For Joe...who produced epic
cartoons such as Tom & Jerry
etc. You made an important
contribution to the entertainment
of children.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I have always shared a connection with Hanna-Barbera by virtue of having the same last name as Joseph. As I told every kid in the fourth grade; "Yes, I am related to Hanna-Barbera"

I was sorry to learn about Joe passing away. My grandfather, Vincent Badalamente was a barber in Joe's father's barber shop. My father, Steve Badalamente, only a child himself at the time, used to push Joe in his stroller. My dad passed away in June of 2006. He was 100.

What a great guy. Even though I didn't know him personally, he always made me laugh with his work.
My sympathy goes to his family.

This is Jane Meredith Allen Johsnon, Gale Tetreault's sister, and Madeline Allen's daughter. Our father Richard Allen walked Dorothy down the aisle to marry Joe since her dad was in a wheelchair. I remember meeting Nancy Sinatra who was one of my cousin's friends...either Jayne or Lynn....I can't quite remember back to 4th grade. I would love to hear from Dorothy if she remembers us at all. So sorry that Joe is gone.

thanks for the cartoons and the many many years of laughter
January 08, 2007
My sister Jane Meredith Johnson (Allen) and I have fond memories of Hanna-Barbera's many works. When we lived in Santa Barbera, California, our mom, Madeline Allen, took us to visit "Uncle Joe" as she called him. Dorothy Earl was our cousin; our dad's, Richard (Dick)Allen's neice. We were 10 and 12 then and we remember playing ring-toss in the backyard with Joe. I just bought his book "My Life in Toons" What a wonderful story. Before our mom, Madeline, passed away in 1993, we had the opportunity to take her to an art gallery in Arlington, VA where Joe was signing the cartoon cells. He couldn't belive his eyes when he saw her walk in.......it had been many, many years. My eldest daughter, Laurie, bought a cell that night entitled "Pebble and Bam-Bam's Fisrt Kiss". It hangs in a special place in her home. Our thoughts and prayers are sent to the Barbera family. Our love to you all, Gale and Jane (Allen)

I live in Edinburgh, and I know the cartoons were a big hit here in the UK. I couldn't wait for the Saturday shows to come on! Joe was a legacy in himself and I have come to fully appreciate the power of animation. Thanks for all the fun times, Hanna and Barbera, I salute you.
December 30, 2006
Joe Baebra lived a long and productive life. The 7 Oscars he and Bill Hanna won for the original Tom and Jerry cartoons are unprecedented. Then they proved that TV cartoons could work. And during the 30+ years of the Hanna-Barbera studios,it did work.Their early cartoons could be enjoyed by parentsd and children.Barbera was quoted as saying,"We didn't deliberately write over kids' heads, but we didn't talk down to them either."
December 23, 2006

December 23, 2006
Worked with Benny Barbera (Barney) in 1960, who, at that time, was a Long Island resident. I was told that Benny was Joe Barbera’s brother. And that Ben, as a youngster, was nicknamed Barney by his grandmother. His brother, Joe, wove that nickname into Flintstone’s fictional character Barney Rubble. Humor certainly was a Barbera trait .. Joe Barbera, on the larger scale, certainly had a great sense of humor entertaining large TV audiences. Ben, on the other hand, would always be in good humor and just had the magic to make anyone in his company laugh. May God smile on you, Joe, as he welcomes you into your heavenly home.
December 23, 2006
The smiles you"ll continue to inspire assures your legacy.

December 22, 2006
I don't have many good memories of my childhood, but the good ones are connected with you. I remember eagerly anticipating Friday nights at 6:30 for the Flintstones to air. How thrilling when Pebbles was born and Bamm-bamm was adopted. I wanted a Pebbles doll and I remember watching the hour long Flinstones Christmas special when Santa sprained his ankle with my own toddler. Later on my daughter gave me that video for Christmas and I still have it. In fact when our vcr died, I insisted on having a dvd/vcr unit so I could still watch that video!!! The joy you brought to countless children and adults will always live on.
December 22, 2006
Dear Joe,
thank you for the laughs with all of your cartoons. Your cartoons will live on in our hearts and will always be watched in the future. To the Barbera family, my condolences to you.

