FOLLOW THE RAINBOW TO HEAVEN.

A SOLDIER HAD DIE OUT ON THE
BATTLEFIELD;

BROKEN HEARTS ARE WEEPING FOR
THEM,

BUT TAKE COMFORT OF KNOWING
THAT GOD HAD SENT THEM A
RAINBOW FROM HEAVEN;

THE SOULS OF THE SOLDIERS
HAVE GONE TO THERE HOME
IN HEAVEN,

OUR LOVED ONE'S HAS FOLLOW
GOD'S LOVELY RAINBOW IN THE
SKY;

ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE
SKY.

THAT LEADS ALL THE WAY TO THE
OTHER END OF THE LORD'S
HOUSE IN HEAVEN,

SO JUST KEEP ON PRAYING AND
TRUST THAT GOD WILL SEND US
THAT SAME RAINBOW IN THE SKY;

WHERE OUR LOVED ONE'S ARE
WAITING FOR YOU AND FOR ME AT
THE END OF THE RAINBOW IN

Perez,

There is not one day that goes by that I do not think of you! You are always in my heart and in my head. The sacrifice you gave for this War and more for this Country will never be forgotten! I miss you dearly and I am as proud of you today as I was on that deployment. It was so clear how well rounded and courageous you were, and you inspired all of us to be better leaders. Thank you for being my sister, my friend and now my Angel. As my little Emalee grow, I pray that I can teach her to be half the young woman you were, more than that I pray that she knows exactly what her mission in life is and why. Thank you for everything and girl I miss you as much today as I did on 12 Sept. 2006. I love you Em

PRIMITA,

As veteran's day approaches, I thank the following family members for their service (these are the ones I know about)- Victor Cruz, Victor Cruz Jr., Hector Cruz, Daniel Perez! However, YOU dear cousin, EMILY PEREZ, paid the highest price and gave the most to this country... you gave YOUR LIFE!!! I hope that as we continue to battle external battles with the world, and internal battles in this country of racism, prejudice and hatred, that people realize that OUR FAMILY, lost one of the BEST... we lost YOU! Our family, your parents, gave their precious child so that the rest of the country could live with freedoms and human rights. Like our Savior who gave his only son so that the rest of us could be saved.

WE HONOR YOU, WE CHERISH YOU, WE RESPECT YOU... WE MISS YOU.

You help to keep the light glowing in our lives.

Love you Cuz... Lorraine

Her family should be proud. She accomplished more in her few years on earth than some of us will in a lifetime. Many prayers for our military and thanks to their families.

But today of all days, is when my heart aches and rejoices simultaneously because you protected our freedom and in doing so, we lost your presence here on Earth. I can't wait to see you in Heaven, to finally meet you face to face.

It was my privilege to attend a memorial ceremony for Lt. Perez that was held in Harriman NY on 5-1-2011.I met her wonderful parents, heard the West Point chorus sing and saw a road dedicated to her. Since then I have read up on her, watched some footage of her in West Point and in short become a fan. Yesterday I heard of Osamas killing and all I could think of was--"OH yea, Emily, this ones for you" ~~with love & thanks Roberta Cooper-Pol Monroe, NY

Almost impossible to believe that Emily would only now have been 27 had she lived. I will always be sorry that she wasn't given more years on earth - it seems that often the best of the best are taken too young - and Emily was certainly amongst the best of the best.
Every good wish to Emily's family and friends - this special girl, amazing daughter, loved friend, outstanding soldier and talented leader of her troops - she was all this, and more, and she will not be forgotten, even by those not fortunate to know her during her lifetime.
Rest in Peace Emily.
September 14, 2010
To the Perez family - I'm sorry for your loss. I learned about Emily's ultimate sacrifice through a West Point AOG message, and I was really touched by her story. I understand your pain; I lost my brother Dan, an Army veterinarian, in Iraq in May 2006. Our country is lucky to have so many people like Dan and Emily. Another veteran, Mike Ehredt, is running across the USA planting flags every mile for our fallen soldiers. Emily's flag is somewhere in Colorado, as is Dan's. You can learn more about this by searching for "PROJECT AMERICA RUN". God bless.

Your daughter has left a lasting impression on my heart. You must be so proud of such an accomplished, talented and compassionate woman who gave all of herself to life. She has been an inspiration to me since I first read about her death. I will never forget her for her ultimate sacrifice.

I don't know Lt. Perez but happened to read an article in the Umoja, an African American newspaper in Madison, WI. and was very moved by it. Her selflessness (donating marrow right before her deployment)and bravery (leading her troops from the front) can serve to remind and inspire all men and women, whether they have served or not. I will show the article to my 15 year old daughter as a wonderful example of how women can be and do anything they choose to and do it as well or better then men. My condolences go to her family and friends. It is comforting to know that wonderful and upstanding people such as Lt. Perez are representing our country and (sadly) making the ultimate sacrifice so that we all may have the freedom to pursue our dreams.

2LT Perez,

During a visit to Aabel Hall at the AMEDD C&S this week and I came upon your name in the memorial book. I am currently attending OBC, walking the same halls you did and preparing to take the same exams and attend the same FTXs. You will never be forgotten.

Today, we had a briefing by a LTC and he said that a young lieutenant once told him that she had a hard time learning the Soldier's Creed but that if she really believed in it, it became easier. You lived the creed, you gave your all.

As we, new lieutenants, enter new careers, leading the sons and daughters of America, I pray that we can aspire to be like you. You will always be my inspiration. You and yours will always be on my heart.

Remembering the service, courage and sacrifice of 2Lt. Emily Perez - Iraq, September 12, 2006.

Emily, everyone misses you, your smiling face and your laughter; your ability to see the best in people and situations, your willingness to always lend a helping hand and your skills as a Leader. May you rest in Peace.

It's been awhile but yet your memories are so near and dear to my heart. I am heading back to Iraq and this time without you, but the most bizarre thing is that I will be stationed on your FOB and work at the clinic you once worked. You and I met at OBC, went to Ft Hood together, went to Iraq, and throughout that journey we became wonderful friends for a reason. Now I get to go see FOB Kalsu through your eyes and relive your memories everyday when I walk past your photo to enter the clinic. Maybe our lives are so destined that I may end up in your old room. Em, I miss you dearly and I'm grateful that our paths continue to cross. I love you!

LT. Sorry it has taken me so long to write to you. I never got to tell you sorry for the minor arguement we had the day before we went out that night you passed away. I never got to say thank you when you and SGT Hernandez helped treat me when my truck got blown up on our way to Baghdad. I never minded getting assigned to provide rear gun support. I haven't forgotten you even with my brain injury you will always be in my heart. I will see you again LT.

I am proud to announce that the 2LT EMily JT Perez American Legion Post #36 has received a Temporary Charter as of 6 July. This is the typical process. I can't thank Emily's parents enough for allowing us to continue her legacy with the honor of using her name and committing to the causes she stood for.
July 06, 2009
I was so touched by your daughter and her accomplishments, although I never knew her, that when I was writing a chapter on gender for a social problems textbook, I began it with Emily's story. She was an amazing woman. God bless her and all that serve.
June 11, 2009
Your daughter is a hero. We owe her and you gratitude for her service to our country.

