Missing you was the hardest the first few years and the shedding of many tears with your little family created the path to healing. As each day passes it gets easier. I have many opportunities, as your son's grandmother, to see you whenever I want. Your boys are a spitting image of you and their determination to always get 'Squared away' in everything they do tells me that even from above, you will make sure they are where they need to be and that yours and the Creator's guiding hand will help Veronica be the best mom she can possibly be as she is, already. You are not forgotten. ~Mom-in-law

Remembering our last kisses and hugs..The mommy still kissing the babies for the daddy and telling them daddy always loved and missed them! For the courage to leave your country so that you can be part of protecting it so that others can rest in peace at night. To Veronica for having the strength and courage to move on after this tragedy and devote yourself to your boys. Both are acts of heroism. God remembers and rewards.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am the memories that you keep.
I am the whisper in winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the warm gentle spring rain.
I am the bright star on the north side.
I am with the soaring eagles that glide.
I am the rays of the moonlight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am watching you from the sky.

Wow, they still have this up. That is so good to know. We will remember always the father you were to them boys and the husband you were to our daughter. Praying with you today as we light your candle and set it by the window. *Waving that small US flag.

3 years today... still feels like yesterday that we lost you and Kyle. I've been tearing up since yesterday but we all know you're with the Creator up above watching over everyone that loves and misses you. My family will be travelling to your grave sites today to light a candle and cigarette... Our handsome angels and our ever lasting hero's Darby Morin and Kyle Whitehead...

As the 22nd of Aug. nears, thoughts and prayers are much appreciated. Means so much to the boys and I that Darby is remembered. We love hearing how great a soldier he was, as any boy would love a good army story, the boys eyes light up when I relay stories about their daddy...Our hero <3

The day after I got back to the States for mid-tour leave my dad showed me a copy of US Today with the news from Charkh of your death and asked if I knew you. I'll never forget the firefight you were in with me... it got dicey but you did a great job, Soldier. You will never be forgotten!

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

I love the pictures, Veronica. Missing Darby so much, even now. Bring those boys home soon. There is some kind of memorial in Regina tomorrow for fallen warriors of Saskatchewan. We know you're gonna be alright as those boys will be a constant reminder of their father; how special is that?

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

To the Morin Family,

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. Darby shall never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

Every second you sacrificed
I hold you in my prayers.
So with one hand on my heart and the other in the air;

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms CPL Darby Morin. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Darby. And to Darby it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Darby, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,353 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Darby’s family and loved ones.

May Darby rest safely now, in God's Care and know that he is a True American hero, that shall Never Be Forgotten. May the Peace of the Lord be with the Morin family.

There will Never Be Enough Ways, to Humbly Thank these Young Heroes, for their Sacrifices, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

"And God shall wipe away every tear from their eyes,
there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying,
there shall be no more pain.
For the former things have passed away."
~ Revelations 21:4 ~

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Cpl. Morin, and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of freedom and liberty. Sadly, America has lost one of its finest heroes, the U.S. has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage, which they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Cpl. Morin has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends, of Cpl. Morin, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to carry on. Just as you were always with him when he was deployed overseas, know that he will always be with you wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Cpl. Morin was a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Cpl. Morin the flag of the United States of America has your blood sewn into the fabric; it shall wave forever in your honor.

Freedom requires sacrifice the protected will never know.

~To Darby's Family~
My Deepest Sympathy going out too Irene Fineday and Darby's Wife Veronica and his two son's all of Sgt. Darby's closest friends. Darby was very close to my family ever since he was a little boy. Sgt. Darby was close to all of my sons Jordan, Merlin, Arnie and Troy Morin. Every time Darby returned to visit he always made sure he visited the boys. We as a family are deeply saddened by his sudden passing. Out hearts and prayers go out to his Mother Irene, my son's know how it is to lose a Son and brother, for only a short seven years ago since we had our own loss. Be strong and pray always and there you will find comfort. To Darby's Mom Irene please know that we are always here for you. We loved Darby so much and he will be sadly missed. We believe that Sgt. Darby Morin achieved what he wanted too in his short life by persueing his dreams to become a soldier. He was a brave young man and that is something that will bring you comfort. We hope the words expressed of our deepest sympathy lessens the pain of your loss. Please know that my son's and my daughter's feel this loss too. We loved Darby and we will miss his easy laughter, his gentle way he had with people amd the way he loved to give hugs every time he returned home. Darby will be sadly missed. May the Creator give strength to endure this loss and keep your home fires burning.

Though I did not know your son I do know your pain and sorrow. It is with a heavy heart that I extend to you my deepest sorrow for your loss.
May you take comfort in knowing that though your son may seem far away, his spirit is closer than ever. His spirit lives free as he joins my own son in a very special place in heaven. They have gallantly served and sacrificed all for the sake of a peaceful world. They do this with the spirit that only true warriors can, and do. It is with tremendous pride that I thank you for your sons service and extend my deepest condolences for your loss.

To Darby's family and friends:

My condolences to all of you. May you have a speedy recovery of healing. Then you will enjoy the memories of him. I have a special place in my heart for the men and women risking their lives to protect the rest of us. I don't know Darby or the families, but wanted to express my sadness in his passing. Take care to all and God bless.
August 26, 2009
My deepest sympathy and condolences goes out to Sgt.Morin's wife, children, family, friends, and army buddies. My fiance called me with the awful news from Afghanistan. Although I didn't know Morin, he is a good friend of my fiances and it absolutely broke my heart. You've been in my thoughts and prayers ever since, I cannot imagine the awful heartbreak you've experienced. He's a huge part of everyone's lives over there and left all the guys in shock and grieving. He was known for his hard work, keeping everyones spirits up, going out of his way to help his buddies, and one heck of a good haircutter. He'll live on always in their memories and hearts. They had a ceremony for him in FOB Altimur and I told my fiance to make sure someone took video/pictures to send to family. Please find some small comfort in knowing he'll never again know pain or sadness on this awful earth, because now he's in a place of pure serenity and happiness with the Lord, watching over you and walking with you all the days of your life, until you join him again. Again, I'm so so sorry for your huge loss.
There is a website you might be interesting in looking at, it's for newly widowed military wives.