My sympathies go out to the family of such a talented man who gave all of us such joy and good memories by creating great cartoon characters that we can all remember with fondness.
December 22, 2006
Wow, the days I used to relish in the TV. screen watching The Flintstones. Then dashing into the Future with The Jetsons. Then when I saw The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones that was the Cooliest show. Yogi Bear, BooBoo, Huckleberry Hound. It was a delight to see his works. I still enjoy them even now. And I'm 60 years old. Rest in Peace Sir. Allways.
December 22, 2006
Like most other people, I very much enjoyed watching all of the wonderful cartoons (Tomy & Jerry, Flinstones, etc.) Then when my son was just a toddler, he not only continued the next generation to carry on the viewing, but he learned to read by watching the programs. He'd read out loud all of the credits, especially the William Hanna - Joe Barbera part of it!
God Bless you, sir.
December 22, 2006
My childhood was made so much the richer for having your imagination in this world. Thank you for the good times. Godspeed.
December 22, 2006
Thank you so much for the memories you gave me. I started out on the Tom and Jerry cartoons. The cartoons you helped created kept a lonely girl occupied. I have enjoyed this program since I was in High School and am still loving it to this day.Until we meet again, I send my condolences.

Thanks for all the fun cartoons and stories that I grew with in the 50's and 60's. Growing up with the Flinstones and the Jetsons. It is a funny thing, because in my daily life at work, I work with two computers that I call the old one Fred (Flinstone) and the new one George (Jetson). My thoughts and prayers are with your friends, family and fans. Rest in peace.
December 19, 2006
Mr.Barbera you were such an inspiration to me. I'm an aspiring animator and have been drawing for years and grew up on you and Bill's cartoons. Although nearly all of them were before my time, thanks to the magic of reruns and syndication I had the opportunity to grow up watching many of them. They all influenced some of my creations as well. I really hoped that one day I could have met you. I'm sure i could have learned a lot more from you about animation. Thank you so very much for all that you and Bill have done. I'm sure that you've found each other and are having fun again. You will be forever remembered. God bless you and your family and friends. You were truly a legend.
December 19, 2006
Joe,
top cat was so funny that my stomach hurt from laughing so much.
Thank you for the good memories.
December 19, 2006
Any American who has ever watched TV or been to the movies or even eaten cereal in the last 50 years has been exposed to a Hanna-Barbera creation.

As a teen, growing up in the early days of Cartoon Network, it only showcased cartoons from the HB library and the Looney tunes vault.

Your influence even launched Boomerang, a TV Land type channel which airs mostly your cartoons.

You have made Saturday Morning Television worth watching. And we thank you for 95 great years and all those characters. We'll see ya up the line....
December 19, 2006
Thanks Mr. Barbera, for all the happy times in front of the tv. as a child of the 60's. May you rest in peace.
December 19, 2006
I am sorry for the loss of a great talent, and I know you are up there drawing and enjoying your talent.

May God speed his Love to Your Family at this time, and may I always remember the joy your taught me as a youth, by watching and sitting in front of our black and white and then our color TV. You made laughter really great. I enjoy each day as I think og the stories and ideas that were brought to me from the Flintstones to the modern world of the Jetsons..

God Gless your gift... for All

Thank you
Joe W (SLC,UT)

Born in 1952, I have enjoyed this witty man's fun for as long as I can remember! Tom and Jerry have always been my favorite characters, and I now enjoy them through the eyes of my grandkids. I also remember the excitement of a night-time cartoon when "The Flintstones" began.

It's an odd concept to realize how much enjoyment a person can bring to millions whom they don't know--and how that enjoyment can last long after they've left.

Thank you for many hours of fun, Mr. Barbera!
December 19, 2006
I ENJOY ALL OF YOUR WORK WHEN I WAS A CHILD AND WHEN I GREW UP THANKS MUCH FOR YOUR TALENT.

As a Cuban regugee kid coming here in the mid 60s, my sister and I grew up watching all of these cartoons especially the Flintstones. They were basically my main window into learning about what America was all about. As teens we were Scooby Doo freaks. An amazing man has left us; hope the cartoon characters are all waiting for him upstairs.
December 19, 2006

December 19, 2006
I can not repay all the joy and happiness that was brought into my childhood life by watching the cartoons of the Hanna-Barbera era!
When I moved to a new area - I insisted that I have the Boomerang channel - just so I can re-live my childhood all over again...
All the laughter is still there!
Growing up in the TX heat and being teased constantly by my peers was hard to bare - but knowing that once I was able to get to the television set to watch my favorite programs made all the ridicule I endured worth while.
Rest in peace Mr. Barbera your work is finished..
I pray that the Lord will comfort your family in this time of bereavement..

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