My condolences to you all.

Dearest Beloved Family,
We attended the ceremony in Washington-Maryland to honor your EMILY PEREZ. I am a MARINE so touched by the excellence of your daughter and my MOTHER, an educator in the public schools, retired now was greatly moved also. We have left one uncle, a purple heart decorated, age 90 from the ARMY, who was on the beach in Normandy World War II. Two uncles have gone on from World War I and World War II from Mississippi and Chicago. We have two Air Force cousins living age 76 and 61. Your great loss is historic and I will keep your great daughter in my heart as I continue this life's journey. Rest my child and live in peace all family as God is the Commander of us all.

Nature

As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.

Could someone please let the rest of us know how we can get a hero bracelet memoralizing Lt. Perez and also a photograph. This young woman has inspired the world and has left a lasting impression in my heart.

I think of her when my times of tough and I wonder what she would say to inspire. She really would not have to say anything. She stood for everything that is right and good, and she has inspired me to be a better person and have a passionate sympathy for those who must miss her so much. Brave soldier, you will live on forever!

This is a very beautiful guestbook. It brought tears to my eyes, to learn of this fierce angel leaving so soon...as time goes, we learn that time, is of very little importance after all. We learn that time will con't to pass, and is short for the great, and long for the slothful. I pray her spirit is at peace and happily overlooking her "Dream Team" as they continue through their own life's journey. I thank God for Emily T. Perez
March 10, 2009
This one still brings tears to my eyes. Though I never met her, I keep a picture of Emily on my office wall to give me strength and to “See me through”.

How I found out about this beautiful woman was through a vendor who had a poster-size picture of her West Point graduation for sale. Living in the DC area, I remembered the press covering stories of her graduation and all of her major accomplishments. So I decided to “Google” her name when I got home and was in complete shock when I learned of her death. The first thing I said was Why? It always saddens me when anyone, such as Emily, leaves us so early. So sad, so sad…

May God keep a watchful eye out for her as she continues through her journey in Heaven. Though I was taught never to question God’s will and plan He has for us all, I will always question what might have been.

Hi Vicki and Daniel:
It's me again..Ethel. I see that Em's oil painting done by "THE GOAT LADY" (as she so affectionately refers to herself), has found it's way to her Photo Album here at Legacy. I remember you telling me that when you first looked at it, it really did not look like Em.

I decided to sign her Guestbook today because I had been out of town on the 19th in Revival, and didn't have my laptop with me. But I didn't forget her birthday. She would have been 26, and who knows what the world would have been like today if she had still been here...a black President, and Em too!!!! Too much power in one country!!!

One thing I truly thank God for..Em made an impact on this nation and this world, everyone whose life she touched. In 23 years too....some people live 83 years, and nobody ever is affected by that life. Em crammed a whole lot of living and giving into her short 23 years, and nobody who has ever known her will forget her.

I encountered a website last year where a young lady was writing in her blog about her experience at WestPoint; and how there was one black girl who "gave her hell" night and day, but that this girl was the driving force behind her sticking with it, and graduating.

Today she is stationed in Washington DC in the Pentagon; and she said she owed her work ethic, patience and concern to the person who taught it to her. I wrote to her and asked her if the black girls name was 2nd Lt. Emily Perez. She wrote back about a week later, Yes, that was her.....Em still lives on...and on.
Love you

Sorry for your loss, and greatly admire your sacrifice.
November 06, 2008
I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Lt. Perez. Sad to say that I was 02 vehicles behind her when she made the ultimate sacrafice for God, freedom and country. I was reminded of this tragic event by my father who passed away 01 week ago. Had it not been for his advice and guidance in the following days I would have left Iraq immediately. At the time he stessed that the best way to honor and remember our friends and collegues was to continue to serve. Very wise words indeed. I will never forget Emily. A fine officer and lady to the end. A true rising star.
October 05, 2008
To the Family and Friends of 2nd Lt. Perez:

It is with honor that I sign this guest book. When I saw on yesterday that my son JROTC 2nd Lt. Dickerson was performing with his drill team (FMA) at a competition held at the Diversity Military Expo named in her honor***Second Lt. Emily Perez Memorial Drill Team Competition/Exhibition - Hosted by Oxon Hill High School (MD) & The Cadet Officer Leadership Program*** . I said this most be a special lady. Then when I read the Obituary I saw that she was a member of the same church that my sons and nephew attended for daycare.

As a U.S. Army and a Army JROTC mom and a member of the same County I would like to say Thanks for sharing 2nd LT. Perez with us.

God Bless and you all are in my prayers today, tomorrow and forever.
September 15, 2008
Emily:

It was just two years ago that you wer taken from us all. You made such an impact on those who knew you, as well as those who did not but came to know you through the stories told by those privelaged to know you personally. Not a day goes by we do not think of you, and just as CPT Nelson does, I think of you every time I out the uniform on. Your smile and laughter is definitely missed. We love you and miss you very much.
September 15, 2008
I have not forgotten. Hero is she, Lt. Emily T. Perez!!!!!
September 13, 2008
Emily, as yesterday marked the second year of your passing, it is still unconceivable to me that you're gone. Daily I sit and think that you're going to walk through the door or maybe I'll hear that out burst of laugher like only you can. Such an amazing young lady but definitely a leader. You have left so many great memories with so many people and I'm proud to have crossed your path. The world is a better place because of you and so many others who dare to make a difference the way you did. I miss you girl but I know that I'll see you again.
September 12, 2008
Vicki and Daniel,
I can barely believe it has been 2 years ago today that our family and the world lost Emily. I can't explain why I feel compelled to write in the guestbook today when I haven't before. I come here every month to just read the entries and stay "in touch" with Emily. Every month I am more and more amazed at what a rare and true gift Emily was. Because of the type of woman you raised her to be (modest and truly unselfserving), not even the family knew exactly and to what degree an amazing, rare and inspirational a woman Emily was. I cannot express the pride I feel to be able to call her my neice. I speak with her often and she knows how much I regret that I got to know her so much better with her passing than I did while she was here. She knows that the most valuable lesson she taught me was that none of us has all the time in the world for later. We need to live and love in the now because sometimes there isn't a later. Please know how much I love each of you.
September 12, 2008
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

I did not know Emily, but I am remembering
her service. She is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

September 12 marks the anniversary of the death of 2nd Lt. Emily Perez. On that day her family, her friends, her country and her Corps lost someone very special, someone who had already made a difference in their lives and who helped them have hope for a better world. As I pause to remember this amazing young woman, I believe that we can also be grateful that she lived and touched so many lives, and continues to do so.
Rest in Peace Emily - you will never be forgotten, and even those such as myself, who weren't fortunate to know you in life, remain inspired and uplifted by your goodness, compassion, faith and duty. God Bless you and your Country.

