You have left such a legacy among your students and fellow educators. Like the ripples of a stone cast into a pool of water, the effects of your efforts and knowledge will continue...

To Mr. Loganathan's family, he was a wonderful teacher and mentor and guided me into the field I am in today. He was always an amazing teacher with a kind soul and words of encouragement. He will be greatly missed. I will be praying for your family.
May 06, 2007
To G.V.'s family and friends,
Our heavenly father, Jehovah (Ps. 83:18) promises at Isaiah 41:10 - "Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not gaze about, for I am your God. I will fortify you. I will really help you. I will really keep fast hold of you with my right hand of righteousness". May you grasp hold of his hand and allow him to guide you through the coming days, weeks, months and years.
Additional comfort may be gained from these scriptures:
Isaiah 25:8 - "He will actually swallow up death forever."
Revelation 21:4 - "and he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away".
Since the loss of my husband on 9/11, I have been greatly comforted by these scriptures in the word of God.
May 02, 2007
To the Family of G.V. Loganathan: May your family be comforted as you mourn the loss of one so precious to you. We all have searched for answers in the midst of such a hideous and senseless act and yet there seems to be none. May you be comforted in knowing that Professor Loganathan was loved and respected by so many and that his widsom and knowlege was instilled in all his students over the years. A life can be taken from us so quickly and yet the one thing that can not be taken from you are all the memories that you shared as a family. May you be comforted as you contine to mourn the loss of your loved one.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the sparkle in the snow.
I am the shredded leaves that blow.
I am the sunlight on growing grain.
I am the gentle summer rain.
I am the quiet bird at night.
Circling about; Taking flight.
So do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.

RISE UP SLOWLY, ANGEL

Rise up, slowly, Angel.
I cannot let you go.
Just drift softly midst the faces,
In sorrow now bent low.

Ease the searing anger,
Born in harsh unyielding truth
That Death could steal my loved one
From the glowing blush of youth.

Rise up slowly, Angel.
Do not leave me here alone,
Where the warmth of mortal essence
Lies replaced by cold, hard stone.

Speak to me in breezes
Whispered through the drying leaves,
And caress my brow with raindrops
Filtered by the sheltering trees.

Rise up slowly, Angel,
For I cannot hear the song
Which calls you through the shadows
Into the light beyond.

Wrap me in your downy cape
Of sunshine, warm with love,
And kiss a tear-stained mother's face
With moonlight from above.

Then wait for me at sunset,
Beside the lily pond,
And guide me safely homeward
To your world,which lies beyond.

Just spread your wings and take me
In reunion’s sweet embrace,
And we shall soar, together,
To a different time and place.

To The Loganathan Family:
I am writing this brief note to your family because I so deeply feel that when we are faced with the sudden loss of someone so very dear to us that it is one of the hardest things in our lives we will have to face. Yet, I would like to share with you something that touched my heart, it is the knowledge that God will respond to our persistent prayers to help us through any tough time such as this. At Philippians 4:6 and 7 it says that "the peace of God that excels all thought will guard your heart and your mental powers." Please know that my prayers are with you at this time and I urge you to continue to pray for strength to get through the rough moments ahead.
April 30, 2007
To The Family of G. V. Loganathan-May it bring you comfort in knowing that others care.My sympathy goes out to your family.May our Heavenly Father Jehovah give you the strength to go on,for He is a God of comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 says:"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God." Take comfort & strength from His Word.

April 28, 2007
I am deeply sorry and saddened for your family's loss and equally saddened for the students of past and those he was teaching. It is inconceivable to me that this wonderful educator lost his life as did many of his students and 4/5 of his teaching assistants. The losses of this man hit hard at all levels. I know of no educator who would go over to be with students in the middle of thei night to help them with their studies. He was not a teacher, he was one of a select breed, a fine educator and the epitome of an example of relentless dedication. He was doing what he loved when he was taken too soon from this life.

Uma, I understand you are an engineering student at UVA and read of the apparent love, admiration and respect you have for your Dad. How proud he must have been to have you as one of his daughters and for you to follow in his beloved field. He listened to you "for the stupidest things" as you have been quoted because that was clearly an example of a Dad's love for his daughter. Think of all the memories you and your sister will forever hold precious and sustain you and your family because he was there and did listen! He cared. He loved you and there is no greater gift to a chld than the love of a parent and no greater gift to a parent than the love of a child. Clearly, he was destined to be an educator at all levels. He has taught you and your sister, by example, the greatest gift of all, the importance of relating to others, listening and educating all the while.

I send my deepest sympathy to the family, the students of past and those in his classroom at the time of this horrible tragedy.

