I was sorry to hear of the passing of the legendary giant of the Philadelphia Daily News and champion of Irish freedom and unification, Chuck Stone. Jack McKinney enticed me into reading Chuck's columns and it is debatable where I learned more of the culture, history, and language of Ireland, not to mention an education on everything else! Another great person has left us way too soon! They do not make them like him anymore much is the pity!
Chuck was my best friend for more than three decades. I spent many, many days visiting with him, and NOT ONE of them was less than Great Fun. He loved life, he loved people, he did not mind hard work, he strove for excellence in all he did, and he had a good time doing every task that confronted him. I learned from him every day we were together, and his breadth of interests--sociology, education, journalism (print and broadcast), criminal justice, urban affairs, political science, law, censorship, theology and on and on, made him a wonderful educator to all who met and listened to him. God never made a finer man. Compassionate, caring, dedicated to civil rights, justice, equality for all. He accomplished so much in his lifetime, and his *legacy*--left in the minds and hearts of so many of his students, friends, and family members--will endure for a long, long time.

A life well lived. Thank you for changing my life. -Lisa Myers, participant in the Urban Journalism Workshop, 1986.
I became friends with Chuck and Louise during their tenure at the University of Delaware. While there, Chuck helped to launch and name the University of Delaware African American Coalition (UDAAC), an activist organization of faculty and staff that still thrives. Chuck was instrumental in guiding us through the process of protesting unfair hiring and retention practices. All policies were changed due to our activism. Chuck was brilliant, hilarious, and a true gentleman throughout the process. We have missed him. May he rest in peace.
