I saw you in Turlock California had a great time! Love your music. Such a fun guy, I felt as if you were always a good friend, even though I never personally met you. I have a album of your songs that I forgot about. I'm going to take it to my son's house and play it. (He's the only one with a record player). You are in my prayers. Your songs bring back so many memories. Thank You for persistence and beautiful, beautiful, talent.

I was privileged to see Freddy perform at Duffers Irish Bar, Mission Viejo, CA on Saturday 25 July 1992. I kept shouting for "Via Con Dios" but he said that he had not rehearsed that number with his new band. He did sing my favourite "Rancho Grande" and, of course, "Before The Next Teardrop Falls".

After the show, his manager kindly agreed to introduce me and Freddy stepped out of his replacement bus (the original having broken down at Needles, CA, thus delaying the show), which was parked right at the back door, to chat for a few minutes and pose for pictures.

I asked him if he would ever play in Scotland and he mentioned that he had performed at the Peterborough International C&W Festival in England and said that he may play in Scotland "someday". Sadly, so far as I know, that day never arrived.

Via con dios, mi amigo Freddy.

I was fortunate to have seen Freddy twice in person. Once in The City of Industry, at "The Hop" and again in February of 2005 at "Stephen's Steakhouse" I believe that it was Valentine's Day weekend (Fri. Feb. 11)I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to purchase your CD and say "hello" as you signed it for me. I will always love his music and his "down to earth" personality. May God Bless Freddy and his family always. There is no other like you, Freddy. I deeply regret not being able to see more of your live performances!

I just love all of Freddy's music, to this day and forever I will listen to all of his music, whenever I go shopping I still buy his CD's even though I have them at home because you never know when those ones will mess up! I have to just say one little story about one of his songs (Hey Baby Que Paso) my son who was about 1 years old was listening to the radio with my mom and myself (89.1 KANW) and his song came on, my hito was singing along to it and the part where it says, thought I was your only vato, my hito would say thought I was your only GATO, my mom and I laughed so hard we scared the baby, but he just started laughing with us and kept on singing that part over and over just to make us laugh, it was so darn cute. We all miss Freddy so much and especially his music, because he could still be here making more beautiful songs for us. Vaya Con Dios.

June 19, 2010
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

For Freddy...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

My Dear Freddy,

God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face.

He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw your path was difficult, he closed you tired eyes.

He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly.
When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.

You've left us precious memories, your love will be you family and frenids and fans guide.

You live on through your children, you're always by in there heats
It broke must have broke so many hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.

For part of them went with you on the day God called you home

I AM THE DIAMOND GLINTS ON SNOW.

October 17, 2006
God Bless the family of Freddy Fender. I am 36 years old and remember sitting with my dad and listening to Freddy. I just lost my dad in June this year to lung cancer it is a horrible disease and I just hope one day we can find a cure so it will quit taking the people we love so dearly. Freddy was a strong will to fight such a horrible disease and I put him up there with my dad as a strong willed individual who unfortuantly fought the battle and lost, but in my eyes both these men are winners to even have the courage to battle this terminal disease. I wish the family all the best in coping with there loss. god bless always.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

October 17, 2006

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

the great singer in the Persuasions, Sweet Joe Russell, that I loved
Freddy, and he shot back with: Freddy Fender is great! After his
performances, Freddy would always go to handicapped people in the
audience bringing them great joy. vaya con Dios Freddy., Freddey is in haeven
October 16, 2006
To all of the Family-My Prayers are for all of you-your loss brings me bitter-but sweet-memories-My only child, Chad, was just 7 years old when "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" came out-On our daily 20 mile commute to work/school, with the constant Radio play, he learned every word of that song, the Spanish part perfectly. For a 7 year old, part American Indian, living on an Indian Reservation in Northern Minnesota, singing eloquent Spanish was a novelty and he entertained many! He died in a tragic car accident just 2 months ago-and now, with Freddy, they can sing "Before The Next Teardrop Falls" together in Heaven. Prayers! Joanne Terway-Burnet, Tx

During the break between shows we got to go backstage and meet Freddy. I will never forget what a wonderfully warm and caring man he was to us that day. He kissed my grandma's cheek and made her swoon. She talked about that day until she died. Everytime I hear one of his songs I have to smile and think about that day. The world lost a wonderful man and musician. My deepest sympathies to his entire family. Thank you for sharing him with us.

freddy you were an amazing singer! i was raised in south texas listening to your songs. i remember my dad always walking around singing "wasted days and wasted nights". to know that one of our own made it big is awesome. i also grew up as a migrant worker. working the fields in the beets, onions, beans and even harvesting the potato spuds. it's a hard way to grow up. but you became our inspiration that no dream is impossible, even for the field workers. you are truly a legend to the latinos. through your songs you will live forever! there won't ever be another one like you. on behalf of the Garcia's and the Rodriguez's from Alamo, San Juan and Pharr, Texas we send our prayers to your loved ones for strength, peace and comfort.

I COME FROM A MUSIC TALENTED FAMILY, WE USED TO PLAY THE GUITAR AND SING THAT SONG. WE ARE HISPANIC AS WELL, WE FELT LIKE HE WAS PART OF OUR FAMILY. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED, BUT WE CAN PAY TRIBUTE TO HIM THROUGH HIS MUSIC. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY. GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU. Freddy touched my "BIG" belly and said I would have a beautiful baby boy, and I did...Joshua 1976. He also signed my purse and gave me a kiss. I gave the purse to my granddaughter Hunter a few years ago, and told her the story about the man that touched Nana & Papa's heart.

Balde:
Your beloved "El Jardin" neighborhood in San Benito, Texas where you were born and raised (as well as I was) will miss you. I remember in high school in the 50's when you, my brother(drummer) and Rene(bass) would practice at our house and my mom telling you guys that you were making too much noise. You musicians were practicing for our high school talent show and for other gigs. To this day we still bring up those practice sessions at home and how much we enjoyed listening. I enjoyed visiting with you here in Austin in April 2004 when you performed at the Paramount Theatre. As usual, your performance was outstanding. To say that I personally will miss you would be a vast understatement.

There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Being from the tip-of-tex, South Texas, Harlingen, for 25 year, con mi familia, I am most familiar with San Benito...and have seen so many Tex-Mex field workers, both in-laws, friends, and later one of my own kids...their hopes and dreams are ongoing, and their scars are deep at times...thanks to local folks like you, that make the Tex-Mex name never forgotten, these successes helps folks believe...hope the good Lord was by your side as you passed on--y ahora, muchos oraciones para su familia, I love the Tex-Mex that only "el gente de el valle" can do...and I will miss your "musica"

The only spanish I know was what I learned from his songs.

I always wondered why he stopped singing because I thought he was so good. After reading about him, I now understand. Now he is in Heaven singing to the Angels.

To his loved ones, may you find peace in knowing how many
people he touced while on this earth. God Bless you All

There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

To the family of Freddy Fender, my condolances to all his family. I remember my father, may he rest in peace, really looked up to Freddy. Us being a Mexican - American family, my father was a guitar player since the age of 4 and felt that he could relate to Mr. Fender. Wasted Day and Wasted Nights was a staple @ home for Several years. I remember my dad sanging El Rancho Grande to my sister and I. The hispanic community lost a pioneer in hispanic advancement. May God bless his family and may Freddy rest in peace.