Still On My Mind

I put on this uniform with you in mind
Hard work, dedication, to sum it all up ‘Standards”
Your way is the way of many young soldiers aspiring to be like
A sister, a friend, a daughter, an American soldier, that was you
You maybe going but on September 12 your not forgotten
I post this to remind myself that life’s sweetest gift can be taken in a heartbeat
I won’t forget and can’t forget it is still on my mind
I tell your story to anyone who wants to listen
Did you know or ever hear about 2LT Emily Perez…

Vicky & Daniel:
The second anniversary of Em's death is one day away, and I feel sometimes that she is still with us. Sometimes I look at her picture at my house and it seems like she smiles right through the glass. You know, like one you can reach out and touch. We will never forget her; and the lives she touched, are still being touched. God bless you and the family.

At 2 Corinthians 1:4 we read: "[God] comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted." It is my sincere prayer that you will be comforted by the God of all comfort. Pray to him often, he will listen, he will help you to cope with this great loss.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Perez,
I am a great friend of Ethel. Emily is her God child. I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you. I thank Emily for being so brave and fighting for us, so that some day we may be free of all this hatred. I know that Emily is up in Heaven with God and surrounded by the Angels.
And some day you will see her once again.
God Bless you all.

Hello, I have never met you, but I wish I had the pleasure of knowing Emily. I'm just a regular anonymous soccer mom living out here in California. My daughter, my second of three children, turns six this month. When she was born, I began for her an Album of Admirable Women, and every year on her birthday I make an addition (pictures, bio, etc.) of a woman of unusual strength, courage, fortitude. Most of my female relatives and friends have made contributions to my daughter's album. Most of the women in this album are not famous; none are fashion models or pop singers. Some are fictional characters, but most are truly amazing women.
With pride and honor, I would like to add Emily to this album of Admirable Women for my daughter's birthday this year. Her story is a beautiful one of achievement and sacrifice and not heard often or loudly enough. May God Bless you, her family. And know that somewhere out in California, a little girl heard Emily's story this month, and will keep it with her for many years.

You are remembered and respected. Thank you 2nd Lt Perez!

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Perez;

I have been, sitting here for the longest time reading of Our Fallen Heroes. I came across your daughter's obituary, awhile back. She looked like someone I knew, from NYC. I have had her vision with me for a time. Today, I had to tell you sincerely, of the Pride, I feel for all of her accomplishments. The Pride of being an American.
To let you know, that you are not alone, in your loss. For your loss is my loss. I don't have anyone out there in armed forces. Yet I feel, I am related to them in some way. 2ND LT. Perez, gave her all to everyone she knew and everything she did.
Take heart, that your sacrafice, was not in vain. She was an inspiration to all who knew her and to all who wished they had. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Matthew 5:9. Let her rest in the arms of Lord Jesus Christ son of Our Heavenly Father. Through him all things are possible one day, you shall all be reunited. She is preparing, the way for all of us. Where there is only Peace. Please accept my most sincere condolences. In Christ Jesus, I pray that we find forgiveness and a peaceful end to all hatred. That no more parents and families, continue to bury their loved ones. This I pray in Christ Jesus, Amen. Rest in Peace, 2ND LT. Emily J.T. Perez.

It's been a while Emily - seven months in fact, since I last wrote here. Sadly, more names arrive daily on these pages and a successful conclusion to the war seems a far off dream. Still, your fellow countrymen and women in uniform are commited and as brave as ever and they do your country proud. Thanks for bringing Chris into our lives - but for you, we would never have come to know him. He so admired and respected you, as both a fellow officer and friend - please watch out for him in these coming months.
And Emily - your smile still dazzles. from Kim and Jim (still in the Middle East)

I just got done making a quilt to honor your beloved daughter. It is my way of saying I have not forgotten her and what she stood for. She was a hero to us all for she knew she had to defend this country. She was not afraid to protect this country. Not many people can say that because it takes the few the brave to stand up and stay I care. You gave this country a true hero and for that my dear I just wanted to say we thank you. My name is Betty Nielsen and I'm the founder of Freedom Quilts email debeniel@ncn.net website www.freedomquilts.net if you ever need a friend to talk to I'm here I'm here for all the families that need me and one by one with the grace of God I will do my part also and comfort each and everyone of you. God bless and take care. If you know of anyone else that has lost a love one have them contact me so I can make a quilt to honor them also.

I am deeply moved by the loss of 2nd Lt Emily J.T. Perez. I have been in the Ministry since 1979 and God blessed me with a "Personailzed" Tape Ministry" for our troops in 2004. Had I known Emily, she would have definately been in receipt of one because, above all else, she knew it was "spiritual warfare".

God's Word teaches us "...to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord..." I can not thank Emily enough, even after death, for honoring her oath to serve our Great Nation! To know that "...God has wiped away all tear from her eyes..." and that "...she will never know pain and sorrow again" lifts my spirit. God alone sets the appointment with death, because He is the "author and finisher" of it. We can never question God! I thank Him for blessing her parents with a "gem" like her for the time that He did. To Mr Daniel and Mrs Vickie Perez, Kevyn, and both grandmothers, Rena and Delia, I am trusting God to restore your joy and to give you the "...peace that surpasses all understanding..."

Remember, ALL of your tomorrows are in God's hands and if you fulfil His "purpose" for your lives you will see Emily again! "OBEDIENCE is greater than sacrifice"

I will FOREVER Salute Emily!

Yours in Christ,

Emily,
Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I miss you so much. Sometimes I see you in dreams, and I don't want to wake up because its so nice seeing you again. Its snowing here in Afghanistan, and it reminds me of us being cadets back in school and cutting through Washington Hall to go back to our room. I miss you girl, hold it down up there in Heaven till I get there.

Mr and Mrs. Perez and Family: I am an individual who served in NYPD during 9-11 and one, who having taken Army ROTC in college, is well-familiar with the metal by which West Point graduates are made. I visit the academy many times each year, and often think of all the men and increasingly now the women, who have given their lives for our country. Standing inside Police Headquarters in NYC on 9-11 many of us wondered what our national response would be and by whom would it be made. After reading of your daughter's background, and accomplishments, it does not surprise me in the least that such a woman would have gone to Iraq and make a stand for democracy. I am very saddened to hear of her loss. I know these words are menial in comparison to what you have gone through, but just speaking as one individual with no connection with either her or with you, I just wanted you to know how I felt and that I cared... Godspeed, and my best to you.
December 01, 2007
Perez family I send my deepest sympathies. I came across her story while signing up for the alumni board for Oxon Hill High School. I have sat here and wept for the last five hours while reading stories about her and her beautiful spirit and love for God. I graduated with Emily from Oxon Hill High School in 2001. Emily and I took an English class together during the 10th grade year. Even then, she had this spark about her. I remember her telling the class about her beloved father and her time in Germany. You could just see the pride in her eyes for her father. I never got the chance to know her, but I thought she was so confident and so sure of herself and I admired that so much. She will be truly missed. She was one of a kind and no one will forget all that she accomplished and did for her fellow man.

