The Platters made such beautiful music. They used such lovely words to decribe the feelings of love. May the family find peace in comfort in the promises of Jesus Christ our Lord.
I grew up in the 1950's listening to a lot of great music but I can't think of any group that had a greater impact on music back then than Herb Reed and the Platters. As a Massachusetts resident, I've had the priviledge of seeing Mr. Reed and the Platters perform on many occasions. He was a classy man who brought nothing but happiness with his magical voice. To the the family of Herb Reed - May God give you peace and comfort through his word and the Lord Jesus Christ during this time of sorrow, I know that he will be missed by many.
I saw it on cnn news. I didn't have the opportunity to meet Herb personally, but I knew him through music and what he accomplished. The Platters and the Flamingos were responsible for the transition of the groups of the 40s to the new decade of the 50s like the marvelous Mills Brothers, the Inkspots, the Billy Williams quartet who remained in there environment. The new Plateau of Black vocal groups emerged in the early 50s and Herb was one of that eras founding fathers. We thank him for the joy we will all always remember.
Thank you for contributing many timeless songs to our lives. No group will ever come close to matching the Platters impact upon lovers of all ages.
Thank you Mr.Reed for all of the beautiful Ballads you and the rest of The Platters sang never to hear such music again with class. May the Family receive the Blessings of GOD at this time of sorrow.
I feal very sad ,all of them gone to heaven....rest in peace
Thank you for that music that made our lives so much richer Songs that made us dance and sing and fall in love
Herb Reed was a true gentleman to me. I was 14 when I first met Herb, at the Swinger Lounge, Marco Polo Hotel, miami beach. I spoke to Herb at least fifteen minutes during his intermission. As a teenager, who loved the sound, also a young record collector, he spoke extensively about the early days. Next night, he invited ME personally to his show. Being underage, he made arrangements for me and my parents to have a table stage side, first row, like Goodfellas, and dedicated a song to me. Harbor Lights was the song and he personally dedicated it to ME. Autographs and music chat followed. Great memories of Mr. Herb Reed. Met him few times afterwards, but that was my highlight. You will be missed Herb, THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, and thanks for getting me more involved in the music that I truly love. THANKS HERB. RIP.
Your songs were the best. So many good memories while listening to them over the years. Thanks to you and all the other members of The Platters for enriching our music.

I will never forget the time that you, Gail. Susan and Ronnie came to Sharif Jewelers in Sacto. and we presented you and Gail a gold platter necklace as a thank you gift from the Sharifs for visiting their store and signing autographs for their customers. I believe that the Sharifs sent a limo to Reno to pick you up and and bring you to the store in Sacto. What a wonderful time we all had. Herb you will truly be missed by everyone;

Esther G. Block
My husband and I met him on a cruise in October of 2001, he was so kind. RIP
Herb, baby, I couldn't write until after I just read what Jay wrote. He loved that song so much, always said it was his favorite; I always liked Smoke myself, even when I was little. It's hard to write through your tears. But here goes, okay, first we love you so much. Second we will always love you so much! I should have kept right on heading up 95 last weekend when I told you I would spring you from that joint. Now I'll just have to put one of my favorite memories here of just how sweet and adorable you are because we all need a big 'ol smile right now.
I will never forgot and I have it on video so I cannot, ever, when we were sitting in the big comfy chairs in the hotel lobby in Miami a couple of years ago relaxing after our Rib Dinner. You were tired from the trip down so you dozed off a little. We were waiting for the bartender to make us some popcorn. When it stopped popping, Gail called your cell phone, that was clipped to your belt, to tell you that your popcorn was ready, the look on your face was priceless when you answered the phone, as you were directly across from her big comfy chair. But like the class act you are, you just said aww, get out of here and smiled…That may have been the last time we saw each other, but I was always so glad to hear your voice when you answered that phone when Jay called to check in. You were always so sweet and appreciative of our calls. I am really going to miss you.
I offer my sincere condolences first to Regina, thank you! To the group, to your son, your grandsons and their families. To Fred and your management, musicians, friends and fans all over the world who all knew how blessed we all were to have you and the music that has no comparison and never will. What a legacy you left behind. Rest now. We love you, Herb.
The greatest group ever. So enjoyed following your group around the Ma &. R.I. area during the 70's. Nate Nelson is waiting for you behind the Pearly Gates to sing harmony with you. Rest in Peace, Herb & thanks for the memories.
Thank you for the Music you created and shared with the Rest of the World!
Only you. The Platters was a group that sang real music. I will always love their songs. RIP
I'll never forget seeing you at the Holiday Star when I was in third grade. You all made a great impression on my youth. Never forgotten. At home with Jesus! Glory, Glory!!!!!
Love and miss you forever

The Platters. Immortal. The best of the best! With Tony Williams's fabulous lead singing, to Zola Taylor's million dollar smile, David Lynch and Paul Robi's pizzaz and reliable back-up, to Herb Reed's lowest of the lowest base, no group will ever some close. They thrilled my young heart and taught be about true romance when I was only 9-10 in the '50s. They truly had "That magic touch." A tear here.
You will be missed. Rest in peace.
Loved your music..Heaven has a wonderful addition to it's Heavenly Choir..My sympathy to your family..
Love and miss you forever.

Thank you so much for the music. I met you in a tiny club in Detroit in 1975. You were kind enough to sit with my wife and I for a while, during a break. What a thrill and memory.
The Platters were transcendental, there will never be another group who delighted me as much. RIP
I was 15 years old and seen the original Platters at the Macomb Theatre in Mount Clemens, Michigan. The music is the best ever and will last forever. Sympathy to all family and friends.

Herb Reed was a very dear friend of many, many decades. He fondly remembered our first meeting and that he babysat for my partner of two years old while his parents were performing! Herb was a great "Spades" player and we always loved spending time with him and sharing stories and laughs! "My Prayer" is that you are in heaven and have reunited with the other Platters. You pioneered the sound of the Platters and I will always remember you!
those was the sounds back in the day Marilyn Thomas A Fan

I grew up hearing the best music in the 70s when it was considered music. Little by little we are losing our greatest entertainers. Rest in harmony.
We are sure Sorry to hear of the Lose of a Great Voice and the last of a Group I enjoyed hearing when I was Growing up. My Prayers go out to your Family at this time. Your Music will live on Forever.
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

ONE THE BEST GROUPS IN THE BUSINESS!
REST IN PEACE HERB!
Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.
Have recently had them on my mind and want to find some of their old recordings. My roommates and I would listen to them every night as we went to sleep. This was in the 60's on a vinyl album. He and his group were great entertainers and icons of their era. I have "smoke in my eyes" today at the news of his death and "my prayer " is that he went peacefully and his family was by his side.