To Uma, I know you have made and shall continue to make your Dad proud. I know the times ahead will be greatly challenging as you continue your education as an engineering student...Hang in there and know that your Dad was your number one supporter and he will always continue to watch over you until you are reunited again and will have the promise of eternal life granted. God bless you all and hold you tightly. Know that you are loved and supported and being prayed for. Susie

P.S. I am a Wahoo too, class of 80, School of Nursing =)

Father we entrust our brother G.V. to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold G.V. in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

MY DEAREST BROTHER,
REST IN PEACE SWEET BEAUTIFUL PRECIOUS ANGEL
April 26, 2007
I am very sorry for your loss. I have experienced losses both anticipated and unexpected. When I was fifteen years old in my first year in high school, my mother died of melanoma at age 54 in December 2004; we were anticipating the loss. As with me, I am sure your loss is emotionally stressful for you and your family.

Your grief may ebb and flow. It has been said that each of us has this well deep inside of us that can be filled to the brim with grief. Every time we cry, we empty out some of the well. But the well fills again. The level of sorrow in your well may lessen as time passes, but it will never run dry. There will always be birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and those days when the well seems to fill to its brim again. Allow yourself time to remember and mourn. It is part of your healing. Grief is a continuing journey.

The Night darkness turns to a yawn
G.V. Logavnathan is still there as the light peeks dawn
He’s explained it over and over again until it’s got
He gave his students more than enough—he gave a lot
The natural that guided them to knowing
The driving force that kept their knowledge flowing
His name’s pronunciation was like hell
So with his kind heart he allowed them to call him Dr. L
Humble, devoted and approachable his reputation gifted
Dr. L smiled as he spoke those that saw were lifted
He was a husband, a father and a son loved for being himself
Those that knew Dr. L treasure it as priceless worth

I was a graduate assistant for Dr. Loganathan for a year. He was an extremely bright and effective professor, but even moreso, was how great a person he was. He was so helpful and easygoing, and I benefited greatly from knowing him the short time that I did. He had a wonderful laugh. I hope his family can take comfort in knowing how many lives he did touch.
April 25, 2007

I didnt know any of the people that passed, but this whole thing has gotten to me, alot. I am 15 years old and I'm a freshman at Crawford County High School in Roberta, GA. This tragedy has most definatley opened up the eyes of many people, even in other states far from Virginia. Even my school in this little town we know as Roberta are buckling down and making sure that our schools are safer. It has opened up my eyes to all the possiblities at schools, here in Georgia, Virginia, and all over the world also. My condolences go out to all the friends and family of the victims. I can't possibly begin to imagine what they must be going through. Stay strong, VT will pull through!
April 24, 2007
My deeply Condolence to his mother, father, wife, his daughters and all his relatives of this eminent Professer. May his soul rest in peace

April 23, 2007
My deepest sympathy to the family, colleagues and friends of Professor Loganathan. I did not know this man I have learned about until the tragedy at VT. I wish I had known him, from all I have heard and read, I know I have missed meeting a fine educator and human being. My heart is broken for the loss of yet another wonderful human being gone too soon. I will pray for you and everyone in the Tech community. I am deeply, deeply saddened. Know that you are loved and that we care.
April 23, 2007
Professor Loganathan was my son's (BS 2006) advisor and teacher. My son thought and spoke of him with respect and kindness. I hope it gives the family some comfort to know that Professor Loganathan influenced and guided the lives of so many students who will never forget him. May God bless and comfort his family during these first days of grieving and continue to give them strength as time passes. You are in our prayers.

April 23, 2007
Words can't express the sorrow I've felt at the loss of your loved one. May God's Grace and Mercy give you comfort and peace.
April 23, 2007
I met Professor Loganathan not while a student at VT (class of ‘94,) but through my later work as a video technician, broadcasting VT graduate engineering classes via satellite. “G.V.” (as we called him) would teach and I would operate the video cameras and equipment so that students throughout the Commonwealth could take his class. During the two semesters that I worked with him we had what I humorously considered to be an “adversarial” relationship. I would try to get his face on camera so that the students watching could see their professor and he, seeming to be uncomfortable seeing his own image on the television, would always quickly steer the class back to his equations and examples so that I would be forced to show them instead. I remember him as quiet and reserved; but with a quick, dry wit that you had to pay attention to catch and a great enthusiasm about civil engineering and teaching what he knew to his students. He was always kind with a word and quick with a smile during the brief face-to-face encounters we had before and after class. To his family and friends: G.V. touched many people in his quiet and unassuming way; your loss is our loss as well.
April 23, 2007
I am truly so very sorry for your loss. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Professor Loganathan was a special man. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
April 23, 2007
I am so saddened at the senseless loss of a fine man and a fine teacher.
I cannot find words of comfort so I will say to you what we say here to people who have lost a loved one,"may he rest in peace and may you never know sorrow again."
April 23, 2007
It's so terrible that something like this can still happen in the year 2007...
You will forever be in the world their prayers, their thoughts, their heart!
April 23, 2007
I did not know you or your family. But I don’t believe there is a person in the world whose heart has not been touched by this tragedy. There is nothing in this life that brings us more sorrow than to lose loved ones in death. Even harder to bear is when the lives of loved ones are lost due to an unexpected tragedy. The shock can be overwhelming.
Be assured that God promises that he…”is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalms 34:18) Nothing can bring us more peace of mind than the inspired words of… the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulations. (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) Take comfort and solace in the Bible's message as we all await the time when GOD…” will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:3,4)
April 23, 2007
May the Grace of God comfort you in your loss.