Emily,
Even though I personally didn't get to know you, I will miss you. You accomplished so much in such a short period of time. You had the most amazing spirit. May God welcome you home.

For the Family and Friends of our fallen comrade 2LT Emily Perez,

The 2LT Emily Perez Medical Treatment Facility Opening Ceremony was held on Novembert 20, 2007 by 725th BSB (ABN) near Baghdad, Iraq. 2LT Perez paid the ultimate sacrifice and the new facility was dedicated to her memory in an October 2006 Ground Breaking Ceremony.

I pray that your legacy that you have left behind would flood the spirits of all West Point cadets, and active duty soldiers, enlisted and officer alike. Thank you for your service and your dedication to your country. You're an inspiration.
October 24, 2007
Emily, there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of you. You have been a true inspiration to so many people, including myself. When I start to feel sad I think of all the joy and praise you always displayed, and that's what I want to pass on to others as well. I miss you dearly but I have a beautiful portrait of you displayed in my home to remind me that you are always with me. I know that you are with our father and I pray that some day we will meet again.

I never knew 2LT Perez but was recently reading up on Oxon Hill HS graduates and learned of her story. I served in the MD-11, the same AFJROTC unit at OHHS as she did but my time there was in the year she was born. I was proud to learn of her military achievements and noble activities outside of the military. As a fellow soldier that has served for 23 years, I am proud to share some small piece of her legacy and will honor her memory always. A truly inspiring individual.

It's been over a year now since Emily went from her labor to her reward. I pray the oil painting I commissioned to be done of her, helps all that enter your home to capture the love and dedication this brave woman of God had to Him, to family, and to country. During this time of memories, the world will never forget Sept.11th, and those of us who knew Em will never forget Sept. 12th, because we lost a part of each of us, I will miss that excited, busy little girl from Mannheim, Germany, but yet she lives on in our hearts always. May God bless your family.

2nd Lt.Emily Perez - one whole year since you paid the ultimate price while serving your country. To the Family and Fellow Soldiers of 2nd Lt. Emily Perez:

No words can express the grief that I, as a proud American, feels each time I read a name of someone who has fallen in our honor. God bless and hold each and everyone of you as you go through your lives with your losses and pain.

Lt. Perez's spirit has touched the lives and souls of many people, and I will cherish the inspiration and dedication of a brave young woman soldier. God bless you, Emily, and may God hold you high in his stead. You are a hero--you are my hero!!!

No bond is as great as that between a parent and child. My deepest condolences are with you as you grieve.

The Spirit Lives On and On Till, and when we meet again.

It was crazy because everyday I would be waiting for you to be in or come in my office before the morning BUB. I know you got me in trouble plenty of times hidding from the commander. I can't forget the days leading up, and you asked me to take you off a mission to go to church. After church you came and gave me a big hug, and me being me said something crazy like "you're welcome boo". standards... 1 love

Thank you for the sacrifice made by 2nd Lt Perez and the sacrifice made by everyone who loves and misses her! May God bless all of you!!

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I first read about this remarkable young woman on a news web site and, like many others I'm sure, I wept for the loss of yet another young life.Somehow this young lady stood out - the wide smile - the sheer joy, vivacity and goodness in her comes through in everything I've read. Since then, looking through this Guest Book, and reading the tributes paid to a very special girl, I've come to the conclusion that the best way that I can honour the life of Emily Perez is to share her story with as many people as possible. Our own daughter, a Police officer, is serving with a UN Peacekeeping Unit in Sudan, so I understand how hard it is to deal with the constant concern for a well loved child, doing their sworn duty, living and working in a dangerous situation. I cannot, however, imagine the anguish of having to bury your child - it's so out of the order of things. I only hope that the Perez family will gain some measure of comfort from the many sincere and loving tributes paid to their daughter and sister. I've visited West Point, and I know that, most appropriately, Emily lies alongside other heroes from other wars. I pray that her sacrifice is not in vain.
Rest in Peace Emily. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and their loved ones back home. Thank you for the opportunity to leave a message on this beautiful site.
Sincerely Kim & Jim Straker - Queensland, Australia - but presently living in the Middle East.

I read about Emily in Time magazine several months ago and remember thinking what a remarkable person she was. She sounded like a person a lot of people looked up to and aspired to be more like. To her friends and family - I know how much you must miss her. I will not forget her sacrifice.
June 19, 2007
Thank you 2nd Lt. Emily T. Perez for serving our country and giving your life, you are greatly missed.
June 12, 2007
Greetings to the Perez Family.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Emily's death, and at the same time proud of how many lives that she affected. What a great woman of God that you all raised.
I remember Emily from Germany, as her youth choir director at Greater New Zion Baptist Church and a friend of my daughter April. I knew at that time that Emily was a special young woman and that she would grow up to be someone of great stigma. She was always a leader in everything that she did, and even as a child had a beautiful voice.
I found out on tonight of Emily's home going from Israel and was deeply sadden. Please know that my prayers are with the two of you in your healing process. May the blessings of the Lord be upon you as you try to go forward with your lives.

Blessings and peace be upon you!
June 12, 2007
My the Lord comfort you in your time of loss and grief. America lost a true hero and role model for young women. Continue to trust in the Lord and lean not to your own understanding.
June 03, 2007
Honoring the memory of this brave young woman. May her family find comfort in their loving memories, and know that all of America shares in their sorrow and in their pride. Rest in peace. My flag flies in your honor.
May 29, 2007
My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead.

Dear Emily and Family

This is a fitting day to honor, admire and pay tribute to women soldiers. Mother’s Day is a day that pays tribute to the woman that is always a caretaker, courageous and a protector of her family. As a Mother hen spreads her wings to protect her chicks from death and will sacrifice her life if needed, so has Emily spread her golden wings to protect each American Citizen from evil and give back to each one of us another day of Freedom. We are eternally in your debt for your sacrifice. You have established your right of Motherhood and to be in the presences of the Creator of the universe.

May God bless your family.
May 07, 2007
YOU ARE THE ONE! Above the best.
May 07, 2007

Dear Perez Family,

I am a 48 year old single female, federal civilian worker. I keep a photo of emily's smiling face on my desk, where I can see her every day and think and reflect on the sacrifice that she made. What a promising life cut short. I saw the wonderful tribute that the NAACP did for Emily and all the fallen soldiers during the 2007 Image awards. I stood up and cheered for Emily, right there in my living room and said, Yes, "That's my girl!!" as the tears flowed and they are flowing now.

God Bless you all!

I didn't know Emily but from reading her life story. Emily was unique and someone truely special. She seemed to be a very bright and intellgent young women who had a bright future ahead. There is a saying from Aaliyah " Some people come into our lives and quickly go and others come into our lives and stay a while and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never the same." I'm sure everyone who knew her she touched them and made a impact on thier lives. My prayers go out to her family and friends.

