The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Daniel, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Juan, Juanita & Family:
My God be with you at this time of need. Know that Daniel is a HERO and that because of him and others like him we are able to live a life free of fear. I know you must be proud of him for what he believed in. I only remember him as a little boy but it sounds like he grew up to be one heck of a young man; you are responsible for the way he grew up, so be proud and know that he is looking down on you. He does not want you to be unhappy; he wants you to live as he would have lived.

We still think of you and your family and what it meant to have you (Juanita) look after our precious treasure (Daniella). You not only were/are a great Mother but you were also the BEST baby sitter ever. Your love always showed. Be strong and God Speed....

I know that Daniel and my brother are watching over us -- Our Angels -- and that one day we will be with them once more.

Daniel Gomez,
The world was not great enough for your heart! As the wind blows with rage tonight,
I understand this madness and why you had to go. Your soul so beautiful and calm,
that war and its anger, with your love in the midst of evil, and termoil...

Tonight I hear about your death and I weep, for what?
Your soul has gone to a much greater place and yet I weep...
For I wanted time with you. See your smile, see your presence among others...
The joy you bring in others hearts...

This moon is bright tonight Daniel,
but it is not easily seen through the dark clouds.
I think it symbolizes your love and you Daniel.
You always shining bright, and yet it is blocked from some peoples view,
but Daniel they werent looking...

Daniel I saw through it I saw the beauty love and the passion you had for this life!
There are no more words left to say only silence in hopes that the wind or some sound from above
will bring me a hello from my Army Angel. Specialist Daniel Enrique Gomez

In loving memory of an awesome man
A Hero a Friend...
I love you Daniel! You will never be forgotten!
your home girl,
Val

I did not know Daniel, but my daughter knew him. She is in the Air Force and was deployed in Afghanistan. Daniel wrote to her through e-mails. She told me that he always found a way to cheer her up even when he was in a much more dangerous situation. She said it made her want to work harder because of soldiers like Daniel. As a mother, I want to thank Daniel for helping my daughter through her deployment. And, as a mother, my heart grieves for your loss. May you be comforted in knowing that you raised such an fine, selfless, caring son.

Prayer of Abandonment

Father,

Whatever you may do, I thank you:
I am ready for all, I accept all.

Let only your will be done in me,
and in all your creatures -
I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul:
I offer it to you with all the love of my heart, for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself, to surrender myself into your hands without reserve, and with boundless confidence, for you are my Father.

My deepest condolences to your family. I did not know Daniel but my daughter graduated with him. She spoke very highly of him. Just remember he died doing what he loved best. He did not die in vain. He is in a better place now. Daniel will always look upon you in every thing you do now and in the future. When you feel that hand upon your shoulder it is his letting you know he is there. Again my deepest condolences.

Armadillo/Tiny,

We are so sorry to hear that Daniel is no longer with us on Earth, but we know that he is in a much better place now. It is so hard to phantom the loss of a family member as we are going through the loss of one of our own as well. It all seems like it is such a bad dream and we are waiting to wake up, but in reality we must realize the Lord works in mysterious ways and he knows when he wants his children back in his hands. Daniels touched so many lives while with us for such a short period. As we grief for our lost ones, please always remember the place that they are resting now is much easier for them. We will always treasure the precious moments with our loved ones, those memories no one can ever take. We are very proud of Daniel and his accomplishments. You as his parents did a wonderful job raising him and you are commended for an admiral job. Adrianna our daughter who is in the Navy and one of his very best friends who was there during ROTC competions, also would like to express her condulences. She doesn't have access to a computer as much, however we know her prayers are with Daniel and his family. Daniel as you look down on us now as our guardian angle keep us strong and forever in your heart - we love and miss you...JAWS, JoJo, Jeffrey and Adrianna Wilson

I would like to say thank you, in this day and age it is hard to raise up our children to know the importance of honor and sacrifice. Your brave son heard the call and without hesitation joined his brothers in combat. My son was in Iraq, at the very place your soldier lost his life just last year. I can only imagine your pain at this time and want again to say THANK YOU for raising this young man with the courage and integrity to join our Armed Forces. His sacrifice will never be forgotten and we will NEVER FORGET!!!!! May God hold you in his loving arms and grant you peace through his Holy Spirit.
