I got the chance to meet Joey Bishop when he was with the Harmonica Rascals and appearing at the Playboy Resort & Country Club Great Gorge, NJ. That would have been in the early 1980s when I worked there as the Playmate Restaurant manager. Mr. Bishop would come into the restaurant, often alone, to enjoy a quiet meal. I made sure the staff didn't bother him and he was quite a gentleman. His legacy will live on.

To the Family,
All the wonderful memories Joey made and left for all to cherish. May the family find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "He will actually swallow up death forever, and the Almighty will certainly wipe the tears from all faces...."
December 18, 2010
It is sad to have lost another 'good guy'.

To the family: May the comfort from family and friends continue to strengthen you, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

(reprint)

For Joey...the stone-faced comedian who found success in nightclubs, television and movies but became most famous as a member of Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I never met Joey Bishop, I did see him on TV in Movies and once when I went to the Johnny Carson show in NY. I saw him in person. At this time Joey Bishop was a guest host. I remember a little about his monologue.. It was about Good News he was talking about the News and that it was always Bad News. Well now that he has passed, as it is Sad News the Good News is that he is in Heaven and God will be welcoming him and now he can share all the Good News that he has brought to the world here on earth as well as in Heaven. God Bless you Joey and thank you for the many years of Good News you have left.

A great loss with the demise of Joey Bishop, and the final curtain being lowered once and for all for the famed Rat Pack. My tribute to Joey was a letter published in the O.C. Register on 10/21/07 depicting a great man. Living in Newport Beach, I once rode my bike past his house just to say that I did.
October 23, 2007
I was deeply saddened upon hearing the news of Mr. Bishop's passing. It was almost like losing a family member, as my father looked so much like Mr. Bishop. So much so that people would actually come up to my Dad thinking me WAS Joey Bishop. I hope they meet in Heaven.

Rest In Peace, Joey Bishop. Thanks for the laughs.

As a huge fan of the Rat Pack. We will miss your dad and grandad.

October 19, 2007
Joey Bishop was always my favorite of the Rat Pack....I loved the Joey Bishop show and tried to never miss an episode....his dry sense of humor was priceless....he will be missed....
October 19, 2007
I truely enjoyed you and the others who formed "The Rat Pack" ... both in song and comedy. While most of my friends in school thought that I was "too squared" to listen to you (I was born in 1955), watching you on television and listening to you on radio is what I call "true entertainment" ... something that is mostly missing from television and radio today. I hope that some television and radio stations will continue to play your hits ... as there are not that many "Clean-Cut" and "Slap-Stick" entertainers out their any more. Thanks for making me, my mother (born in 1932) and my grandmother (1906) laugh for all of these years.
October 19, 2007
The Rat Pack is now reunited in Heaven. What a great party that's going to be!! Even though I was a big fan of Johnny Carson, I would tune in to Joey's late night show on occasion. You will truly be missed Joey.
October 19, 2007
I can't put into words how I'm feeling about the loss of Joey.
My wife & I will continue trying to get him a star on the walk of fame. We stopped at Joey's house last March & he invited us in. He couldn't have been kinder. We will never forget that!!!
October 19, 2007
To the Bishop Family: Growing up in the 60's, it was a special and rare privilege to be allowed to stay up for his talk show and laugh with the grownups. Other nights my parents would wake us up with their laughter watching him, and the jokes would be repeated the next night at dinner. South Philly always considered him one of their gifts to the world. May the joy Joey brought my family flow as comfort to yours. Sonofagun!
October 19, 2007
He bought me a little blue outfit when I was born in Las Vegas in 1955. I guess he knew my dad, who play in a band. Thanks Joey and enjoy the music.
October 19, 2007
The Joey Bishop show now has a higher calling. Thanks for everything!
October 19, 2007
Your fans are going to miss you. I know I will.

You are back with the RAT Pack!!! Get the party going. I really thought the world of you guy's and gal's when I was growing-up in the sixties. Thanks for the great ride.
October 19, 2007
Joey, here's another fan of your 60s sitcom, where you were paired with real pros. Found a website a bit back filled with TV themes, and putting yours on a CD adds a bit of extra joy while driving around. Thanks, and God Bless.
October 19, 2007
We love you, Joey! We'll never forget you!
October 19, 2007

October 19, 2007
Though I was born after the Rat Pack's heyday, I have always been fascinated by the men and friendships in the group. Joey was a great talent in exactly the right place for his talent to be showcased. His passing ends an era.
October 19, 2007
My Condolences to the family of this great entertainer. He was one of a kind. I am sure that wherever he is, somebody is cracking their sides.
October 19, 2007
My parents were attending a convention in Vegas in the Sixties and one evening, caught the Rat Pack at the Sands. After the show, they slipped into the coffee shop around 2AM. There, they noticed a quiet, solitary figure in the next booth. It was Joey Bishop. They had a nice conversation with this very gracious man. Rest well, Joey. God has gained a great entertainer.
October 19, 2007
In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

October 19, 2007
Perhaps the most quiet of the Rat-Packers...he was my fav. Thanks for what you gave the entertainment world!