It was once said "Soldiers never Die-They just fade away" I never knew 2nd Lt. Emily T. Perez. But in the few moments Ive known her by reading her lifes story on the internet. Let it be known she IS A BRIGHT STAR THAT WILL BE MISSED AND AT NIGHT WHEN ALL BUT A SINGLE STAR SHINES AND THE WIND IS SPEAKING SOFTLY.

SHE WILL NEVER FADE AWAY

My deepest sympathy to the family. Weep for a night, but joy will come in the morning. She is now with the front lines in the reign of our Lord. My grandaughter did her Black History project on the only known Black Woman to serve in the Civil War as a Buffalo Soldier,
Cathay Williams, her project next time will be in honor of
2nd Lt. Emily T. Perez. Rest in Peace, gone but never forgotten.
February 24, 2007
My daughter is in the 2nd grade and was given a project to write about a "famous" person. I was delighted when she wanted to write about her mother serving in the military. I explained to her that there are so many people who have served in the military that are much more interesting. I came across an email that I received from a friend. The email was about 2nd Lt. Perez. I explained to my daughter who she was and what she meant to us on so many levels. The fact that she is African American, a women, intelligent and served her country domestically and internationally overwhelms me with our lost. My daughter's project is due Monday and I am so honored that children and teachers will learn from her project some of the greatness of this women. I think it is so important that our young girls know that life is theirs for the taking and be the best they can be and I have learned this from this beautiful young women in her short life!! Much love to the family***PEACE
February 16, 2007
Lt Emily Perez,
I've been a teacher for many years. I still would like to know how to best express to my students your gallantry and sacrifice to our country. How do I show this to elementary students? Middle school
students and Is it different to high school students? When would be the best time? Maybe... after the "Pledge" and before "America the Beautiful"? How can this ever be enough to thank-you for being our heroine.
My students admire you...
February 15, 2007
I WAS HER SOLDIER AND I WILL ALWAYS BE HER SOLDIER. MY NAME IS SPC TRAVIS TRUESDELL. LT.PEREZ WAS MY PLT LEADER . SHE WAS GREAT . I WAS HER GUNNER SHE WAS ARCH ANGEL 26 AND I WAS ARCH ANGEL 26G. I WOULD RIDE WITH HER ANY WHERE . SHE LEAD FROM THE FRONT THAT SEEMED THE ONLY WAY SHE KNEW HOW TO LEAD. LT I MISS YOU MORE THAN EVER.
February 07, 2007
Like others before me, I did not know Lt. Perez but I will forever hold her up with honors along with some of our past fallen heroes like the Great Dr. King, Mr. Malcolm X, Ms. Rosa Parks, and so many others that have come before her. When speaking of the great African Americans that have paved the way for the future generations. I can now add 2nd Lt. Emily Perez to the list. What and honor it will be. I will teach my young daughter just how brave Lt. Perez was.

I am but 3 years older than Lt. Perez and could not imagine having the strength and bravery that such a young beautiful woman like herself processed. I will remember to say a prayer for her and all the other fallen soldiers that have given their lives so effortlessly to protect our way of life.

May God comfort you in the many memories that you have shared with Emily. Please mourn no more, for one of God’s Heavenly Angels has returned home to conduct that wonderful mass choir in the sky.

God Bless!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the Family, West Point classmates and friends of 2LT Emily Perez: ... She, too, has taken her place in the unseen ranks of the Long Grey Line so that new generations of cadets in The Corps might be inspired and "stiffen and straighten with the thrill that their presence imparts."
January 22, 2007
Emily, I heared your story from a co-worker of mine and reading it brought tears to my eyes. Am sure you are in a better place in Gods care. But for giving the ultimate sacrifice for your country and us...THANK YOU...just will never measure-up!

To the family and friends of Emily Perez...

Emily was memorialized in my home church today, St. Charles Borromeo, Harlem, NY. Today was the first time I heard her name and and learned about the great honor and services of her life. As the pastor spoke of her life and legacy, I felt as if I knew her; not of physical introduction but one of spirit for we all enter this life with the talents of One Spirit. Emily's legacy has transcended time and touched me as well as others.

God Bless

Lt. Perez was mentioned in a page one article in today's edition of The Wall Street Journal. Reading of the powerful impression she made on her unit's Iraqi interpreter, I was moved to seek out her story online.

Sympathy seems to be the most commonly expressed emotion in these guest book entries, and it's right that it should be so. Those who knew and loved Lt. Perez have my sympathy also, along with my gratitude and respect.

Other entries have suggested her work here is done, her watch is over and so on, and I understand the sentiments. But I believe Lt. Perez is still on duty, inspiring us not only by her sacrifice but by her drive, vitality and achievement.

Words cannot express the respect I have for her and for those who helped her become the woman, the leader and the officer she was.
January 12, 2007
To the Perez family, I am just a person who saw Emily's picture and story in an email going around. What an awesome young person she was. I was so taken by her that I google searched her name to read more. She was extrodinary and I am sure you are so proud and so am I. May God bless you.
January 09, 2007
Thank you to the Perez family for sharing your beautiful gift from God, Emily. She is, in my eyes, a hero. I am forever grateful for her service to our country on our behalf. May God grant you His peace, comfort and love.

Lt Perez was an amazing leader. She is missed daily and will never be forgoten.

My heart goes out to you at this time. 2nd Lt. Perez journey is completed on earth. She has now taken orders in Heaven. God Bless you..

I never met your daughter, but I wish I had. My son graduated West Point with Emily. I applauded loudly when her name was called to receive her diploma and commission. I am sure that you were as proud as I and my family were on that day. Please be proud always.

Emily reflected values that you instilled in her, and the many letters here from across all segments of this great country from those lucky enough to have known her, and many like me that weren't, are indicative of her impact in our lives.

I can not imagine how great your feelings of loss are, but I wept as I read through these pages, a small tribute to someone as great as 2nd Lt. Emily J. Perez.

For the family of Emily ~

Know that your daughter, sister, cousin, niece and granddaughter was a gift to many from our Lord. that her name was written in His book, with her story before Him, as you took her hand for her first step. The day you dropped her off for kindergarden - He was there with you, and that too, was in his book. And when she got behind the wheel for the first time, He was there. Today as you cling to the memories you have of this very gifted child, take a deep breath, and feel your faith - rememebering that He gave her life, and He has given her eternal life for the work Emily has ahead. Emily no doubt was one of his brightest stars for Him to only give us a sampling of her talents, wisdom and blessing that she brought to so many. Emily's charge now is beyond our breadth of understanding. "Trust in the Lord always, do not lean on your own understanding" . . . knowing that He has her in his arms, and she is fullfilling His plan that has been written long before Emily touched us.

My love and prayers will be with you all at this time, our strength is our faith - and "through Him we can do all things", amen?

Love and Light,
Gina von der Burg

I just opened an email from a relative and my heart goes out to the family of Lt. Emily T. Perez. Loosing a child seems as though it should be a sin. We lost a son at 16. I think the most difficult is the lost potential. He has been gone almost 3 years.

You will experience a new normal. My advise to you as a mother, when you smile, dont feel guilty. Laughter and smiles do not in no way negate your love for your baby.

