To the Payne Family,

We extend our deepest condolences to you for the loss of such a great giant in our midst. Our mother Eugenia Stevenson, former Liberian Ambassador to the Wash. D.C. extolled his praises and how dynamic he was to the Liberian People in helping to pass a critical piece of legislation at a most needed time for Liberians in the USA.
It was a very brave step, and thanks to him many lives could continue uninterrupted. May light perpetual shine on him.

Sincerely Yours,
Gwendolyn and Yvonne Stevenson

Bill and the Payne Family,
It made me sad to learn that Donald had gone on to Heaven because he will leave such a void here on earth. Since the early 70s, our paths have crossed at many political and social intersections in Newark, Trenton and Washington, DC. In all associations, I knew him to be a dedicated, humble and highly respected public servant. He has absolutely left the world a better place. To our benefit, his memory and his work will live on.
March 18, 2012
To the Payne family my wife Pat and I offer our deepest sympathy at the passing of our dear friend Donald. We have watched him progress from one successful endeavor to another, all with grace and dignity. Thank you for sharing him with us for so long. He shall never be forgotten.

To The Payne Family.

Deepest condolences from my family.

Words are inadequate to express how you showed your unconditioned love for the People of the Republic of Liberia - West Africa.

Thank you so much Congressman Payne for all you have done for us. You will surely be missed.

To Council President Donald M. Payne, Jr., Wanda, Nicole, Uncle Bill, Aunt Kathryn, Craig, Shakir, Don Payne, III, Jack, Yvonne and Samir; thanks a million for sharing your father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather with us. Liberians will forever remain grateful to you.

One thing I remember and will really miss about Congressman Payne is his "caring for people globally" and his "good sense of humor".

We all loved him but God loves him best. He is in a better place resting in the Bosom of the Heavenly Father. May his Soul and the Souls of all Faithful departed rest in perfect peace. May light perpetual shine on him. AMEN

Congressman Donald Payne: We have thanked you and commended your good works during your life, but in the aftermath of your passing, we send a heartfelt Posthumous Tribute and Salute to you on a Job Well Done during one entire life of service. You have served so many citizens so well and still had the compassion to make life better for animals through your admirable support and passage into law of HR 137 (2007). To the Payne Family, "Let your hearts not be troubled". Donald will always be New Jersey's Congressman, but now he has also assumed his new calling as "Heaven's Congressman", as he eternally rests from his earthly labors. Rest Well, Donald, Our Longtime Friend.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

My sympathy to the Payne family and his Congressional staff, but mostly the staff, as former staffer myself, just remember you all we blessed, to have serve and work for such a great man. A man, that was elected by the people of your Congressional district, that allow all of you to serve with him. So remember for years to come, you all are apart of the great history.

A man, that was the first Afro American elected in the great state of New Jersey. A man, that would fly around the world, to save another man's children, a man, who would save another man's country, regardless to the gun fires by others. Oh God, what a MAN, the world has lost. Donald Payne, was just great man. God bless!

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
