Just today my husband & I went too pay our respects at this grave site in Culver City, CA at Hillside Memorial park. I was such a beautiful place for such an actor to spend eternity. It was very emotional to actually see his final resting spot next to his wife. Bless you Gene Barry

For Gene...

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

MY CONDOLENCES TO CHILDREN,GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.
AS A PERSON BORN IN 1947 I HAD THE OPPURTUNITY TO SEE MOST OF HIS WORK. HIS "WAR OF THE WORLDS" WHICH I DID NOT SEE TILLL I WAS ABOUT 10, WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SCI-FI MOVIES OF ALL TIME, EVEN IN THIS AGE OF MODERN HIGH COST MOVIES THAT ONE WAS WAY AHEAD OF IT'S TIME. HIS CLASSY TYPE ROLES HE PLAYED SEEMED TO BE VERY NATURAL NOT ACTING, AND I GUESS ANY MAN THAT COULD BE MARRIED 58 YEARS MUST HAVE BEEN CLASSY AND I ASSUME TO A CLASSY WIFE. ITHEY MUST BE JUST A FEW OF THOUSANDS OF MARRIAGES THAT LASTED FOR SO LONG, I HOPE THE GOLDEN YEARS WERE HEART FILLING HAPPINESS AND LOVE FOR THEM .
IT APPEARS TO ME YOUR FAMILY WERE BLESSED BY TWO GREAT PARENTS. GOD BLESS YOU ALL

December 27, 2009
When I was very young I had a major crush on Gene Barry! I watched the name of the game with my sister Jean and we adored him. He will be missed! Rest in Peace Mr. Gene Barry !!!
December 27, 2009
My uncle, Fred Woodward, was a policeman and Gene's personal body guard when Mr. Barry was in Memphis, Tenn. When Gene accepted a dinner invitation from Uncle Fred,Aunt Katie was flabbergasted. This was her favorite actor and he was actually going to eat at HER table. All through the meal she was a nervous wreck. Afterwards as everyone relaxed, Gene Barry asked if he could removed his shoes(?), that made Aunt Katie feel so much at ease. Of course this made her adore him even more. Both Aunt and Uncle are gone, but prehaps they will see each other again.
December 26, 2009
I remember watching Bat Masterson as a kid with my parents (we only had 1 TV and westerns were their favorites), but what I recall is that Mr. Barry was not only elegant, but how he would exit the room by taking the tip of his cane and touching the brim of his hat...what a classy man!!! RIP Gene Barry.
December 26, 2009
Despite Gene Barry's image as a ladies man, it is commendable that he apparently wasn't the philanderer observed in many of his contemporaries.

My favorite TV program as a teenager was "The name of the Game".
I thought he portrayed that part very well. He was a classy guy.

RIP Gene

December 25, 2009
When I appeared with Mr. Barry in the opening scene of a t.v. movie, I appreciated his levity. He asked the cameraman " Why is the camera so small?" The reply :" Because it's 16 mm and the film will be transferred to tape." I'm sure that Gene already knew.
And, he spotted a fairly large tag hanging from my costume that I had failed to remove. Said that I " looked like a D.P." (Displaced Person).
Pardon the cliche, but Mr. Barry was a class act. Jim Miller Salt Lake City, Utah

December 23, 2009
My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Words cannot express the grief and sadness we feel. But perhaps when language fails us, we can share what's in our hearts.
May the peace of God be with you. And in Revelation 21:4 its tells us that God will end all suffering, pain and even death. Until that time we can take comfort in knowing that Gene is just a memory away and that God is just a prayer away

I grew up with the show and as a small boy wanted to be just like him and wear a hat like him
December 19, 2009
I probably will never do this again, but for Gene I had to. Often it was taken for granted that the English actor represented the most sought after refinement for a gentleman. Mr. Barry, for me, changed all that. Growing up in poverty as I did there were few role models for me. Through all three series Gene set the American standards for toughness, wit, class, style and fairness. I like to think much of my life is based on the values he displayed to all of us each week.

Yes, I know writers are responsible for much of it, yet to me Gene played himself. I am Black, yet if you are an american, Gene spoke to you!

My only hope is that one of the retro stations will again bring his television shows back to a generation truly in need of his unique way of seeing the world.

I feel as if a family member has left the stage.

I will miss him always.

Brothers in life.

Howard

I enjoyed his pan line delivery in Burke's Law, the original and the "newer" version, to me he was an actor, not a script reader. But my all time fav is War of the Worlds more than the recent remix, I continue to enjoy the old school version. My deepest sympathy to you and your family, but I enjoyed watching his body of work.
December 17, 2009
To the family,

Mr. Barry will be greatly missed. With fond memories I recall watching Bat Masterson, which quickly became one of my favorite shows. Words cannot begin to express the tremendous grief you must be feeling. Please know that our loving Creator can sustain you through your intense sadness just as he did King David. At one time King David felt pressure that was almost unbearable. He could only groan in his grief. (Psalm 55:2, 5, 17) His advice to others who might feel as he did was: “Throw your burden upon God himself.”—Psalm 55:22. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
December 17, 2009

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

I liked Mr. Barry when he got older, especially when he played in "Murder, She Wrote." He also was absolutely marvelous in the pilot of "Columbo," titled "Prescripton for Murder" in which he played the psychiatrist who murders his wife (Nina Foche) because he was having an affair with an actress. Great stuff.
December 16, 2009

Gene Barry was a great actor, he had a successful career. More
important he was successful in life-- Being married for 58 years
says alot about what kind of man he was. He will always be one
of my favorite actors. I have much of his work on DVDs. I felt bad
when I went to his fan page and learned of his death.
My condolences to his family. By the way I'm only in my 40's, so
Gene Barry has fans of all ages.