I am a therapist as well, but everything goes out the window when it hits home.

God be with you all.

November 07, 2006
To the Family of Emily J.T. Perez: To lose your love one this way, I am truly, deeply, saddened, and I wish I could have met her. From what I have read about her, she was blessed with a strong will and determination which enabled her to make the right decision to attend West Point. WHAT A WONDERFUL ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR AN AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMAN. ALWAYS BE PROUD OF THAT!!!!

For the time she was here, she accomplished so much in her life time, and no doubt, she would have contributed so much more.

You may never understand why she left you, so youthful and blessed with her accomplishments, but God had a better plan for her.

When you feel sad from missing her, think about the good times all of you shared, and I am sure this will bring on a smile and remember her with fondness. God Blessings to all of you.
November 07, 2006
We all mourn the death of your beloved daughter. While we know that she is at rest and without a doubt singing with the angels in heaven, it is hard to accept that she had to go so soon. She will be remembered for her courage. As a female, a minority officer, and a graduate of West Point, she accomplished so much more than many of our young women ever will. I pray that her memory will motivate others to strive to achieve as much. I am as proud of her as if she were my own. I know that this is hard for you, but please keep the faith and know that God is always in control. This too has happened for a reason. Lt Perez.. I salute you. To the Family and Friends of 2nd Lt. J.T. Perez;
It is with deep sorrow and profound gratitude that I join you in mourning the loss of your loved one.
It is clear that Lt. Perez was an exceptionally gifted and brave soul and the nation has lost a tremendous asset. I will remember her courageous and bright light in my work and try to honor her memory in my endeavors. As she peacefully rests in God's arms; a grateful nation will celebrate her life and our blessings by exercising our right cast our votes....a right your beloved gave her life for us to enjoy.
Respectfully,
November 01, 2006
It started with an email from one of our offices: Just a few lines about this exceptional human being. Then, little by little, photos and articles about Lt. Perez began appearing in cubicles and people were talking about her. All of sudden the woman (and men) fighting and dying in Iraq had a new, striking human face--that of Lt. Perez.

I can't imagine how hard this loss is for the parents, but I've prayed for you and for your remarkable, exceptional daughter, and wanted you to know how she has touched so many that she never met.

I know this is a tragedy, but I am grateful to know that such people like this lived, and died, for their fellow human beings. While good people like this are in the world, for however long, I have hope for us all.

God Bless you and thank you for allowing us to get to know this remarkable person through her works.

I read the story of 2nd Lt. Emily Perez and I was drawn and moved to say something to the family. There is something about her portrait that continues to speak about her though she is no longer here. I am praying for you that God gives you strength as you deal with what is obviously a great loss.
October 31, 2006
My prayers are with you during your time of loss. May God continue to give you strength. Always remember that there is nothing that is too difficult for God to handle. May the peace of God that surpasses all of our understanding be with you.

God bless you, Emily, and your family. I work for a member of Congress, and he recommends may of our best and brightest to attend the military academies. Too often, I complain that our African American students either do not seek or are not recruited for Congressional appointments to the academies. So, I know that Emily was one of our stars, particularly for the African American community. The last chapter in the book of Proverbs defines a virtuous woman - indeed Emily was that woman.

I can help but think about my own daughters and realize what a blessing that they are and the things that they are yet to accomplish. What a wonderful young woman our country has lost. My heart hurts.
October 30, 2006
It is an honor to express my condolences for a LADY (it doesn't matter her ethnicity) who gave her life in defense of the country she loved!
October 30, 2006
God never promised that we would never have trials and heartaches. He only promised to be there with us and walk through those trials and heartaches with us. I have been there too many times. Time will heal the wounds.
October 30, 2006
I am very touched by the greatness and inspiration that Emily continues to provide to those of us who have learned of her dedication to her family, her friends and her country.

Intuition tells me that the same greatness that Emily is known for is also found amongst everyone who loves her. I just hope that the Perez family and friends can use that greatness to heal the pain.

Emily is a true hero who provides inspiration beyond city, state and national borders.
October 30, 2006
My prayers are with you in your time of loss. From her bio your daughter appears to have been a wonderful person, someone we all can be very proud of.
I pray that God will watch over you and your family and comfort you as no one else can in your time of sorrow.

To the family and friends of 2nd Lt. Perez,

I am stunned and saddened by your loss. I am sadder still that I did not know about it sooner. Not only was she a brilliant American and a brilliant soldier, but she was a brilliant woman of color - a girl no less - taken from you and from our country prematurely. But God knows better than we do, and He packed all of this life experience into her short time here because He needed her in leadership in His Army!

As a parent, I cannot imagine this loss. I grieve with you. I, who did not know her, will never forget her. God bless you.
October 27, 2006
2nd Lt. Emily Perez should serve as a role model for not only females; but males as well! She was a beacon of light for all of those who feel the burning sting of racism and discrimination, for she proved that there is nothing that you can not do if you have self determination and God on your side.

May she rest in eternal peace!
October 27, 2006

Holy Greetings to the Perez Family,
I did not personally know Emily; however, I know the heart of a Mother. The sacrifices your daughter made for our country were not in vain. Emily’s name has been placed in our intercessory prayer book of remembrance archives. May you find solace in the precious memories and the legacy Emily has left behind. I pray that God will see you through these difficult times and he will hold you up with His mighty righteous hand. Please know that you and your entire family are in our prayers. Emily will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Christians do not die they just sleep away waiting for the great resurrection day. Absent from the body we are present with the Lord.
Be Blessed,

This young woman was a memorial unto herself. Not only was her performance at West Point a testimonial, but the way she lived her life clearly shows that she embodied everything that made our nation great! It is a tragedy for every American that she was cut down in the flower of her youth. May the Hand of God console her family and all who knew and loved her and safely guide the troops she so carefully led. Those of us who didn't know her personally are the poorer for it.
October 23, 2006

To the family of the honorable and beloved 2nd Lt. Emily T. Perez:
I would like to comfort you with words the Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians at Thessalonica. He encouraged them by explaining that: "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord." (I Thessalonians 4:14-17 NKJV). Her life will remain a testimony for Jesus Christ. Be encouraged and please do not be hindered from telling her story to the world.

She the soldier standing strong
God the wind that wraps
Laying down her empty arms
Her energy God saps

One tear shed on the battle field
One tear from glassy eyes
One tear life's ending battle shield
One tear our soldier cries

God the moment as knees did bend
God the strength and power
Sent to lift her from the field
Sent for her that hour.

May HE continue to comfort you and keep you and may you find comfort in knowing that God only wants our best and that is why He chose her. Her life is a testament to Him. She fulfilled what He intended for her to do. This guest book is evidence of that. I leave you in Peace.

