A true American hero. Rip.
" The span of our life is 70 years or 80 if one especially strong but they are filled with trouble and sorrow. They quickly pass by and away we fly".
I was privileged while stationed at Armed Forces Staff College to be one of the Admiral's drivers 8/74-8/75. I asked for his picture in uniform and he sign it as a gift to my grandmother for her 75th birthday, he asked you sure she would like that for a birthday gift? We laughed. While on assignments sitting at his house on brick row Naval Station Norfolk in the kitchen he or his aide LT Fischer would slip in while the mess cook's were preparing the meals and ask, 'have you eaten, be sure to eat... I wondered later in life if the ADM did that because of the many years he went hungry while a POW. I respected and loved him dearly. America's dear precious Admiral - Wishing you Fair Winds and Following a Seas. You will be soon in the arms of a Jesus Christ.
Dear family of Jerry & Jane,
Our deepest condolences to all of you. We hope to see you when the Arlington Ceremony takes place. You know our loe and prayers are with you. The Zacharias'
I had the honor of meeting Admiral Denton and listening to him speak of his time in the POW camp at a Guidant meeting many years ago. His words have stayed with me through all these years, humbling me every time I think my life is hard. I have a personalized copy of his book which I will treasure always. America has lost a true hero. May God welcome him home with open arms.
A true American Hero May he rest in peace with the Lord
My deepest sympathy to the Denton Family. May God comfort you in your time of sorrow.
Ft. Myers, Fl.
It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.
May God give eternal rest to Jeremiah Denton and solace to his family. He was a devout Catholic who lived his faith to the full. He is part of the "greatest generation" and his example of heroic virtue will treasured for years to some.
How good it is to know that when God restores the earth back into a Paradise, everyone there will enjoy everlasting life in perfect health Psalm 27:10, 11 & 29. Until that time may the wonderful memories you all shared bring you a measure of peace and joy in the days ahead.
I just read his book. We all should be proud to have had man as great as he was. Our country owes him and his family a great thank you for all he did. I served in the USAF from 1962 through 1966 and I am proud of it. He made me even prouder.
A true American hero for all time. May he rest in peace and may God give comfort to all his family. Psalms 121....
Privileged several years ago, after reading "When Hell Was In Session," to speak with Jeremiah Denton 3rd, who assured me my Honor-Message was relayed to his Dad. Now 90, news of his Morse-code blinked TORTURE- message is clearly recalled! How could his fellow-prisoners have survived without the stamina inspired by his indomitable faith in the All-Seeing Almighty God?
What a legacy he leaves to all of us... He will never ever be forgotten for his bravery and love for His USA.... God Bless The family as they salute him one last time here on earth.. Thanks for making the ultimate sacrafice and serving with honor and dignity... He touched many, many lives...
My husband and I saw Mr. Denton once at Diagnostic and Medical Clinic lab. While getting blood drawn across from Mr. Denton, my husband told the nurse "that is a real war American hero across there". I saw the movie of his capture and have all of the greatest respect for him. Sincerely, Marilyn Harbison
What a hero...I remember watching him come off the plane at Clark AFB...and crying with pride at his words.
As a Navy widow, I can only say "Rest in peace, Adm Denton. God bless you."
He was a true American Hero. I just read his book and I cried many times. I am a Viet Nam veteran and we now have lost another one of our Brothers. May he be at peace as I know our Father welcomed him with open arms. My sincere condolences to the family.
My sincere condolences to the family of this hero. I was a classmate of his niece at McGill-Toolen and wore his POW bracelet. Godspeed and God bless!
I wish to extend my sympathy to the family of Jerry Denton. I was a classmate of his at St. Mary's School where we played a number of sports together, especially tennis. We were close friends. We are praying for Jerry and the family. Sr. Mary Robert aka Dorothy Ching
It was a great honor to have known Adm. Jeremiah Denton when he was involved with the Coalition for Decency. When he was running for senator, I was asked to be an interim director of the CFD. When he became senator, he moved the organization to Washington. During the interim period, Mr. Outlaw helped to finance the organization until it was moved. I also had the privilege to play golf with him several times. He was a moral, ethical and honorable man. He loved his country and wanted to see it as a moral example to the world in many ways. God bless the family as they carry on the torch for which he lived.
Wow I read his book a while back and cried through it... He is a true hero and one I will always love and respect. Too bad the kids of today will never understand what true patriotism is. But I always will be... and that is partly because of this man.
May God give peace to the family as our dear friend has gone home. He served with my husband during the 'difficult circumstances' & H. Ben Ringsdorf admired him above all . So do I. The greatest, bravest gentleman that I ever met.
A true american hero. I remember his speech and how proud it made me feel to be an American. His is an example to be followed.
My condolences to the Denton family. May the comfort God gives be with you in your time of loss.
I remember where the plane landed and Admiral Denton stepped off the plane, alive and a true hero. RIP Admiral Denton. May your family find peace with your passing. We salute you Sir!
I was privileged to meet and speak with Adm . Denton on a visit he paid to McGill-Toolen high school after his release. To this day, one of the things I laugh about was how he embarrassed my home room teacher , Sr. Dorothy Ching by saying she was the best dancer in the county when they were in high school.
Thank all of you for the sacrifices you made and the heartaches you endured while he served his country and his God. Honorably.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your loss . America's loss. May he rest in peace and let perpetual light shine upon him .

