Bert and I express our deepest sympathies. Jim was a good friend who we will sorely miss. We had a lot of great times together.
I hope time passes quickly for you in your time of grief.
My condolences to the family. May the God of comfort give you strength to cope with your loss.
We have lost a prominent, compassionate attorney in Pittsburgh as well as a man with a kind heart! My deepest sympathy to the entire Ecker family and remember an angel is watching from above.
To Sharon what a great man and father. Worked for him for many years could tell he was a family man and he loved his children> RIP Jim
Jim was one of a kind. As Frank Sinatra would say, he did it his way. He will be missed.
What a loss to the City of Pittsburgh. Mr. Ecker was our Who's Who of the best Defense Attorneys; he was also our local celebrity and he belonged to us. He was exciting to watch and a pleasure to be around. He was known and respected everywhere. He treated all with respect and kindness. This was an incredible attorney who was not at all affected by his tremendous popularity. There is not another like him and that is sad.
Mr. Ecker, Barrister Extraordinaire, you will be missed beyond words.
To Donna and the Ecker family, I am so very sorry for your loss. My family and I had the honor of meeting Jim several years back. We all went to lunch one day and when we walked in, everyone turned and looked and people whispered "there's Jim Ecker." My mom said Jim, maybe we should have signs on us that say we're friends, not clients. Jim laughed, unphased by the looks he was getting. 2 local police officers were there and said "hello Mr. Ecker" when we walked by. Our server was staring at him and Jim very seriously, looked up, pointed to my brother (who is 6'5") and said, "this is my bodyguard, you better treat us well." Her jaw dropped and she walked away and Jim laughed and said, watch what great service we get now. He was, to me, a very different man personally then his public persona. He had a FANTASTIC sense of humor and always had us laughing. He had a gentle heart and tremendous compassion. Jim did quite a bit behind the scenes that the public wasn't even aware of. He above all was a gentleman! I stopped in to his office one day to say hello and ended up spending over an hour there looking at his scrapbooks and listening to his stories. I told Jim that he should write a book! I loved the picture of him dressed as a clown, entertaining children. I'm not sure who was having more fun, Jim or the kids. I suspect it was a tie! He once asked me if I knew why he became a Defense Attorney. My reply was, because they get paid a lot! He laughed and said " yeah, if you get paid!" He had a kind word for everyone. Jim was one of those few people that when you met him, you knew you would never forget him. The most important thing I will remember about Jim was how much love and pride he had in his family. He talked of them with such love and pride always! Jim was a good man and he was good to my family. We will never forget him. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I hope you can find some peace in the fact that Jim was a wonderful human being! Rest in peace Jim.

To MR. Eckers family you have my deepest sympathy for your loss of a great Attorney and person. When my friend and Attorney took on a case, Jimmy would move heaven and earth to make sure his clients were taken care of. He would drive hours, talk to you or your famil, tell everyone not to cry or get upset. He would say things like take a shower, have a glass of wine, then sit down and relax everything is going to be alright. Those are comforting words to his clients or family. When you are charged with something that you didn't do you are scared. but my friend Jimmy made sure it turned out good, for that my friend i will be forever greatful to you and your staff. Thank You Jimmy may you R.I.P.
Sympathy & kindest regards to the Ecker family & multitude of friends wherever they may be. God bless 1 & all. Take care.
So sorry for your loss and may the Almighty God grant you peace and comfort. 2 Thess. 2:16-17
I met Jim & Donna about 11 years ago who were freinds of a doctor I worked for in Monroeville. Jim was a very kind and funny man. I will never forget his concern when he realized I had been working a double shift and wanted to know if I had any breaks during the day. I told him I had a lunch break and he offered to bring me dinner from the Olive Garden where he and Donna had been dining. Donna & family, you have my deepest sympathy.
My deepest sympathy and prayers.