The very first TV show that I remember was Bat, even though I was only 3 years old. I had a toy Bat cane and gun set that I still remember treasuring. Mr. Barry epitomized style and class as no one else did or could. His delivery in each role was unsurpassed. Burke's Law is still my favorite show ever and I have the recently released DVDs of it that I treasure and relish the release of more episodes. My mood always elevates whenever I see Amos rushing to his Rolls for his next case as the sultry female voice says "It's Burke's Law". I used to even love hearing him do commercials with that wonderful voice that was so distinctive and immediately recognizable. He will be greatly missed but long enjoyed by so many. His performances always brought a smile to my face. My greatest sympathy is extended to his family. I know you must be in sorrow (as am I and his many appreciative fans) but know that the pleasure that he brought and continues to bring to so many is priceless.

RIP Mr. Barry, please take a greatly deserved bow.

December 15, 2009
My heart goes out to the Barry family. I had the good fortune to have crossed paths with Gene a couple of times. I smile when I think of what he said to me when I was just a teenager upon learning my last name was Burke. With a twinkle in his eye, he said, "Well, then, you can call me Amos." The thought of that encounter still makes me smile. Rest in peace, Amos.

I had the privilege of literally rubbing elbows with Gene Barry in Boston's Downtown Crossing Filene's Basement 15 years ago. He was a class act in person, just as he was on stage and on the small screen. The word debonaire was invented for the sole purpose of describing Mr. Barry.
December 15, 2009
Bat Masterson was cool before it was cool. What a classy actor. Our most sincere condolances to the family. I'm sure Mr.Barry will be missed by those who called him Dad far more than those of us who just enjoyed his work.

I met him on the lot of Universal Studios in 1970 when he was doing "Name of the Game" and I was a costumed character on the kids' feature show "Pufnstuf." I had always adored him, especially on Burke's Law, and was thrilled when I was able to meet him personally. Our director, Hollingsworth Morse, introduced me to him--while I was in a vulture costume! His passing represents an end to an incredible era.

To Gene's family, Truly the days of his movie-making were outstanding! (So different from today's movies) We enjoyed all his movies. A great actor!May we, also, say at this time, 58 years of marriage is also outstanding! You can have peace in your hearts, knowing that he "sleeps" until Jesus calls him forth from the "Memorial tombs" to life on a Paradise earth.--John 11:11-14; John 5:28,29. We can all look forward then to the hope held out in Revelation 21:4 when "death will be no more". Our deepest sympathy.

Our family have enjoyed the shows. Prayers for you and yours. God be with you.

December 13, 2009
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To Michael Barry and the Barry Family

The passing of your father brought back fond memories of our past friendship. I remember you to be a very sensative and caring person with looks and personality (like your dad) that attracted girls like a magnet. Just a very bright and down to earth guy. You never flaunted nor did you capitalize on the fact that you had a very famous father. You have always been your own man and I know people admired you for that.

My mother also passed away a few years ago from Alzheimers Disease. I pretty much know what you and your family have gone through. Like your family, my family suffered his terrible period much more than our parents did...

Now is the time to think back and celebrate your fathers life, the good times...and do so knowing that he knew all was well because he was lucky enough to have you and his family there for him.

I am planting a tree in Israel in memory of your father as a living tribute to his memory.

Warmly, Allan Turner

My sincere condolences to Mr. Barry's children and other relatives and friends. I always remembered him from movies and television from the 50's on. I even remember his wonderful comedic acting in Our Miss Brooks for one season. And then was privileged to see him on the stage in a great acting and musical performance in Boston in Aux Cages in the early 80's and then at that time, seeing him smiling as he was walking down Boylston Street enjoying an ice cream cone. He seemed to be a very fine and humble human being.

I remember watching "Bat Masterson" as a young child, and being captivated by Bat/Gene. At that age, I could not seperate the role from the actor.
Many year later watching re-runs of "Burke's Law," or seeing him in guest shot, I always appreciated his sassy take on most of the roles.

Peace and condolences to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

This "Dr. Clayton Forrester" will be missed by many.

i've read all the guest book entries, and, they are beautiful. my condolences to the Barry family, and, we lost a classy, great actor , as well as a television icon. i remember watchin' all 3 of his different shows growin' up. i have all his episodes of bat masterson on tape, and, watch them when i need to go back in time when times were simpler. there was always a moral to his stories--you can solve problems with a hit of a cane, rather than shoot someone. i will miss him dearly, as you will, but, we will never forget his acting, and, what a beatiful profile he brought to tv. and, we will always love him. god bless him!

December 11, 2009

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.

When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Growing up in the fifties I, like most of the kids then, was fascinated with the many westerns on TV. Then, and even today, I watched Gene as Bat Masterson, "the legend of the west". I watched all of the episodes many times and loved the way Gene carried himself and the fact that he was always a gentleman. I will never forget Gene, his "lightning fast" cane, derby hat and the way he wore his small handgun on the front of his gunbelt. God bless you Gene and thanks for all of the wonderful memories.

December 11, 2009
I remember fondly the tv shows Gene Barry played in during his career. I also remember a time in the spring of 1961 when Gene Barry performed at a nightclub in Washington D.C. Our girls Y-teens group from Winston-Salem, NC took an Easter break trip to Washington. On Saturday night we went to the club for dinner and the show, but we were late and missed the first show and came to the 2nd one. Mr.Barry gave out a joke about eating at 'Staley's drive in located in Winston-Salem'during the show just for our group. He said he had told the joke during the first show and no one had understood what is was about. He was glad we had finally shown up and could appreciate the joke. It was a fun night for a bunch of high school girls all out on adventure. We had our pictures made that night with Gene Barry at our dinner table. It was a fond memory for me. Thank you for all the years of good clean tv shows and for that night a good clean night club act for a bunch of young girls.