I was a crewmember on the USS INDEPENDENCE and remember the day Mr. DENTON was shot down in 1965. 7 years later as I watched the return of those captives get off the plane it had seemed like a lifetime ago. May the Lord bless

I admire his courage and boldness. Even when he says to be faithful to the US government, he suffered badly to prove his word. I can't wait for the day when Real Peace and Security is achieved and no one else has to go through what he went. In the meantime, to the Denton's Family, Please accept my most sincere condolences. No one is ever ready to loose someone in death. "...God will rescue the poor who cry for help"... (Psalms 72:12-14) May God grant them inner peace and strength in this delicates moments.

Several years ago, after reading P.O.W. by John Hubbell, I contacted Jeremiah Denton to say thank you for all he had done for our country. He emailed me back and we became friends. My husband drove me 10 hours one day just to meet him in person. The hour that I spent with him was one of the best hours of my life. I loved Jeremiah Denton and will always remember him, he was my hero. My sympathy to his family.

Dear Denton family, please accept my condolences for your loss, may you all find comfort by drawing close to God. James 4:8
We wore his POW bracelet during his time as a prisoner and watched on TV his return. He was a brave man. God bless his family.
To the Denton family, I personally morn your father's passing for many reasons. One huge reason, is because he was the epitome of courage, and integrity. Jeremiah Denton was a person who vigorously supported his country and its way of life. His "values" and “love” for his country was indescribable. I remember my mother and I watching him walking out of the airplane after he had been released as a POW. All we could do was cry tears of joy, knowing he would soon be with his wonderful family. As you all know, your father defined “patriotism”.........From a distance, he taught me more then I have ever divulged. His book, WHEN HELL WAS IN SESSION became my personal Bible. And yes, that's a long story. His passing, in my opinion, means we have lost a piece of America! My mother was honored to have been with part of your family during extraordinarily rugged/tough/emotional times. I am sending prayers to the Denton family. God Bless Jeremiah Denton. Sincerely, Jackie Trudel-Lane
I am humbled to read this gentleman's obituary and integrity as a human being. We are not great because of experiences but because of what is "in the man".
Thank you for his service and his endurance. 7 1/2 years is just beyond my comprehension. My deepest sympathy to your family for your great loss.
A true American "Hero", may he now know eternal peace. God Bless you my brother.
Jeremiah Denton...a name that I learned a long time ago, a name that represents heroism, duty, honor, and country. Not many men could do what he did for his comrades held as Prisoners of War (POW's). He was loyal to his subordinates, his country, but most of all he kept his faith and was loyal to himself. America owes a bit of gratitude to him that cannot and will not ever be repaid. No serviceman or servicewoman from any country should ever be treated and abused in the manner in which the North Vietnamese endured on our troops. God Bless You sir...God loves you.
A true american hero who served with honor. God bless you and you faimly, bob schrepfer
A true American Hero.

Anyone who has lived so long should be valued. Anyone who has sacrificed himself in service to keep others safe should be appreciated. I am sure that Admiral Denton, a Vietnam Veteran, looked forward to the time when "Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4) Remembering Jeremiah Denton, Jr., with great admiration and unyielding respect!