In 2004, Lt Emily Perez visited my church, Zion Baptist Church as a member of the West Point Gospel Choir. My attention was drawn to this beautiful young lady because of all the stuff I saw on her sleeve. I asked her were she the top cadet in her class, just as Gen Douglas MacArthur was, and she said very modestly "Yes." I took Lt Perez's photo, which you can find posted on the Legacy.com site. Today, I learned at church that she was killed in Iraq. How very sad. May God bless her soal and her family.
October 14, 2006
Mr&Mrs Perez,
You should be very proud to have raised such a wonderful young woman who managed to touch the lives of all those that she ever came in contact with. She is a blessing to all of us and I'm grateful each day that I had the opportunity to meet her and most of all to be her friend. Our friendship grew over the last ten months of deployment and I will forever cherish all the emails we ever wrote to each other.
I miss her very much and not a day goes by where I do not mourn for her. Her memory will forever live on in my heart, and I will honor her each day by trying to give half of which she gave to the world.
Be at peace, for your daughter is in heaven and has saved you both a seat on either side of her. I love you Em and I promise you will never be forgotten.

My heart goes out to the entire family of Lt. Perez. I can understand your pain, because my nephew served with Lt. Perez in the 204th Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. His name was Sgt. Casey Wayne Jones. He came home in July for 2 weeks leave and died in a traffic accident less than 48 hours after returning to his beloved Texas. I don't know that they knew each other, but I'm proud to know they served their country together. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with all of you during this difficult time. May God grant us all peace during the coming days over the loss of these 2 young people we held so dear to our hearts. Proud aunt of a United States Soldier,
October 07, 2006
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Perez,

I did not know your daughter but have felt compelled to write for a few weeks now. I first learned of Emily's death through an e-mail blog that a friend of mine runs. He posts a monthly list of wounded and killled service members. Then, I read an article on her on blackmilitaryworld. I also heard her mentioned on the Tom Joyner Morning Show just yesterday. I could no longer sit idly and not acknowledge the magnitude of the sacrifice your daughter has made for our country.
I had the privelege to serve in the United States Air Force for 5 years and remember how much pride I felt to be serving my country. I know that Emily felt that same pride as well.

Please accept my deepest condolences and know that Emily is resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior. Please know that you will continually be in my family's prayers. I have three children and can only imagine the grief of losing a child. I wish I could have had the opportunity to know Emily.
October 07, 2006

I will always remember your precious angel and will praise her forever. Love You All!!!

When I first saw Emily's obituary in the Washington Post, her face just sorta jumped out at me. Even though I didn't know this young woman, I felt a need to attend her funeral to pay my respects. When I arrived at Ebenezzer, the church lot was packed. Believing that I would not be able to attend because of the crowd, I was relieved that I could attend and was deeply moved by her courage, determination, and faith in God. She was a truly remarkable young woman who knew how to get the job done. Emily's death was not in vain. She truly loved the Lord and accomplished so much in her brief, but fulfilling life. Her living was not in vain and I wish to express to her family my sincere condolences. May God continue to encourage you in the days to come. Emily has been welcomed home into the arms of our Lord Jesus Chirst and he is saying "Well done my good and faithful servant." God Bless the Perez Family.

I am a 1SG who had both the honor and privilege to know and serve with Lt Perez. She was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all who were blessed enough to ever meet her. My prayers go out to her family and friends, as we all mourn her loss, but rejoice in her life.
October 06, 2006
To the family and friends,
I never met Emily but saw the write up on her in JET magazine. I read of her many accomplishments and must say she made me proud to be an American and even more proud to be a black female American. Sounds like God broke the mold when He made her! I wish I could have met her, she sounded like a beautiful human being. R.I.P. Lt Perez, you've made a ton of sistas very proud!!!

Dearest Daniel and Vicki,
We miss your presence at Peace, but our prayers are with you as we are still trying to make sense of the lost of your precious Angel. Words will never express the sorrow we have in our hearts for your loss of Emily. Through your teachings and unwavering faith, we know that joy will come in the morning. We just needed to let you know that we are still praying for you. We love you both and are available for anything that you might need. Please know we are here for you both with love and adoration from our hearts to yours. Continue to abide in Him and let Him abide in you throughout your time of grief. Healing and grieving is a process that only your faith in God is able to make right. Hold steadfast to your belief and teachings that God is able.

October 06, 2006
My heart goes out to the parents of Em. I am a friend of Ethel Buchanan. I know she is up with God, surrounded by all the angels. And she is looking down on you, and saying "Don't Cry For Me". "Because although you can not
see me, I am always in your heart".
"And one day we will all be together". God Bless you all.
Love,

Mr. & Mrs. Perez:
I have been in total shock for 2 days now. When we first heard about this, we didn't see the pictures, so didn't connect the name at all. But now almost a month later; it's just so unbelievable. I will never forget Em, playing together, hot German summer fun, playing "church", wishing school would start sooner...I'm praying that the same faith Em displayed in our Lord, will sustain your family during this season of grief and through the years ahead. Em would have wanted that. I think of the scene in the movie "Steel Magnolias" where the young girl stands at the grave and says "When things like this happen, and I can't make sense of them, I just tell myself that Em had done everything God intended her to do on earth; she had fulfilled her calling and it was time for her to go on back home with Jesus." That's my only comfort right now, God's will has been done. Anyone who ever crossed the path of Em's life, has to be a better person for it. England had Princess Diana, and America had Em. Sleep in heavenly peace.... my precious childhood friend. I'll never forget you.

Vickie and Daniel: I'm here if you need me. I've relocated to St. Louis, MO now. But I'm only a phone call away. Call me anytime. I'm holding the entire family up in prayer; and with the strength God gives us all, I believe you will make it through this and keep pressing toward the mark, because Em would want it that way. God bless.

Emily looked like she had such a beautiful soul. I wish I would have had the pleasure of knowing her. She seems to have touched many lives while she was here. You should be extremely proud...Job well done. May the Lord provide you with peace and blessings durring this sorrowful time.

I've always been proud of West Point graduates but none so much as Emily. The long grey line can be so proud that she is a member.
October 04, 2006
May you find peace and comfort by knowing that you are kept in constant prayer. Your loss is unimaginable and my heart goes out to the entire family. Although I don't know you, your pain is universal. She was a special gift that was taken much too soon. May God's grace and mercy sustain you.
October 03, 2006
I met Emily Perez as a guest of another family during a football game at West Point when she was a senior. My wife, and being African American, noticed the medals she was wearing, espcially the academic ones, and we were so proud. We told her, as African Americans, how proud we were and we knew her parents felt the same.
We took pictures which we will prize for the rest of our lives.
Thanks to Emiily's parents for raising such a fine young woman who we know is with God.
October 03, 2006
Dear Daniel and Vicki. My wife and I wish to express our sorrow for the loss of your daughter. I thank her for her service and sacrifice. You and your family will be in our prayers of comfort.

America weeps with you, as do I.

We remember that little girl that lived a half block up the street from our house in Rauenberg Germany, She caught the same school bus with my kids, Artis & Elizabeth. She had been identified then as one having a special gift from our Lord & Savior. We will always cherish times we spent with her, In the Heidelberg/Rauenberg community, and will continue to pray for her family.

