfolk, Va. and at the Opry. I'm 66 now and still cherish that first 33-1/3 album we purchased. May God comfort Charlie's family, and I'm pretty certain that Charlie & Ira are singing in Heaven to my Mom.

I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Louvin in person, but enjoyed his music for years. He and his brother made real music, not the kind you hear these days. It was a joy to sit around with family and listen to the Louvin brothers. I always thought Mr. Louvin was as great a gentleman as he was a singer, that's the impression he gave. He is resting peacefully now, and his legacy will live on. I wish country music would go back to its roots and to the style of music of Mr. Louvin. He will be missed a lot!
January 27, 2011

January 26, 2011
Charlie Louvin was an icon in country music. He was as kind as he was talented. It was my honor to have known him and be his friend. I surprised him by attending one of his concerts in Oakland, CA. He was performing at a Jazz Hall. I was worried that very few people would attend. My fears were unfounded. The place was sold out. Charlie held the crowd in the palm of his hand for almost two hours. When I talked to him after the concert, he was so happy to see me. He also gave a rose to the mother of my youngest two children. She has never forgotten that act of kindness. He was truly one of a kind and will never be forgotten. R.I.P. Charlie

January 26, 2011
Talk about country music touching your life, Charlies song 'See the Big Man Cry' was on the radio in the 60's, when my parents were divorcing. I was a little kid, and I was witnessing this song in real life. But thats one of the best things about country, there is always a song current on radio, that will deal about a real life situations that people go thru. Even today. Rest in peace Charlie, I enjoyed your many Opry appearances through the years. Dennis Williams Toledo,OH
January 26, 2011

I met Mr Charlie at local Radio station WBMC about 5 or more years ago after he was interviewed by our country station's announcers, Kelly Marlow & Bobby Newby. I bought one of his albums & he autographed it. He was a real gentleman and a great personality and full of enthusiasm for his work, even in his late 70s.
January 26, 2011
Dear Charlie,
It was the thrill of my life to sing with you on the Opry in'94. My heart is truly broken with your passing. I love you and will always remember you.
Bob Bates
January 26, 2011
I'd only recently come to appreciate how great Charlie was as a solo artist. I'd overlooked his 60's and 70's solo work but there are many masterpieces there. His recordings of 'I Just Don't Understand', "Sounds of Goodbye', 'Perfect Stranger', and 'As Much As I Love You', just to name a few were country music at its finest and most soulful and still sound fresh today. I feel as if a dear friend has passed on. I'd always hoped that some day I'd get a chance to meet him. My deepest condolences to his family and many friends.
January 26, 2011
I was speaking on the phone from PA to my son in Tennessee when all of a sudden he said, "Oh no, Charlie Louvin has died". A few years ago he gave me a DVD of Charlie's. He went and saw him and expressed how great he thought Charlie was in the music field. I was saddened to hear of his passing.

I just found out about Charlie's passing; saddens me; loved this man's music; what a voice and what a gentleman; I had the privilege and honor of being able to sing a duet with him "When I Stop Dreaming" in Asheboro, NC, a few years ago; one of the highlights of my life; he was on the same show as "Crash" Craddock; never had anyone treat me any nicer; got his autograph, someone took a picture, but never sent it to me. In any event, the world has lost a great entertaininer and friend. My deepest sympathy to his family, friends, and fans.
January 26, 2011
My son, Ray Martin, told me of Charlie's passing this morning. It brought tears to my eyes. I knew Charlie since the mid-1950s. However, it had been quite some time since I last saw him. But, the last time I saw him backstage at the Opry, it was as though we had seen each other the day before. I will always remember him as a talented, wonderful and kind person. My deepest sympathies to the family.
January 26, 2011

My thoughts and Prayers are with the Families of the Louvin Boys. I was a Disc Jockey back in the late 60's and early 70's and Played alot of their music. From this story, it appeares they had a bond that last over the years even after "Ira's" dead. Their music will live for along time and others will learn to appreicate their style and texture they have added to Country Music.

From his adopted hometown of Viola Tennessee. We will miss Charlie. Viola Valley Country Store is adorned with many memories of Charlies career and as he would drop in from time to time, he would love to tell beautiful stories of his life and time. He always wanted to introduce my wife Angie to Martha White as he wasn't fond of her cornbread. Rest my friend.
