Derricks poem.

Stepping out from the shadows and into the light,

away from fear away from freight

feeling no sorrow just simple relief

the pain I felt it was only brief…

remember my smile my big hazel eye's

remember my love it never dies

remember my laugh, my big broud smile

remember my love it goes on for miles

I'm here in spirit in your heart and soul

I hope these thoughts might condole

Your loneliness, your sadness and your pain

But remember when times are at there worst

Just think of my smile first, and know I'm watching over you….

RIP...Derrick Gwaltney

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

I thiink of you all the time...High School was so amazing having you there and being with you...and dont let me forget CP and all the times we spent going from gate to gate and the fun we had that summer. I will never be able to watch Lord Of The Rings withought thinking about the nights we watched it in the attic and how you scared the crap outta me throughout. Nor can i ever forget the games of Hand and Foot with you. Its so hard to say see you again soon in Heaven. I know you are watching down on me and you are with me with all i do in my military career...along with when i deploy to afghanistan in June. I love you buddy...You are gone, but never forgotten. You are my angel, my inspiration, best friend, and my hero.

December 18, 2009
Derrick,
Happy Birthday in Heaven. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Birthdays In Heaven

Are there birthdays in Heaven?
Does the angel blow his horn?
Announcing to everybody
That this is the day you were born?

Can the stars be your balloons
And angel food your cake?
Presents wrapped in moonbeams
All the angels helped to make.

Birthdays meant so much to you
They were always a big deal
Birthday presents, lots of friends
And perhaps a special meal.

So we'll whisper a little prayer today
Asking everyone up above
To sing you a Happy Birthday song
And give you all our love.

Father we entrust our brother Derrick to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Derrick will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

FOLLOW THE RAINBOW TO HEAVEN.
=======================================

A SOLDIER HAD DIE OUT ON THE
BATTLEFIELD;

BROKEN HEARTS ARE WEEPING FOR
THEM,

BUT TAKE COMFORT OF KNOWING
THAT GOD HAD SENT THEM A
RAINBOW FROM HEAVEN;

THE SOULS OF THE SOLDIERS
HAVE GONE TO THERE HOME
IN HEAVEN,

OUR LOVED ONE'S HAS FOLLOW
GOD'S LOVELY RAINBOW IN THE
SKY;

ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE
SKY.

THAT LEADS ALL THE WAY TO THE
OTHER END OF THE LORD'S
HOUSE IN HEAVEN,

SO JUST KEEP ON PRAYING AND
TRUST THAT GOD WILL SEND US
THAT SAME RAINBOW IN THE SKY;

WHERE OUR LOVED ONE'S ARE
WAITING FOR YOU AND FOR ME AT
THE END OF THE RAINBOW IN
HEAVEN.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms PFC. Derrick D. Gwaltney To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Derrick. And to Derrick it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while deployed with the U.S. Army in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Derrick, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,341 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Derrick’s family and loved ones.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Pfc. Gwaltney and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of freedom and liberty. Sadly, America has lost one of its finest heroes, the U.S. has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage, which they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Pfc. Gwaltney has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends, of Pfc. Gwaltney, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to carry on. Just as you were always with him when he was deployed overseas, know that he will always be with you wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Pfc. Gwaltney was a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

"Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid, they have earned our undying gratitude. America will never, ever forget their sacrifices."

Pfc. Gwaltney the flag of the United States of America has your blood sewn into the fabric; it shall forever wave in your honor.

Freedom requires sacrifice the protected will never know.

My deepest condolences on your tremendous loss. My son is in the Navy and while the Navy is different than the Army, other military families are sharing your pain. Without brave and unselfish men like Pfc Derrick Gwaltney, I would not have the freedom I enjoy every day. It's my duty now to thank him and pay respect to him and his family for their ultimate sacrifice. While I never met Derrick, I can tell he was truly a remarkable young man. You have much to be proud of. God bless you in your time of need and bring you peace.
December 03, 2009
My Deepest and Most Heartfelt Sympathy goes out to the family of PFC. Derrick D. Gwaltney, with profound gratitude for this Brave Young Soldier's Courage, Dedication and Service to our Country and for Freedom.
May your young hero, rest safely now, in God's Care and may the Peace of God be with the Gwaltney family.
I am the Sister of such a young hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago

"Surely He hath borne our grief,
and carried our sorrows."
~ Isaiah 53:4 ~

I pray that you find comfort and strength, in the beautiful memories of times spent with Derrick and quietly and gently, may healing come, with each new day.
You are in my thoughts and my prayers.