I didn't even know you, but through the life you led, I feel very much connected to you. We are the same age, graduated from college the same year, participated in the same activities/organizations (choir, bone marrow donor) and are both 2nd Lieutenants in the Army. I thank you for your sacrifice and I know that heaven is more enriched because of your presence. Thanks for setting the example and for leading the way.

Dear Danny and Vicki Perez. I am truly sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter, Emily. Although I never met her, we have some things in common. We are both West Point graduates and we both had Danny as a role model. When I was a young 2LT at Fort Hood, SGT Danny Perez taught me that technical competence was key to success in the Signal Corps. I know Danny taught Emily many keys to success as she excelled at West Point and in life. The Army has lost a great asset. I lost a fellow officer. My family will keep your family in our prayers. May God bless and keep all of you during this time of mourning.
October 02, 2006
Dear parents,
I am so sorry about your daughter's death. I know this is a very difficult time. There is little anyone can say at a time like this. I do want you to know that you are in our prayers.

To the Perez family-
I just saw a special segment on the noon news about your lovely daughter Emily. I have a daughter the same age also named Emily. I cannot begin to imagine the aching void her loss leaves in your heart and soul. I am so impressed by her vibrance, tenacity, and courage. She was an amazing young lady and you did an amazing job raising her in these troubled and difficult times. I will pray for you- that God would grant you continuing strength and peace knowing that His house has many mansions and He prepared a special place for her. I hope to be privileged meet her someday.
From my heart,

I did not know this wonderful woman and soldier personally. I only know of her deeds, strengths, and spirit. Take solace that she is singing with the angels now and fighting at the side of Michael the Archangel for a heavenly cause. She is a true American hero. God has said to her "'Well done my good and faithful servant". My prayers remain with her parents and friends.

One can only hope that within the days we are blessed with we help someone, that we have seen or shared love in it's glory....To the ones who give to their country and to the foundation of all that is right and just death comes as a comfort. A natural death is always hoped for, we question the death that comes too soon and at what cost....My heartfelt blessing to this family and I wish that we all do something this week as a reminder that we are so blessed, becasue we have others willing to do the diffcult work of freedom....

To the Perez Family,
Our deepest condolences on the loss of your loving daughter. She was not someone that we ever met, but our nephew, Ariel Perez, graduated with her from West Point. We had asked him who this other Perez was, since their names were right next to each other on the shirt and tote bag. He spoke of her with great admiration, telling us how intelligent she was and how she was loved and admired by everyone. On that busy graduation day, we never did run into your family, It would have been an honor to meet her and you. Please know that you are in our prayers as is Emily. Now, having read about her, it is obvious that you raised a wonderful child, one to always be proud of!
September 30, 2006
Dear 2Lt Perez,

Thank you very much for your great sacrifice to ensure our freedom and democracy. Your memory will always be with the American people. You have been a blessing to all of us. Enter now in the presence of our Lord and the joy of being with HIM.
September 30, 2006
Dear Mr and Mrs Perez, I am deeply saddened by your loss. I attended OBC with Lt. Perez and she was an inspiration to me. I was her squad leader and it seemed more like she was mine. She squared me away and I thank her for that. She demonstrated all the qualities that I admired and I feel blessed to have known her.
My prayers go out to your family.
September 30, 2006
To the Perez family no one can ever understand how it feels to lose a child. But I know how it feels to lose a soldier and may you find the strength to carry on her memory, from what I read this fine young lady did some great things. So please know that she is in a better place where she will no longer fear the unknown may she rest in peace.

You really do not have the words to write, but your heart tells you you must write something. Damari and Miniya, two little ones that you may come across in a dream thank you for keeing them safe from harm and havoc. They are my children and though too small to understand now, they too will know the story of your plight because you chose to keep them and this country safe. Damari is a 9/11 baby as I worked at DB at 135 Liberty but was transferred to Midtown due to pregnancy. 9/11 was my first day back. I am glad that God chose to see him to life and I am glad that God has chose you to have a better life with Him in heaven. Continued blessings and peace to your family. I pray they share the same confidence you share about our Good Lord- He most certainly will comfort them.
September 29, 2006
It always hurts to lose one of our own. Especially one so young. She had yet to live her life. But everything is for a purpose and GOD called her home. My prayers go out to her family, friends, and her soldiers who miss her dearly. Its not easy to get over something like this. I still think of the friends I lost the first and second times I went to the desert.

As an American, I feel for her family and our country. Hopefully, soon there will be no enemy, but Peace !

Our hearts dropped when we heard about Emily. She is only a few years older then our daughters. Emily will be missed, but we will see her again. Right now she is talking to Jesus face to face. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:8
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. The Perez family are always in our prayers.

I know that you will Look to The Hill from Which All of Your Strength Comes, knowing that Emily was doing what she loved.
September 28, 2006
Dear Perez Family,
This artical caught my eye and I was deeply moved when I read it. I too am a 2LT. Find comfort in knowing that Emily was doing something that she was passionate about and we joined an Army at war knowing that this was a possibility. That proves how strong, brave and selfless she was. Emily stood up and defended the freedom and safety of the American people. She will be looked up to and remembered for this always...

I would like to tell you that her presence truly blessed my life, and she has greatly influenced it. The Gospel Choir and I continue to keep you and your family in our prayers. God Bless.

Dear family of all who loved Emily. I am the mother of a female Plebe, USNA Class of 2010 - so Emily's loss feels very close to home. On Sept. 11,2001, my 12 year old daughter, our last child of 5, told me in the same breath that she was going to serve her country in the military and where to bury her. Parents never want to think in these terms.... And for you, it has come to pass.Emily has paid the ultimate sacrifice for serving her country and my heart is heavy. She has indeed given the last, full measure of devotion. As Christians, we understand laying down our lives to save another. Emily has done this for us all. You are all in my heart and in my prayers.
September 28, 2006
What an amazing young woman and a true American hero! Surely, she sits in heaven and watches over us.
May God bless her family that raised her in such a magnificent manner.
September 28, 2006
To the family of 2LT Emily Perez, I shall keep you and Emily in my prayers. I hope that you will have some comfort in knowing that your daughter lived and died as a hero and an inspiration to others. My son, Dean, graduated with her from USMA and he was devastated when he sent me the sad news of her death. From what he told me of her, I only wish I had had a chance to meet her as well. The Class of 2005 will never forget her. With gratitude to you and Emily for her sacrifice and respect for her choice of Duty, Honor, Country -- please accept my condolences. I am deeply saddened by the loss of your beautiful and successful daughter. I am also in the army. I've served for almost 10 years now. I served in Iraq also and my heart hurt for my mother's pain. I'm also a mother of a beautiful 7 year old that is hispanic and black and definitely an over-achiever who I hope to turn out to be as beautiful and strong as your daughter was. I wish I could've known her and served with her. I admire women like her that serve. There aren't many like her. I would've been truly honored. My heart and prayers go out to you, and I want to thank you for your daughter's endless and selfless service to this great country.I am truly sorry that this nation sacrificed such a beautiful, strong, talented woman and a devoted officer in the United States Army!