October 19, 2007
Wow, what does one say when a star like Joey Bishop dies. As a kid I was inspired by you and all the members of the well known "Rat Pack." As an adult, I saw them for what they were...fun, exciting and genuine. I don't think Las Vegas or America will ever be the same with you and the Pack gone. You're all just fond memories now. Joey Bishop, find peace in Heaven for now I know you've been reunited with all your friends, they were in need of you, the last one.
God speed on your journey to a place where the stars never fade away.
October 19, 2007
Farewell Joey, you have brought much joy and laughter to all of us. My favorite Joey Bishop memory is in the movie "Texas Across the River". Dean and Joey (who played a Native American) were fending off a band of Comanches and Dean thinking that some kind of an advantage could be gain if Joey's character was a Comanche, ask him 'Why were'nt you born a Comanche?' To which Joey replied in his typical 'dead pan' response "My mother ran too fast." I laughed so hard, I was having trouble catching my breath.

Thank you Joey for all those moments.
October 19, 2007
Great memories from Jersey, RIP Joey.

I really thought Joey was a wonderful talent. I loved his TV show with abby Dalton. My sympathies,
October 18, 2007
I remember in the early 1990s writing to Mr. Bishop about being inspired by his comedic work. He sent me a letter back asking for my phone number to offer some words of wisdom. Underneath his humor was a serious and deeply caring man who gave me wonderful advice about the human condition and the natural "suffering" we do at points in our lives. I will remember that event for the rest of my life and I pray that he will find peace forever on the other side. Thinking of you, Mr. Bishop.
October 18, 2007
There's gonna be a party in heaven tonight now that Joey's arrived to join the rest of the Pack. Unfortunately for those of us here on Earth, Joey will be dearly missed. God bless his family at this difficult time.

Joey,

I'll always remember the look on your face in the final scene of the original "Oceans 11" - when you eleven guys learn that the stolen casino loot got cremated. What a perfect ending.

Rest in peace up there with the rest of the guys.

Joey, thanks for many wonderful memories. You were a class act whose performances gave my mother and me a lot of innocent fun and pleasure.
Your son is in my prayers.

Joey was a cousin through marraige. I had the privilege of meeting him in 1980 when he was at Bally's in Atlantic City with "A tribute to Vaudeville", featuring Tessie O'Shea, Jackie Mason, Pierre DuPont and Sparky, The Harmonica Rascals and my very dear friend, the late Alan Jones. The meeting served as a reunion, too, as my Mother and Joey, who were friendly in their youth in South Philadelphia, got to see one another after many, many years.

I am saddened by his passing and wish his Family well in this time of sorrow.
October 18, 2007

While working a tele-sales gig in Salt Lake City 1999, I had the good fortune to take a call from Mr. Bishop. His wife was ill and thought one of the products my company sold could help alleviate her suffering. We discussed his time with the "Rat Pack" and told him how my mother and father were both big fans. He sent them a signed photo of himself along with the rest of the pack in front of the Las Vegas Sands Hotel. I will always remember his generosity and his gentle nature. Rest in peace, maestro.
October 18, 2007
Joey -- I didn't know you, nor any of the Rat Pack -- but I love you and the whole group, anyway! Thanks for your lasting mark -- as long as we remember, it won't fade.

Say hello to my aunt, would you? She died at 81 earlier this year. I know she adored you and the whole gang!

Here's to hoping there's more, and that the Rat Pack is living it up there right now, re-united again.
October 18, 2007
Father we entrust our brother Joey to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Joey in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

Always enjoyed you Joey, "You were the Best".
October 18, 2007

Tonight I will sadly pull out my old Rat Pack recordings, have one martini (I think Dino, Sammy, Peter, and the Chairman would approve), and mourn the passing of an era. These people were legends and consumate professionals in every sense of the word. We will never see thier likes again.