We cannot begin to know the depth of loss that you have experienced. Dr. Loganathan was my teacher for several courses in Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, and I owe a debt of gratitude to him for the knowledge he imparted to me which has enabled me to enjoy a good career in the Hydraulics Unit at NCDOT. I remember fondly his excellent teaching style and that he was mild-mannered and approachable, yet very bright and able to impart that knowledge to his students very effectively. I know he will be sorely missed by many, and we feel deep sorrow for your family in his passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. (BSCE 1986)

I am deeply saddened by the lost of your loved one. At times like these it is comforting to know that the Bible tells us at Acts 24 verse 15 that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. So with that knowledge, know that there is a hope that you will see your loved one again.

April 21, 2007
Sorrowful tears
well up in my eyes
For those who have fallen
like rain from the skies

Each life was so precious
so many are gone
May they shine now from Heaven
like a new morning dawn

I cannot make sense
of this tragic event
I offer my heart
and my prayers have been sent

Each one had a dream
Each one had a goal
Each one had a family
Each one has a soul

Life must go on
for loved ones so shattered
Reach to their hearts
and show them it mattered

For families so lost
For friends left to cope
I greive for their hearts
I pray for their hope

In memory of those who have fallen and for those left to grieve.
For those left injured in harms way...
I pray for peace and healing of your hearts.

April 20, 2007
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I was an engineering student at VT for 6 years, and had Dr. L for 2 classes. He was not only the nicest, most generous teacher that I ever had, but also the nicest and most generous man I've ever met in my life. He's had a lasting impression on my life and I will never forget what he's done for me. Also everyone I know that had the privelege to know him say the same things about him. He was a special special man, and still is! I can't wait to see him again someday in Heaven.

This is a tragedy for all Americans. I know we are thousands of miles away, but we feel your grief and would take it from you if we could. Take one day at a time. It's not true that time will heal. I know that firsthand. But what will carry you is the grace of God and his love that he has for you. And, his strong hand that will gently lead and guide you each day if you trust him. Lean on him for he is strong as we our weak. We're praying for you all that you'll be strengthened and comforted with Gods peace.

I had Dr. Loganathan for Hyrdo II in 1990. Being a Transportation-focused CE student, I never really thought that I would use what he was teaching - but he provided me the stormwater foundation that I need to be a Public Works Director.
Thanks for the education that I didn't fully appreciate at the time. May God by with you and your family.

To the parents and family:
My husband and I lost our only child, a beautiful young lady, many years ago. It was the worst thing I've ever been through, and I didn't know how life could go on for us, but gradually, the pain has diminished. We're talking about a seven to ten year window, here, so you will have to work through it. The word 'Waves' comes to mind. Over time, they will be smaller and further apart. Don't let anyone try to rush you through your grieving, but DO try to get busy with something to take your mind off of it. Nothing will fill the void of a lost child, but they would want you to move on and enjoy life. The love between a parent and child can last forever, and someday I believe you will see your baby, again. My heart goes out to you and I share a little of your pain, because I know how it feels. No one should have to bury their child, but we have to trust God, who gave them to us.
April 18, 2007
We offer our deepest sympathy and prayers in the loss of your loved one. We pray you find strength, courage, and finally peace in his memory.
April 18, 2007
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. God Bless you.

I do not know the Professor. But his picture tells me that the world lost a great teacher, scholar, a father of two young ladies and a good husband. Any all that we say here will never bring Prof. GVL back to us. Only Prayers and support from those who truly love you will make you understand this senseless killing and the loss. As your dear loved one is with you, so shall he be with those of us who never met or heard of him. R.I.P. We pray for the strength and courage so all of you withstand this great loss.

Over 15 years removed from the Tech student body, i didn't expect to know any of the victims. I was deeply saddened to see G. V. Loganathan - one of my favorite professors - on the list.

I had Dr. Loganathan for one class (Hydraulics) during my Civil Engineering studies and remember him fondly. I had little interest in pursuing hydrology but wished i did so that i could take more of his courses. I recommended him highly to other students.

I was a mediocre student but he made learning that particular subject interesting and even fun. I loved that class and was sorry to see it end. Craig Moore's quote - "He was the most natural teacher — always able to relate things in a way that students could understand" - described my experience perfectly.

I was always pleased to see him in the alumni magazines as the recipient of so many excellence-in-teaching awards - he deserved every single one of them.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Loganathan family as well as his friends.
