Lt. Barnett had the busiest and most dangerous job in our company. In the rough and gruff world of military deployment he was one of the few who always treated everyone with respect. I don't think I ever hear a mean or angry word escape his lips.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Its been four years today since you left us for a better place. Keep an eye on us in the 256 as we prepare for our future deployment. There's not a day I don't think about you and the other soldiers of our unit that gave the ultimate sacrifice. We will share laughs and jokes again one day.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I cannot believe two years have passed since Chris left us. We have managed to grieve and move past the pain, as he would have wanted. Always the jokster. We miss that about you Chris. I cannot remember a moment in my memory when you were not smiling, laughing, or making someone else do the same. We love you and miss you very much. But we are strong. And we will move on. But we will also remember...never forget. Love always.

Psalm 23

1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

Dear Jody, Bob, and Amanda, and Jim. I am extremely sorry to hear of your loss. I last heard from Chris in early December when I received an email from him only a few weeks before his death. Chris and I served in the Army together in Colorado, where we were roommates for a short time. Chris was one of the finest soldiers I have ever known and was one of my best friends. While we had drifted apart, I always enjoyed the chance to catch up with him and enjoy his sense of humor. He even took the time to travel to my wedding and be one of my groomsman. Since we usually only spoke once or twice a year, it was only this week that I tried to send him an email and got it returned. I then discovered the horrible news. I am so sorry for your loss. I have lost one of my most valued friends. If there is anything I can do for any of you, please let me know. I would love to share stories of such a great friend. Thank you,
Joe Bradley

To the Family:
LT Barnett was my LT. He was more than that though, he was like my father, brother and friend. He taught RED Platoon how to survive, all through FT. HOOD, FT. IRWIN, and in IRAQ. Serving with him was the greatest honor I have ever had. On bad nights in IRAQ during patrols he would always come up to me and tell me that what we are doing is worth it. I wish he was still here as his presense comforted us and gave us the strength to carry on.

Chris and I were friends several years ago at LSU. We worked together in the LSU START program. Chris was so talented and everyone just loved being around him. I was shocked to hear that his life was cut so short. I pray that we all remember him by living our lives doing things that we love to do and doing them with passion.

I never had the pleasure of meeting your son, but I would like to say that he is definitely a Hero. If it wasn't for him and the hundreds of thousands of men and women fighting this war, we would not be a Free America. I know he gave his life for me and for millions like me and I would like to thank Him and you his parents for all your courage. My heart and prayers go out to you at this time. Hopefully someday all the men and women will come home, safely if God permits it. I have a nephew in law in Iraq and I worry about him and his family and pray that he makes it home o.k. Let's all pray that this war is over soon.

I cannot even begin to express the overwhelming grief that we feel at the loss of our friend, Chris. I can honestly say that I have never met a more decent, loving, and selfless person in my life. He was a soldier, a leader, a patriot, and a very dear friend.

Amanda, you will always remain in our prayers. Chris's unwaivering love for you will never fade, but remain eternal and ever-present through your family and friends.

"Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For you are with me." Have faith. God will provide for you, for Chris, and for both of your families. We love you all so much.

I lost my fiance` PFC David Burridge in September. There is little that can be said to comfort those who knew and loved Chris. But what always helped me was knowing that he died defending something, his country and those he loved. My heart goes out to the family and loved ones. Keep your head up and his spirit alive.

December 29, 2004
I am the aunt of Chris' longtime friend, Scott Ital. My husband and I, along with most of my family met Chris on two occasions. One was when he and Scott went canoeing with us about two years ago. Another time he went with our entire family to eat at Middendorf's. There was another time I spoke to him when he was working at a computer company. I am sorry I was not able to know Chris better. He was a very nice, warm individual that had a great sense of humor. I know that Scott thought the world of him and because of that I know he must have been 'one of the good guys'. I am truly sorry for your loss.
December 29, 2004
May God, comfort each of you during this time of great sorrow.
December 29, 2004
may god bless and comfort each of you during this time of sorrow. I know he will be greatly missed and to his wife, may god continue to surround you with his angels.
December 29, 2004
I had the pleasure and honor of working with Chris on the "web development team" at the Dept. of Transportation. I'll always remember him for his indefatigable smile that seemed to accompany him everywhere. He was the kind of person whom his company was always welcomed, his opinion was valued and his trustworthiness was unquestionable.
His “military stories” will always be remembered. Sometimes you were never quite sure if he was “pulling your leg” while telling them. Yet, based on my memory of the military, his stories sounded just crazy enough to be true. He had a knack for always finding something interesting to share with his co-workers, which would always be accompanied by his “grin”. His grin, of course, would seem to make the story that much funnier or unusual.
In our numerous discussions about the military, I was always glad that he was “on our side”, and grateful for his continued service.
December 29, 2004
My thoughts and prayers are with the Barnett family at this time. Thank you to Chris for his sacrifice that will help insure my daughter and the millions of men women and children who will benefit from this greatest of all sacrifices.
December 29, 2004
