For Don,
"An impossible act to follow".

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

August 26, 2009
Thanks Don, 60 minutes was a program that my late father and I watched together even when I was a child. It was relevant then and now. Your guidance assured that the best team of reporter's and producers gave us solid fearless journalism. Beyond that, I understand that you were a tremendous person. My condolences to your family. Your legacy lives on.

I worked with Don when the CBS Evening News went to a half hour back in 1963. His energy and drive and quick intelligence virtually glowed. He was amazing and made such a contribution to the TV industry. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. My heart goes out to the Hewitt family.

To Marilyn and the rest of the Hewitt family,

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences on Don's passing.

Nobody told a story like Don. He lived through history, created history and will forever be well-remembered in history. Don was as tough as nails, but had the softest heart.

I am so lucky to have lived in the time of Don Hewitt; my friend, a mentor and someone who gave meaning to the word integrity. Rest in peace old friend, you are missed but will never be forgotten.

Man's creativity even as imperfect as we are now, is amazing. Sadly we live on a few years and pass away. Just think of what we will be able accomplish we we are perfect in mind and body.

That is something the Bible promises.

"Eternal rest give to him, O lord, and may he rest in peace forver" A great show each Sunday night.

60 Minutes is one of THE most informative news programs on television hands down. Mr. Hewitt set the standard which many in the industry pattern themselves from.

I can remember being 10 years old and watching 60 minutes. Somehow the show caught the attention of a kid who would cringe when Dad turned on the six o'clock news every night, but 60 minutes kept me glued for both the entertainment and the news stories. 41 years later I am still glued to CBS on Sunday nights.

Mr. Hewitt, and his stopwatch brought the world to so many of us. He was a blessing to us all.
August 20, 2009
TV news isn't the same with all the real PROS passing. My sympathy to the family.

Great visionary and very brave in many many segments that were far ahead of the times. The tv newsmagazine business needs someone to attempt to do what he did then now. Deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Hewitt.
August 19, 2009
The greatest generation of people is leaving us... I am so sad, as Mr. Hewitt was in my Dad's generation. I am 55 years old and so sad about losing all of these great Men and Women who were known as the "Greatest Generation". I hope our young people are up for the challenge...My sincere prayers and thoughts are with the Hewitt family and also to all the journalists who respected this man so greatly.

With Sympathy,
